Happy Independance Day, ya'll!

Loooong weekend comin' up. *sighs relief* I sooooo need the break. Not that it'll actually BE a break since I've got Sis1 and her crew all coming to stay with me tomorrow night. (The whooooole family. Even the dog! Yikes!) Tomorrow is Daddy's birthday and he's taken the notion that he wants to take Mama out on a date just the two of them. I swear, sometimes I think the further past 50 he travels the more he regresses to a teenager. It'd be sweet and romantic if it weren't so gross. lol But yeah. I inherited the sis and her family. I don't mind it, though. Well, right NOW I don't mind it. When I get kicked out of my bed and BIL starts complaining about the tepid shower he'll inevitably take because my hot water heater isn't designed for 30 minute showers...THEN I'll mind it. hehehe BUT, he's said he'd treat us all to supper tomorrow night so I guess I'll hafta suck it up and NOT get aggitated when he claims he picked up some so...

Can You Keep a Secret?

I have a crush. Just a tiny one. Not even hardly anything to mention. But it's there. And no, it isn't some silly celebrity crush. He's a real honest-to-goodness boy (man?) next door (not literally next door , but... *goofy grin*) and I get the warm and fuzzies when he talks to me, stands near me, smiles at me, etc. It's nice to have a crush again. I was beginning to wonder if something was wrong with me. Yeah, I've seen some hotties and commented and there was a couple of people I thought were interesting but as for a sweet little crush, yeah. It's been a while. So ignore me while I sit over here and think silly thoughts about him and wonder if he's thinking of me, too. And no. He doesn't need to know. And no, Trix, it ain't the preacher. hehehehehe *silly goofy grinning sigh*

News and stuff

Well, I managed to get home yesterday. Yay! hehe Apparently, what they were doing to the road as layering with cement, tar and dirt. Building it up in preparation of paving it. So, I've still got to watch out for the actual PAVING of the stupid thing. So what does Jana do? She plays boy scout and packs a bag with neccesities so that she'll always be prepared. hehehehehe I no wanna get stuck with no undies or shampoo again. Or make-up, either. Not that I'm a heavy on the make-up kinda gal but I've been told that without the basic eye make-up I look like a zombie so there ya go. Yesterday I got to play zombie. Which leads me to my next topic. Wouldn't you know that the one day out of however many that I'm wearing zero make-up and my hair's seen better days is when I run into a really great guy who I was friends with in college? *sigh* No, no romantical feelings but he's sorta cute and I haven't seen him since graduation five years ago and he's actu...

New Underwear

Yep. That's what I had to buy yesterday when I went to go home and discovered that I could not GET TO MY HOUSE!! Grrrr... You know, I'd been away from home for like four days while I dogsat for my grandparents. (more on that later) So I was really looking forward to, you know, sleepin' in my own bed, eatin' my own food and heck, just being home. I'm all with Dorothy on the "no place like home" bit. Plus, it's hot. I'm exhausted after a full day's work AND a long weekend away from home caring for a dog who has more engergy in the tip of her tail than I've ever had in my whole body for as long as I've lived. I turn down my road, discover that "cool, they've scraped up that sunken portion of the pavement and are going to correct it" only to get to my end of the road and encounter a dude with a stop sign and lots of trucks. Dude motions me forward a bit and comes up to the car, asks me how I'm doing and then says, "Th...

A Moment of Silence, Please

I'm in mourning. Keith Urban is a married man now. *sobbing* It's so *sniff* not *sniff* fair. *sobs* Darn Nicole Kidman! I always knew I never liked her and her perfect skin.

You Don't Have to Like Me...

But could you try to at least respect me as a human being? It's rare that I come across a person who with just the thought of them my head aches, my spine stiffens and my whole body just becomes one big ball of tension. But it's happened. A couple times, actually. Well, one of those people came through this morning and Jana is spewing hateful things at him...in her mind. hehe I, unlike him, smiled and said hello and trief to be helpful. He, unlike me, snarled and scowled and basically pretended I didn't exist--until he needed something. And who should sit at my lunch table today? Him, of course. I sometimes curse the fact that I'm friends with somone who everybody knows. *sigh* Gosh, just the thought of his voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard. Yeah, he's an older man. Like, you know, older than God and he's cantankerous and rude and he thinks he's the most important person in the world. And yeah, I normally respect elders and the elderly and whatever ...

