Patch 4.3 Epic Gems From Alchemist Transmutes & Cut By Jewelcrafters

Patch 4.3 News on Epic Gems

Hooray!  More news released on Epic Gems in Patch 4.3  We now have data-mined information from the Public Test Realm (PTR) for Patch 4.3.  Check out the complete coverage of Patch 4.3 items, maps, gems, recipes and more over at Wowhead.

Disclaimer:  PTR data-mined information is subject to change

Epic Gems Will Be Crafted By Alchemists

Although Pyrite Ore will not provide Epic Gems from Prospecting, Epic Gems will be able to be crafted by using Alchemy Transmutes.  This is good news as raid drops will not be the sole source of Epic Gems in WoW Patch 4.3.  Alchemists will be able to get 6 new recipes in Patch 4.3 and those recipes will be for Transmuting the Epic Gems.  The current data-mined Alchemy recipes do not show what materials will be required for the Epic Gem transmutes, but at least we know raid bosses will not be the only source of Epic Gems.  I'm going to assume that the Alchemy Transmutes will share the cooldown with all the current Alchemy Transmutations.  And you can bet that the Epic Gems transmutes will require multiples of Cataclysm Herbs and Cataclysm Rare Gems.

Epic Gems and Their Transmutes

Red Epic Gems:  Queen's Garnet  -  Transmute: Queen's Garnet
Blue Epic Gems:  Deepholme Iolite  -  Transmute: Deepholme Iolite
Yellow Epic Gems:  Lightstone  -  Transmute: Lightstone
Purple Epic Gems:  Shadow Spinel  -  Transmute: Shadow Spinel
Green Epic Gems:  Elven Peridot  -  Transmute: Elven Peridot
Orange Epic Gems:  Lava Coral  -  Transmute: Lava Coral
Note:  No Prismatic Gem Found Yet

Epic Gems Will Be Cut By Jewelcrafters

Jewelcrafters will again be able to cut raw Epic Gems into their cut versions, which is great news for those of us that make a lot of gold with our Jewelcrafters.  There doesn't appear to be a new source of currency, so we can assume that the current JC Daily tokens will be required to purchase the new Epic Gem Recipes or a new item that awards Epic Gem Recipes.

Tome Of Burning Jewels

There is an item listed in the data-mined information called the Tome Of Burning Jewels.  The Tome Of Burning Jewels is a Bind-On-Pickup item that could be a raid boss drop, or a vendor purchased item.  I doubt it is a world drop since it is soulbound.  Since it is soulbound, there is no way to sell these Tomes to other JCs.  So it is NOT a Jewelcrafting equivalent of the Book of Glyph Mastery.  Is it possible that Jewelcrafters can only purchase the Tome of Burning Jewels with their JC Tokens?  Will Jewelcrafters only be able to learn their Epic Gem recipes at random choices, instead of picking which Epic Gem Cuts to get first?  Wouldn't that make for some crazy random distribution of Epic Gem cuts where your profits or market control will be based off of the random number generator?  My bet is that the Epic Gem Recipes will be added to the near empty JC vendor out in the Twilight Highlands.

So with the current Patch 4.3 PTR data-mined information we can see gold making options will be available for Epic Gems.  So keep saving up those JC tokens and start looking for a variety of Cataclysm Herbs to pair up with rare gems to start Transmuting Epic Gems.

Transmogrification and Void Storage | Patch 4.3 WoW Gold Sinks

WoW Void Storage Coming
The Two New WoW Gold Sinks

In World of Warcraft Patch 4.3, we are getting two new features added to the game.  The new features being added in WoW Patch 4.3 are Transmogrification and a Void Storage Service.  Both of these new WoW features are gold sinks.  They are designed to help remove gold out of the economy to help combat the rising inflation of Cataclysm.  Easy gold making methods like the Obsidium Shuffle from earlier in the Cataclysm expansion have heavily contributed to the inflation we have seen.  Gold is worth less than ever thanks to the easy and common ways to make gold.  Lately though, it has been harder for many players to make gold.  The incredibly easy way to profit off of the botter farmed Ores has been crippled to where you must actually shuffle the ores instead of just vendoring gems.  Hopefully the addition of these two new gold sinks in Patch 4.3 will help to combat the rising inflation by removing some gold from the servers.

