Can It Be True?

A three day weekend? What? Wha-hoooooooo! I've great plans to do absolutely NOTHIN'! Well, besides taking my car in for an alignment. And I really need to get a lot of crap packed up that I've been saying I'm going to pack up. And I guess I should do the laundry, clean up the kitchen, vacuum, give the Devil Pup her bath and go buy some groceries. But after that, I'm doing absolutely NOTHIN'! hehehehehe

A Tale of Two Tires

Or three, if you count the donut. Yesterday...what can I say about yesterday? Well, I now know that "roadside assistance" in my insurance policy does not cover having a tire changed on the side of the road. I'm a typical helpless sort of female in that I never learned how to change a tire and probably wouldn't trust any tire I put on anyway. So when my front passenger tire blew out yesterday morning on the way to work I had to call a towing company to come and change it out for me. Nice enough fellow. Very friendly and helpful. Except for when he had me climb up into his truck so that he could fill out the paperwork and collect the check. I was uber happy I'd decided to wear pants as opposed to a skirt. He likely got a bit mooned as it were. LOL At any rate, he put my spare (one of those silly little donut things) on there and cautioned me about how to drive on it. (don't get over 50mph and be careful when making turns. What he didn't caution me about is t...

Hear that Nonsense?

If you do, you've probably been talking to me. *sigh* You know, I miss the days when my ignorance was done so in bliss. There's a great deal to be said for not knowing exactly how ignorant you are. (Or that you're even ignorant!) And I've always considered myself a fairly informed person. Slightly less dumb than a lot of people I know. I read a lot. I'm current on most of the pop culture type subjects. I check out MSN for the top news stories and the like. I do not, however, know anything about current affairs of cities I don't live in. I barely know the current affairs of the town I do live in. I certainly don't know anything about political landscapes of other cities, states, etc. I can only (when pressed) cite you who the governor of Mississippi is but I could not tell you a single thing about him other than the fact that he has a girl's name, he's a former lobbyist and the hoity-toity rich folks who voted him in went through a period of about tw...

Tagged!

Kaitlin tagged me! So here goes... Here are the rules: 1. Go to this link at Pop Culture Madness (scroll down-see the list of years on left? And make sure you scroll down to the actual years, not the decades. It's way down at the bottom). 2. Pick the year you turned 18 3. Pick 5 songs from that year 4. Wax nostalgic about each song & why it's special 5. Pass it on 1. Barbie Girl by Auqua ~I was totally into Barbie as a kid (still am, sorta. I still have my 100+ Barbie Collection including accessories and furniture!) and when this song came out I just thought it was so freaking funny. My best friend had fun hasseling me about it, too. I even used this song as part of a speech assignment my freshmen year of college. 2.) Tubthumping by Chumbawumba I get knocked down, but I get up again, ain't nothing gonna keep me down... I still have no real clue what the song is about but it was fun to sing. (this was back in the day when I was an MTV TRL junkie.) 3.) It’s Your...

Agnes and the Hitman by Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer

I do loves me some Crusie/Mayer. I guess you've figured out that I finished this one last night. I neglected the poor devil pup (who, btw, was feeling much better last night and back to her old devilish tricks. lol) in order to do so, bless her heart. Agnes, also known as Cranky Agnes--newspaper columnist and author of Mob Food --finds herself in the midst of Mob craziness after a young man shows up to steal her dog. Enter Shane--government hitman and supposed nephew of Agnes's former Mob friend, Joey. Joey enlists Shane to come protect "little Agnes". What follows is a wild ride down some slippery slopes of the mob world, insanity and more tangled webs of lies and half-truths than any poor food columnist and hitman should ever have to endure. While some parts of the "mystery" are easily figured out the bigger picture takes me until it happens to figure it out and even now I'm saying, "Huh?" in bewilderment. Good bewilderment, though. The acti...

Jana Happy

Cause Jana got two loverly books in the mail yesterday. Agnes and the Hitman , the latest Crusie/Mayer Romantic Adventure (started reading it last night and oh. my. goshness. I think it's going to be better than Don't Look Down !) Almost A Family , Donna Alward's second Samhain release! Color me happy! (I took pictures of my happiness last night but ran off and left the camera at home!!! Aren't you thankful I'm forgetful?LOL)

Stupidity is Me and Other Silly Stuff

I taunted the Acid Reflux Monster last night and had pizza for supper. He retaliated by trying to make me toss my cookies. I stomped his butt with some Zantac and actually feel much better today. So far, anyway. I think he likes to torture me at night because I'm my most vulnerable. You know, my body's tired and ready to sleep and he's all like, "Ha-ha! I'll keep her awake and miserable!" while he gleefully rubs his hands together all evil monster that he is. I think he's got a buddy torturing the poor Devil Pup, too. She's been less of a Devil and more of a Puny Pup. I don't know if she's got a cold or a bug or what but she's been having these spells where she acts like she can't breath or something and she's thrown up a couple of times. She sleeps more than she's awake and I have to MAKE her go outside. All very unusual characteristics of my Libster. I hope she didn't catch something while I had her boarded. Or maybe this ...