Oh, I wish...

Oh I wish I were an Oscar Meyer Wiener. That is what I'd truly like to be. Cuz if I were an Oscar Meyer Wiener, everyone would be in love with me. What? Did you think this was going to be one of those deep and meaningful posts where I went into great detail about what my heart longs for and how depressing it is when it seems like the very thing I want is the one thing that's out of my grasp? Nah! Not me! I would never get into such a deep subject. Today, anyway. ;-)

Women Who Read

You've probably seen this one on email a dozen times or more, but I still love it. One morning a husband returns after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap. Although not familiar with the lake, his wife decides to take the boat out. She motors out a short distance and reads her book. Along comes a Game Warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says, "Good morning, Ma'am. What are you doing?" "Reading a book," she replies, thinking, Isn't that obvious? "You're in a Restricted Fishing Area," he informs her. "I'm sorry, officer, but I'm not fishing, I'm reading." "Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. I'll have to take you in and write you up." "If you do that, I'll have to charge you with sexual assault," says the woman. "But I haven't even touched you," says the game warden. "Thats true, but you have a...

Perkiness is Highly Overrated

I have decided to dislike perky people. If you bounce instead of walk and smile like a cheerleader when you talk? Yeah. I don't like you. lol No. Perkiness is cool. Just don't perk at me. It's annoying as all get out and I might strangle you. Or write your strangulation into a scene of whatever I'm writing at the moment. Yeah, can you tell I'm currently working with a perky person? Freshmen are the pits. lol So eager to help and happy to be here and, well, perky. Actually, it's just one Freshman that we've got working with us here. A sweet girl fresh out of high school. She beats me to work every dang day and smiles at me. Ugh! But what's worse is, she doesn't have a key to get in our department and since I'm responsible for opening up, she waits for me at the staff entrance and waves and chirps as I turn the corner of the hallway. It's too early for folks to be waving and chirping at me. And I can't stand that she beats me to work. Make...

Can I have my sanity back please?

I'm sooooooooo irritable. lol I've just really got issues with space invasions. So Friday brought my sister (Sis1) to visit for the weekend and because I'm so hospitable (read: not a parental type unit) she stayed with me per her usual MO. Friday night wasn't so bad. We went and ate supper with our aunt. She met us for Mexican. I was starving by the time we met her, though, cuz I normally eat like around 5:00 or so. We didn't eat till nearly 7:00. I would have been on the verge of being a crankypants had we not run into my niece, her daddy and is folks in the resteraunt. They'd been under strict orders from Sis1 to eat elsewhere because she needed a "break" from them. But my BIL (lol) blatantly disreguarded her and they ate there anyway. We actually (and quite accidentlly) got seated in the booth behind them. So naturally, Emmy decided she was finished eating and spent the rest of their time there standing beside me and hugging and talking to me whil...

Caution: Daddy at Work

Image
For kicks I thought it'd be fun to post this picture of Daddy hard at work plowing up the garden. You know. In honor of Father's Day and all. That's likely the best picture you'll ever get to see of him cuz Daddy and camera's? Not the best of friends. Oh, don't get me wrong. The camera loves Daddy and all. He's an attractive man as far as daddies go. The problem is that Daddy tends to threaten bodily harm to any who would point their little cameras at him. He no like-y the camera. Good thing for me that he didn't know I took this. hehehe Even better that he doesn't know I'm posting it. *wg* Cuz me? In a full body cast? No so much fun, thankyouverymuch. I'd wax poetical about the man like I did Mama the other day but, *shrugs* he tends to piss me off as much as anything. That's what daddies tend to do, I think. In fact, I'm fairly certain that they pull young fathers aside and teach them a course on it. Oh, I love him. Couldn't ask...