Void Storage Service

Void Storage is a new feature coming in Patch 4.3 of World of Warcraft.  Void Storage will cost a chunk of gold to unlock the service for use.  Once the Void Storage Service fee is paid to unlock the Void Storage option, you will have access to a new banking system.  This new Void Storage banking system will allow 80 slots worth of long term storage.  This Void Storage is intended for items that won't be used much by your character.  Holiday vanity items, old trophies or obsolete rewards, heirloom sets, and annual items are good choices for long term Void Storage.

Each item deposited will cost an amount of gold when placed into the Void Storage.  Once an item is placed in the Void Storage, there is no cost for it to remain there.  You must pay a nice chunk to unlock the Void Storage Service and a deposit fee for each item placed into the Void Storage and a withdrawal fee when an item is removed.  On top of those fees, any items placed into the Void Storage will lose all enhancements.  that means they will lose all gems, enchants, reforged stats, and sockets.  Sounds like some markets will get a slight stimulus from players losing enhancements on their gear that gets wiped once placed in Void Storage.  Please note that the prices are not set on any of the fees and images only have placeholder amounts at this time.

Transmogrification

The second gold sink being added to World of Warcraft in Patch 4.3 is Transmogrification.  Transmogrification gives the ability to pay gold to change the appearance of your player's weapons and armor.  While this means nothing to me, some players will be happy about this change.  They will gladly waste their gold changing their appearance around.  The Transmogrification gold sink will also help to drain gold out of the economy.  Will transmogrification be profitable?

Patch 4.2 Engineering Love

Datamined Info For Engineers

As many of you already know Engineering is my most favorite profession within World of Warcraft.  Colddrawn, my main, is a miner engineer, which allows me to benefit from the Electrostatic Condensor bonus for Volatile Airs from mining nodes.  Overall, being an engineer hasn't seen a great many ways to profit in Cataclysm outside of companion pets (yet again).

Currently we Engineers have very limited uses for Chaos Orbs.  A couple mediocre ranged weapons and our nice Engineering only Killshades are the only recipes for Engineers that require the Chaos Orbs.  Even with the limited uses, I have continued to roll "Need" in heroic dungeons as I was hoping that Chaos Orbs would a) be required for future added Engineering recipes or b) become un-soulbound and be able to be sold or transfered to my other crafters.  Well my looking ahead, or sheer greediness whichever you want to call it, is going to pay off in Patch 4.2.

New Engineer Crafted Weapons and Scopes

In Patch 4.2, Engineers will have another item to craft with the Chaos Orbs that we have been stockpiling.  The following items have been datamined from the PTR data.  We will be getting a new gun recipe and a couple of new scopes.

New Gun
Extreme-Impact Hole Puncher BoE Engineering crafted ilvl 365 Gun - Recipe binds on pick-up.  this gun takes 5 Chaos Orbs to craft.  Where the recipe will come from is still being speculated on as there is no concrete evidence yet of it's origin.

Extreme-Impact Hole Puncher

New Scopes
Flintlocke's Woodchucker Recipe binds on pick-up.
Squirrel Sights - item data-mined, but not implemented yet.

Flintlocke's Woodchucker Scope

WarcraftEcon has an excellent write up covering a lot more of the new craftable weapons and gear coming in Patch 4.2.  Check out the post on Patch 4.2 Firelands Preparation.  Keep your eyes peeled at the Warcraft Econ Hall of Fame as my entry should be going live sometime soon.  It's already included in the list of coming soon Hall of Fame posts for 500k.  So keep your eye out for when it goes live.