Attack of the Acid Reflux

Image
Had a hellacious night last night and thusly may never eat Goldfish crackers again. Or at least not just before I go to bed, anyway. For some reason, watching a Will and Grace re-run gave me the munchies so I cracked open a bag of Goldfish crackers and chowed down at like 9:30 last night just before I went to bed. I read in bed a little while after that to finish Donna Alward's newest Harlequin Romance release, Marriage at Circle M before rolling over to go to sleep somewhere on the other side of 11:00. (It's mm...mmmm gooooood. Read it!) I was in the midst of a delicious dream involving the book's hero, Mike as well as Connor, the hero from the previous book Hired by the Cowboy (and no, I won't give you details!) when all of a sudden it felt like someone was ripping my guts out. I jerked up in bed, gasping for breath and realized, it was the attack of the killer acid reflux! *screams horror movie style* Needless to say, I didn't get much sleep last night. I pace...

Weekend with Jana

Image
I don't know what's gotten into me lately--whether it was the extreme togetherness of the past week or what--but I'm 'bout sick of my entire family. Alyssa excluded, of course. LOL I've been so ill with Mama lately. Everything she says or does is like fingernails on a chalkboard. Seems like anytime her attention lights on me it's in the form of criticsm. I can't do anything right. I'm stupid. Clueless. I can't hold a baby right, take a photograph right or curl Emmy's hair right. I'd even venture to guess that I can't breath right these days. And then she gets all defensive when I get snarky. And I've been all judgmental on her lately, too. I feel like she's hypocritcal, unkind, ungracious and a little crass. And those are things I'd have never associated with her before. And I'm sure anyone you asked would say I was crazy. But just some of the things she's said or done lately--to me as well as to others--just doesn...

Welcome Alyssa Renae!

Image
(More pictures scattered below!) Oh wow! I don't even know where to start! This week...Well, the most important thing is that I have a healthy and beautiful new niece named Alyssa Renae, to be called Alyssa. So ya'll know Sis2 was scheduled to be induced on Tuesday. Alyssa had other ideas. I was sitting at the reference desk at work Monday morning and I get a phone call. It's my mother. She asks, You ready to go to the hospital? [Sis2's] water just broke. Or at least that what she thinks it is. She's calling the hospital now and will call me back and I'll let you know what to do." So picture me all giddy. I know I told my supervisor and a co-worker who were in the area when I got the call. I sat back down and was going to fire off some giddy emails and maybe a blog post while I waited on my mother. They pulled me out of my chair and sent me packing, though. Said to go ahead and go home so that I could get Libby dropped off to be boarded. I snuck back to my...

I got a dilema and YOU can help!

Okay, so I have a question I need help with. Sort of an etiquette thing, I guess. I recently did this favor for a co-worker who is also a dear friend. I've known her since I was a kid and have worked with her for about six years. (She's a few years older than my mother, if that makes a difference.) The favor was nothing particularly huge to me and did not require anything really taxing from me. I honestly didn't mind doing it and was glad to have the opportunity to help her out of a jamb. I did it merely because she's my friend, I trust her and have a great deal of respect for her. Well, Tuesday she handed me this tightly folded bill of money (folded so that I couldn't see the digits) as payment for the favor. When I tried to return it to her, she insisted quite adhemently that I keep it and that it wasn't nearly enough to repay me this huge favor. I never unfolded it, thinking it was maybe a five or a ten which, I really didn't expect or ask for and didn...

Thirteen Things that Suck about the South

Sorry, no time for a header or code. A total rush job today! LOL Of course, I realize that some of these things aren't limited just to the south, but the south's where I'm at so...(And I was born and raised here, so I CAN say what sucks about it!) 1. 101 degree temperatures 2. 115 degree heat indexes 3. humidity so thick it feels like fog 4. humidity so thick it sticks to your face and clothes 5. mosquitoes big enough that one could carry off a small child or pet and two could carry off a grown woman 6. hamburger steak and chicken fried ANYTHING. (Ugh! I feel sick.) 7. seat belts that get so hot in summer the buckle melts the skin off your fingers 8. mimosa trees 9. ticks 10. four wheelers buzzing up and down the road at odd hours 11. lack of anything more cultural than the local community theatre which is more cliquish than a Beverly Hills High School 12. hurricane season 13. people thinkin' that "ain't" ain't a word! It is, ya'll!