Life's a Crap Shoot

Yeah, I know the above statement is in reference to gambling but I prefer to think it means that life is a bunch of crap flying all over...which some days? It totally is. And then you have days like today. I was given a beautiful compliment this morning. I can't go into details as to what it was because it was in reference to a confidential conversation but I will say that it totally made my day. I'd even go so far as to say it inspired me. Well, it inspired me in my writing life. The rest of today? Total suckage. lol But that's the great thing about being a writer and a reader is that I can escape into an alternate world and forget that the stressor in my life is knocking on the door. I can become enraptured in creating a happily ever after or a silly conversation between lovers. Or if the stressor is REALLY pounding at the door, I can lose myself in a particularly gruesome murder scene and feel sweet relief in it. Well, maybe it isn't a gruesome murder scene type of ...

Confessions of a 20-Something Nerd

I have a confession. One that may shock you. No, I'm not a cross dressing monk. hehehe It's just, I was typing a message to my pal, Sara, just now in which we were talking about sisters and the things they keep from us and well, I realized that I keep a very big secret part of my life from my sisters...heck, my whole family. I've never told any of my family that I'm a writer. Not a single solitary one of them. Oh, Mama knows that I have a little portfolio from my creative writing class that I took in college and once, a loooooong time ago I let Sis2 read the beginnings of my very first manuscript (handwritten and unfinished in a spiral notebook buried at the bottom of my "mementos" box in a closet) but I've never discussed it with anyone since then. And it's as I'm typing this that I realize just how big a secret it's become. Like, alter ego type secret. I'm leading a double life. (Yeah, I know. A little extreme sounding but in a lot of way...

Happy Birthday, Mama!

Today is Mama's birthday. She's 53. When did she get so old? lol You know, I told ya'll yesterday that over the weekend I re-albumed a couple of my photo albums. Well, some of the pics were from my grandmother's birthdays over the years and you know what? My mother is now a year younger than Granny was in the first birthday picture I have of her in my albums. How weird is that? Mama is old enough to be a Granny, except, she's a Nana. hehehe Another weird thing to think about is that my mother was a year younger than I am now when she had me. And I haven't even figured out if I even want to be married, let alone have kids. But the Lord saw fit to bless me with an awesome mother. Yeah, we annoy the crap out of each other a lot. She's a nit picker and I'm overly sensitive. She has bad comedic timing...as in...she always picks the worst times to try to be funny. Like when I'm in a crappy mood. (NOBODY'S funny when I'm in a bad mood. Not even t...

Cake Face

So I had a total obsession with cake this weekend, thanks to Food Network. *sigh* I'm a nerd. I admit it. I watched Food Network just about all weekend because, well, I was bored and nothing else was on TV PLUS it's good background noise when I'm reading. This weekend was wedding weekend and thus a LOT of cake was displayed and Jana got hungry for cake. Now, I'm not usually much on the whole cake thing. Once or five times a year is cool with me. I've never had the urge to just go out and buy a cake and eat the whole thing. Yeah. I sooooo wanted to this weekend. But no. I didn't DO IT. lol I did buy a cakemix yesterday but it's for my mom's birthday cake. I swear. That's the whole truth and nothing but the truth. No, for me I bought an extra can of frosting. Which I ate by the spoonful last night. *blushes* On a more positive spin, watching them cook inspired me to cook one of my more favorite foods which I rarely ever cook...home made chicken nuggets...

Howdy Ya'll

So I see Blogger has gotten it's panties out of a twist and is cooperating again. Good for Blogger! Twisted panties are no fun. ;-) Hard to believe a week has come and gone. Usually the weeks drag. This week? I dunno. It hasn't sucked. Not much, anyway. There's always gonna be suckages at some point but the week as a whole? Minimal suckage. I could probably point to a couple of reasons why but I won't. I told myself I wouldn't relay work issues here. But yeah, I'll suffice it to say that a major stressor was gone the latter part of this week leaving the majority of us a little giddy and dizzy with relief. hehehehe Am I a terrible person if I back out of going to my best friend's mom's benefit thing tomorrow? No one else I know is going and I hate going to these things and being a wallflower. On the other hand, maybe if i go by myself I'll meet more interesting people. *sigh* I dunno. I'm just thinking of maybe copping out and not going. Maybe I ...

