To be the President of the Samahang Pisika ng Pilipinas (Physics Society of the Philippines, spp-online.org) in 2025 was an honor. SPP is the professional organization of physicists and physics educators in the Philippines. It puts me in a lot of responsibility as a role model for physicists and most especially of physicists in training in the country.
What better way to start blogging than by sharing one of my biggest responsibilities from recent years? This was my welcome message, followed by another welcome message for the handbook.

*Conference Welcome Address*
Welcome to the 2025 Annual Conference of the Samahang Pisika ng Pilipinas at the National Institute of Physics, University of the Philippines Diliman!
The Samahan celebrates two occasions – the United Nations’ observance of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, and the retirement of Professor Caesar Saloma, one of our first SPP Fellows.
My first SPP presentation was at the Ateneo de Manila University way back in 1998, 27 years ago. 2 years after that, I became a junior councilor. In 2007, I was the Secretary- General. This year, I head the SPP at its 43rd Physics Conference. Over those 27 years, I missed only 6 SPP conferences, once when I was in wedding preparation mode, and the rest while I was abroad pursuing a postdoc. But I am always with SPP as a Topical Editor. You can say, SPP and I are entangled.