Undocumented Enchanting Changes In Patch 4.1

Balancing Twink Battlegrounds

Many of these undocumented changes will be effecting twinks characters and PvP battlegrounds, so if you are a supplier of twink items and enchants, then this is very useful information to know.

This information is taken from this Patch 4.1 Undocumented Changes source over at Twinkinfo.com.  These changes have been tested and noted by players on the PTR.  Twinkinfo.com is a reliable and trusted source and is a must read for anyone looking to get into twinking of lower level characters.  Hopefully these changes will encourage more players to try out twinking for lower levels.

Changes To Enchanting

Enchants that previously required only an item level of 35 or higher, will now require a character level of 25 also.  So Burning Crusade enchants will no longer be allowed on level 1-24 items.  This makes twinking with items like the Formal Dangui or Haliscon Jacket impossible.  Players used to be able to add the +35 Resilience enchant onto these items.  Imagine an extra 35 resilience in a lvl 10 battleground. Not anymore.

The level 60 enchants from Wrath of the Lich King will now require character level 50 to use.  This prevents level 49 characters from using Wrath enchants.

The Mana per 5 seconds enchants will become +Spirit enchants.

The Health per 5 seconds enchants will become +Stamina enchants.

What does this mean for us?

If you are on a server with high twink activity, you are going to be able to sell some new enchants once Patch 4.1 comes.  Players with twinks that had previously been able to use these Grandfathered enchants will now be looking to replace their enchants with the next best available enchant.

So once Patch 4.1 comes, you should see a slight spike in +4 Stats to Chest (originally said +4 sta, lol - thanks for catching the type) and any other top of the line replacement enchants.

Obsidium Ore Prospecting Crash Coming - MAYBE

Epic Gem Cooldown Removal?

The Data-Mined Cata Gems Vendor Price Change

So MMO-Champion has posted some data-mined information that shows a massive change to the vendor price of cut uncommon quality Cataclysm gems on the current PTR (Public Test Realm) build.

Jewelcrafting

•Bold Carnelian, Solid Zephyrite, Subtle Alicite, Perfect Quick Alicite, Sovereign Nightstone, Regal Jasper, Resolute Hessonite, and any cut of uncommon gem now sells to NPC for 75 silver instead of 9 gold.
Oh Fudge!  If you are like most players and sadly most bloggers, then the sky will be falling soon.  The gem vendor prices will be crashing, the obsidium shuffle will be dead, and all sorts of secondary markets will see major demand and supply changes.  Prospest and Sell all of your ore now before you get stuck with it.  Get out!  Unload your gems, unload your ores, get out from under the obsidium shuffle before it falls on you and leaves you with a major loss of profits.  Get out while you can!

Wait - Stop - Rewind....

Remember the Alchemy epic gem transmute cooldown removal fiasco from last expansion?  Remember when Just My Two Copper bought into the hype and cost a lot of Markco's lemmings a ton of gold from stockpiling for something that wasn't even real?  There was no epic gem cooldown removal, it was just changed to the midnight reset timer that is currently in use.  This may be the exact same type of issue.  I am here to tell you DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE UNTIL ITS PROVEN TRUE.  Just ask Markco and all the other bloggers who told you to stockpile for the epic cooldown removal.

What We Know
  • Data-mined information isn't always correct.
  • Data-mined information doesn't always go to the live servers.
  • Data-mined information can change before being added to the patch notes.
  • Data-mined information cannot in any way be fully trusted.
  • The gem vendor price change is NOT in the patch notes.
  • There have been no blue posts about a change.
  • Blizzard would not "stealth change" something this big.
  • If true, it will be added to the official patch notes.
  • And even better:  The price of the uncut uncommon gems is 5 gold when vendored on the PTR.
Just more proof that something is mucked up.  The uncut gem sells for 5 gold, but the cut version sells for 75 silver.  If this isn't a huge red-flag, I don't know what else to show you.