Rambles...

Finally got my MySpace URL figured out and put the link up here under "jana's other blogs." Not much to it, but it's there anyway. Still can't figure out how to perty it up, though. :-/ Guess it don't really matter anyhow. ;-) I did monkey around and get it all spiffy. Took me a good portion of time but it's there. I might still decide not to keep it cuz I've already gotten a message from a married fella lookin' for a friend. Do married men actually look to single gals for "just friendship?" I got a compliment yesterday morning. My mom told me that I'm her happy medium. lol She was referring to my sisters. They're like extreme opposites in everything these days and are driving her crazy and she said that I'm her happy medium. *goofy grin* I'm not driving her crazy anymore! I'm hoping that means that all this hard work I'm putting into being happy and resisting negativity is working. I really, really hope that's...

I'm the eighth dwarf...Gripey

I so totally want to hide under a table. To be a Tuesday, it sure does feel like a Monday. lol Sis1's giving me a migraine with all the guilt trip she's heaping on me. She's desperate for me to come to Tuscaloosa this weekend to visit. No, she still doesn't know that was just there Saturday. Mum's the word on that one. She'd crap a brick and I'd move up to numero uno on her shit list. *sigh* And it isn't as if I don't want to go. (Even though I don't. Not really.) I'm just tired. And I can't drive my car over there because it's crap. And do not drive IN Tuscaloosa. I drive TO it but not IN it. So that would mean that my mom would have to drive me halfway twice...once to meet her to drop me off and once to meet her and pick me up. Totally not gonna expect my mom to do that. She's been a trouper helping me out with everything this year and I'm NOT gonna take advantage of her giving nature any more than I absolutely have to. Besi...

Spotted: One Sexy man at Church

Okay, so I may not have been entirely thrilled with my experience yesterday but holy wow. There was a dreamy dude sitting on the pew in front of me. He and his son. And no, he wasn't wearing a ring. I checked. And not a mommy in sight. I kid you not. He looked just like Brian Krause. The dude who plays Leo on Charmed ? Yep. He just had darker hair. The kid was pretty darn cute, too. Had to have been 4 or 5 and had the cutest little smile. But yeah. I went to church alone yesterday. I decided that I can't keep going to my parents' church just because it's "easier." I'm an adult for goodness sake. And it isn't as though I hadn't been going to church on my own for months before I messed up my knee. So I dragged the big girl panties outta the back of the drawer, tugged 'em on and went to church on my own. I decided to give the big church I'd previously been going to another shot and just see how I felt. Well, hottie and son aside, it was a rath...

Because it's better to laugh than pull your hair out...

My aunt sent this to me this morning and since I'm trying REALLY hard to be happy today, I thought I'd just post it here and snark on it. Enjoy! YOU KNOW YOU ARE LIVING IN 2006 when... 1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave. Um, not yet. I still have a microwave with a dial instead of buttons. It was cheap. I was broke... 2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years. Who needs solitare when you've got blogger??? 3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3. Actually, it's just two or three numbers per family member. I think. I'd have to check the contacts list in my cell phone. hehe 4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you. LOL Yes, actually, I do. Sad, ain't it? 5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses. Well, not really. Mostly it's because I don't like the friends and family I don't keep in touch with. If I...

Craptacular

Not really. I just always wanted to use that word and never had the opportunity to do so. Well. That's not entirely true. I've had plenty of opportunity but the word never comes to me at the opportune moment. I'm usually too pissed off at the time to remember to use it. lol So anyway, (Dream? There's one of those favorite words/phrases you were askin' about. hehe) I had to work till 5 last night. I know. Total bummer. hehe I got home around 5:30 and there's a message on my machine from my hair designer. (No. They aren't called beauticians or hair dressers any longer. Hair designers. They design hair masterpieces. hehe) I had an appointment to get my perm re-done on Saturday but she's had a change in schedule and can't do the appointment. She wants me to come in at 6pm Friday night. It's a three hour process and she wants me to come in at 6pm Friday night. Now, I'm not a social butterfly. Chances are, I won't ever have anything interesting...
