Church organist, pianist and composer before his teens, a holder of degrees in music and philosophy, Rodolfo Cornejo was a man of rare genius, says violinist Gina Medina, yet has slipped into near obscurity. The Filipino String Teachers Association brings his name and music to new ears with an album of chamber works, center of which is a jewel of his output, the Violin Sonata. This MAESTRO FILIPINO with Tiffany (Sat 1200, Sun 2400, Thu 2000), hear that work in its entirety, plus a conversation with Gina Medina (FSTA president and co-founder) and the sons of Dr Rodolfo Cornejo, Rod and Redentor.

If I weren't mistaken, our choir did a concert with him in Vancouver and sang one of his compositions around 1989- 1990 ! In that concert , he brought a violin player from Washington State and played Dr Cornejo's Violin Composition, and it was a great work ! At that same concert, he did something that amazed the audience including myself ! He asked someone from the audience to give him 4, 5, 6 notes and played them while he was at the piano !
Then, with those notes, he
played them as the theme of whatever he was thinking, improvising of whatever type of Music he did ! That was an amazing gift he showed us that night ! I might have heard from someone that he played around Seattle, Washington in restaurants and shown that kind of talent ! I felt so proud as a Filipino that night,