Recommendations

The sky is not falling.  The markets aren't for sure going to be crashing.  These changes are not official.  Now it is possible that the price to cut and / or uncut gems will be lowered, but let's wait until it is official before we started to go to extremes.  One of the 2 prices (uncut and cut) is obviously wrong, so let's wait it out.  Something this big will be added to the patch notes.  Why not wait until it is official before believing all this hype about crashing market?  I'm not saying this is completely innaccurate and it could go to the live WoW servers, but be careful in what you follow until its official.  If we learned anything from the epic gem cooldown fiasco it is to only believe blue posts and patch notes as all it takes is one site promoting something to get a snowball rolling that may not even be true.   So don't be a little JMTC lemming.  Learn to think and analyze situations for yourself.

Call To Arms Dungeon Finder | Satchel of Exotic Mysteries

Dungeon Finder: Call to Arms
Call To Arms

Blizzard has recently released information on a new feature coming to the World of Warcraft game.  The new dungeon finder feature Call to Arms will be implemented as part of WoW's Patch 4.1.  You can read the official write-up from the Blizzard site here.

This new Call to Arms upgrade to the dungeon finder is designed to help shorten queue times for random heroics.  Currently DPS characters have the longest wait times, so Blizzard has come up with the Call to Arms feature as a way to bribe tanks and healers to run random heroic dungeons.

When the queue wait times are backed up, whatever role (tank, healer, dps) is in demand, will be Called to Arms.  If that role is Called to Arms, then anyone that queues for a random heroic dungeon that can fill that role will be awarded a bonus, the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries, once the final heroic dungeon boss is killed.

Satchel of Exotic Mysteries

The Satchel of Exotic Mysteries is a nice bribe for those of us with tanks and healers to join the random dungeon finder for heroics when needed.  Having a tank as my main means this will be great for me.  I probably will be not joining any random heroics until tanks are receive the Call to Arms.  Why?  It's because tanks are always the instant queue role due to shortages on my server.  So once Call to Arms comes in Patch 4.1, I will be waiting on my call to enter the heroic dungeons as a tank and get my Satchel of Exotic Mysteries.  The Satchel is also going to be Bind on Account, so you can trade it to your alternate WoW characters once you receive it.  You can also receive the Satchel of Exotic Goods more than once per day as there is no limit as long as you join the queue while your role is Called to Arms.

Satchel of Exotic Mysteries Contents

  • Gold
  • A Chance at a Rare Gem
  • A Chance at a Flask or Elixir
  • A Good Chance at a Companion Pet (Includes cross faction pets and reputation awarded pets)
  • A Very Rare Chance at a Rare Mount (Only mounts from dungeons [not raids] and odds are the same drop rate as from the original boss source)
The rare mounts include things like:

  • Reins of the Ravenlord from Setthek Halls
  • Swift White Hawkstrider from Magister's Terrace
  • Deathcharger's Reins from Stratholme
So for those of us that are mount collectors, this offers yet another way to obtain those rare mounts and pets that we all long for.  I myself think this is a great addition to the game, but hey my main is a tank so its awesome for me.

Will this new incentive help to shorten the queue times?  Do you think more people will try out tanking and healing roles now?

Glyph Changes in Patch 4.1

Patch Changes

Patch 4.1 will be adding all new dungeons, pets, mounts, and all sorts of goodies, but there are a few changes within the Glyph system that a Scribe shouldn't overlook.  Some glyphs are being buffed, others are being changed, and yet again a new glyph is being added.  Be sure to stay ahead of the changes so you can save gold as well as profit off any of the new changes.  An informed scribe is a profitable scribe.  Many times its only the first day or two that you will have an opportunity to gouge the pricing on seemingly new glyphs that appear after a major patch.  Be sure to always read the patch notes so you won't end up with a list of glyphs you don't know yet, when you used to know them all.