Come Tuesday...

I will be an aunt again, one way or the other. Wha-hooo! Sis2 went to the doctor today and he says that if she doesn't deliver by this weekend, he's going to induce Tuesday morning. So, Tuesday if not before, I'll be an aunt again! Yay! I'm kind of hoping that she waits until Tuesday so that I can make arrangements with the vet to have Libby boarded. Otherwise, I don't know what I'll do. It's almost two hours to the hospital where she's having the baby so I can't just leave her at home because we'll likely spend the night. I can't just take her with me, either. And I DEFINITELY want to be there with Sis2 while she's in labor. She's asked me to and the one time I mentioned that I might not be able to, she got really down about it. Anyway, it'll all work out the way it's supposed to. But yay! New baby soon! Finally. hehehehe

Feeling Peevish

I don't know if I'm just getting super grumpy in my old age or what but I'm feeling pretty peevish towards somebody these days. As in, anytime I see them I wish I could blink and make them go away. I mean, I've sort of always gotten along with this person in the past but lately it seems this person is just...I don't know. Picking away at my patience. Always arguing with everything I say...or worse, belittling me under the guise of being supportive. (It's called condescension!) It's just really, really irritating and I'm seriously thinking of leaving an entire group of friends just because I don't like the negativity of this one person. And because this one person sort of sucks the joy out of my interaction with them, too, with all the little digs at me. I honestly don't know what's up. What I did to provoke it or if I'm just imagining it or what. It's really quite bothersome. I mean, I don't expect everyone I meet or know to like ...

Islands in the Stream

This is what I was singing at the top of my lungs in my car Saturday as I pulled into the Chinese parking lot and completely clued out on the fact that a co-worker who I'm pretty sure already thinks I'm a total bitch waved at me. Before it dawned on me that there was not only a person standing in the parking lot much less that this was someone who I KNOW, the moment had passed and I'd already driven past and he certainly must know for sure that I'm a snotty bitch. Oh well. I was groovin' on Dolly and Kenny and anytime I'm groovin' I'm just totally clued out on the rest of the world. (and half the time when I'm NOT groovin' I'm totally clued out on the rest of the world!) Of course, when I got inside the restaurant and saw him, HE ignored ME. Which is cool. I mean, the dude's nice and all but I don't have any aspirations of becoming BFF's with him and his girlfriend/fiance/whoever. So it's all good. I just felt bad because I di...

No Baby Yet

And Sis2's gettin' anxious. She was told two weeks ago that it could be any day now and now her doc's saying she will likely make her due date (the 10th) if not a little ways after. In fact, he said if she doesn't have it by the 10th, he's likely to induce. So, maybe next week I'll have a baby to spoil?? ;-) Got home last night and had to battle ants in the Devil Pup's crate. Bless her heart they'd moved in on her food and water while I was at work and she was cowered in the very back to get away from them. She's had a run-in with an antbed so she's not overly fond of the boogers. Had to spray the dining room to get rid of them and HOPEFULLY keep them out of the house for a while. Then had to vacuum up all the dead ants and wash all of my poor baby's blankets and pillows. She had fun chasing dryer sheets. I'm supremely glad that today is Friday. Other than yesterday, this hasn't been that bad a week. I'm just tired. After two or t...

Sorry Trix, No TT

I've got a massive headache and I've lost all will to live. Okay, so that's a little dramatic, but yeah, I do have a major headache and I'd happily go jump in front of Mack truck should one present itself. I'm just so frustrated. I hate it when things that involve me are dictated by others. I have no say and anything I attempt to say is either ignored or treated with condescension. I hate that there are some things in life that simply are not what I signed up for. Anyway, that's all I've got to say about it. Life will go on and I'll do what I'm told. I don't have to be happy about it but what choice do I have? I'm off to find some Aleve.

Jana As Stereotype

Fat? Check. Single? Check. Poorly dressed government worker stuck in a cubicle all day? Check, check. (sort of. I work at a library but it IS run by the state...) Huh. I'm a stereotypical romance novel reader. Kewl. hehehe Of course this comes from some pretentious jerk up in New York so I don't hold much stock in it. Of COURSE he's going to think all romance novels are cheesy sex stories read by fat, frumpy and sexually frustrated government workers. He also thinks New York is the center of the universe. What skyscraper did he fall out of? How would he like it if I said all New Yorkers are uptight pretentious snobs whose lives are so empty they must snark on some stranger they saw reading an unfortunately titled Silhouette novel on the R train? And I'm not knocking New Yorkers as I've never met one personally. I'm just saying you shouldn't judge what you know nothing of. And if I'm a stereotype? Well, heck. I guess there are worse things in life. Like...