Patch 4.1 Affected Glyphs

Glyph of Frost Armor - This is a new glyph being introduced into World of Warcraft with Patch 4.1.  It will allow Frost Armor to also regenerate mana.  It is a Major Glyph and will most likely be learned from either Northrend Research or from a Book of Glyph Mastery.  If it is the latter, then it would be a great time to unload some of the Books of Glyph Mastery as the demand spikes.  EDIT:  It's officially learned from Northrend Inscription Research.

Glyph Of Raise Ally - This glyph is being changed into the Glyph of Death Gate.  Raise Ally is being changed to be a battle rez.  Within the first few days you should be able to sell a few of the new Glyph of Death Gate.  Might be worth snagging a few of the Raise Ally Glyphs if you can find them for cheap.

Glyph of Rake - The Glyph of Rake will be gone and will be changed into Glyph of Pounce.  I'm assuming that Pounce will be a better seller than Rake.

Glyph of Mend Pet - The happiness and pet loyalty system is being completely removed from the game.  The Glyph of Mend Pet was an awesome seller and a must have for most specs of hunters.  Expect to see a spike in sales of Minor Hunter Glyphs as players will be replacing this glyph as the Glyph of Greater Proportion it changes to is pretty useless.  It will slightly increase the size of the Hunter's pet.

Glyph of Divine Accuracy - Is getting a buff as it will also effect Holy Fire as well.  I doubt this change will lead to more sales.

Glyph of Spell Reflect - Is also getting a buff as it will now lower the cooldown by 5 seconds instead of the current 1 second.  Might lead to a slight increase in use.

What will be the next Glyph of Mage Armor?

Remember the Glyph of Mage Armor fiasco?  It may be a good idea to have a few of the glyphs that are getting changed pre-crafted and ready to sell.  It could turn out that something goes wrong in the Patch 4.1 and leaves us without a way to craft a specific glyph.  It has happened before and some players were able to make a killing selling the Glyph that was bugged and unable to be crafted at all.  Hope this guide to the new Patch 4.1 Glyph changes was of some help for getting you thinking of planning ahead.

Importance of Patch Notes

Always read your patch notes and preferably know them, analyze them, and predict spikes in demand before the patch even goes live. Since the Ruby Sanctum Raid has went live on US servers, certain craftables should see an increase in sales and demand. Knowing your patch notes and what items are dropped by the new raid bosses, will help you to gain maximum profits.
Example: Halion drops Waist pieces. What does this mean? You can bet your ass that Belt Buckles will sell well immediately following the release. My server sees sales of around 32-45g per. On Tuesday Night the normally flooded supply was whittled down to just a few buckles. So I sold all mine for 75g a pop. Why? Preplanning, Forecasting, Understanding best times to get the most money. These are skills you practice and expound upon once you become a true AH player.

A New raid, with new boss drops USUALLY also means increased demand and raise in prices for: Enchants, Gems, Leg Armors, and other Item Enhancements, BUT look deeper into it. Halion drops NO Weapons and No Leg Slot Armor, so thinking you will get a spike in leg armor sales because of the new raid is just wrong. No Weapon drops means no big rush on high end weapon enchants. You should be focusing extra resources into enchants and item consumables that will go on the new drops, like belt buckles and enchants for what items are dropped.

Mainly Tank, DPS, and Heal chants for Feet.
Spellpower and Agi based DPS Chants for wrists.
Leather Caster Hand Chants.
Belt Buckles.

Then throw in factors like increased population online after a new patch and sales in others areas can explode as well, simply from more people being on this week looking to run the new raid. Now is the time to make a lot of profit while you can and unload some things that have been dropping in price, like Gems. Gem Prices have skyrocketted back up with the player population spike as well as the Raid items dropping with empty sockets.

All in all, read you patch notes, plan ahead, use your brain, and then enjoy the sound of that gold hitting your packs.

Happy Posting!
