Weekend Review #1,556,782

So Friday night was another girls' night out. This time it was girls' night out with my work pals. (I'm so far past broke now there ain't enough glue in the factory to patch my budget and accounts back together. *sigh*) Ms. B's birthday is today so us girls decided to treat her to a night out. (And can I just say how awesome it is that we've all managed to keep in touch with her since her retirement? Awesome.) We were set to meet between five and five-thirty and since I get off work at 4 and don't live anywhere near close enough to run home and come back,  I had some time to kill. (One of the few drawbacks to where I live.) Since I didn't want to face the crush of Friday afternoon at Wal-Mart and Lowe's is too tempting to walk through, I decide to run into Cato's and do some browsing. *sigh* You know how sometimes your own stupidity reaches up and smacks you in the face and laughs while your lip swells up? You don't? Well, I do. Well enou...

A Thought...

I've finally realized why I haven't invested in an MP3 player/iPod yet. I always thought it was because I didn't want the hassel of figuring out the technology of downloading stuff from the internet. Now I realize it's because I'm waiting on technology to invent a chip that can be inserted in the brain so that music can be downloaded directly into one's head. Just think about the songs you want to listen to and BAM! instantly playing in your head. Sort of like the shuffle of Lady Antebellum's CD that I've got going in my head right now. Except with complete lyrics.

Another Friday Confession

I think Twitter is giving me a dirty mind. Or, reading twitter makes me conscious of double entendres. Either way, I just deleted a tweet because upon re-reading it it sounded dirrrttty. lol Deleted tweet: I use my hands during conversations...on the phone. Yes. I'm one of THOSE people. ;-) What I meant was "I use hand gestures/expressions whilst talking on the phone." What would YOU think it meant? LOL Either way, I don't want Twitter thinking I'm doing THAT while I'm on the phone. And I can just hear a few of my followers hooting with laughter at that. *cringes* I mean, I like to be funny but not dirrrttty funny...unless I intended to be dirrrttty funny.  Unintentional dirrrtttty funny is just embarrassing. ;-)

A True Confession

Big plans

Well maybe not BIG but plans nonetheless. I've got the itch to do some more projects around the house. I've taken some time off on doing anything major mostly because funds are seriously low. And I need to be, you know, responsible and start saving some dough. I'm pretty sure that within the next few years (four? five?) I'm gonna need a new roof. And roofs (rooves?) ain't cheep! I'm not sure how much one will run me since my house is on the smallish side (around 1200 sq ft) (smallish because most homes these days are 2000 sq ft and up) but I'm figuring somewhere within the neighborhood of $5 to $6k. Maybe more if I get a metal roof like I really want. And Jana? Jana ain't got no $5k laying around. Much less $6k or more. Blech. I'm also wanting to replace the carpet in the bedrooms before I'm forty. Which, let's face it--forty is gettin' closer and closer! (As of next month I'm edging ever closer to mid-thirties) And carpet ain...

Ten Things That Make Me Happy Today

Image
1.) Chuck . Chuck makes me very happy. I'm still flying high from the time I spent with him last night. Seriously, it's like the second Zachary Levi walks on screen and gives that trademark smile my heart goes all gooey in my chest and my lips curve up all dreamy smile-ish and for that one hour each Monday night I'm on cloud nine. Pitiful, no? 2.) Her. 'Nuff said. 3.) My friends. All of 'em. Ms. B who I only get to see once a month and chat on the phone every few weeks. E who talks me into field trips to Starbucks so that we can blame each other for being bad. Trix who hated the way Medium ended, too. (And always sends me the awesomest handmade cards.) BFF who calls once a month to update me on the ever shifting drama of her life. (She's doing much better, by the way. Goes back to work next week.) Jen who  once--in a round about way--compared me to the awesome Pioneer Woman. (And who's love story to her fireman still gives me hope that true love real...

A Family Weekend

The best part about this weekend was Friday night. The sisters and I had a girls' night out for Sis1's birthday. We had originally intended on going to the local bbq joint because I was treating and I'm poor. But then the folks offered to throw in some cash to help me out so we ended up going to a "fancy" place and getting steak. One word: YUM! Omigosh, that was some darned good steak. It was like what steak would taste like if steak were candy. It was that good. I would like another, please. The conversation was good, too, though to be honest, I wasn't feeling all that social. However, it's always fun to be out with the sisters. But...(and this but goes back to the fact that I'm naturally not social) one of their mutual friends (who I don't know well) stopped at our table just before we ordered and sat and talked to them for about 20 minutes. I had to order for all three of us because they were talking to her when the waiter came to take our...

My Idiot's Showing

I need to remember to start zipping that stuff up better. hehe No, seriously, this morning there was this gorgeous dude that came in our area all cute and sweet and in need of research assistance. And wouldn't you know my brain chose this morning not to cooperate properly? I can't explain what idiotic behavior I exhibited because it goes into too much detail about stuff ya'll wouldn't care anything about. (Searching finding aids.) But let's just say I felt like an idiot when the librarian finally came in and helped him. It was something I should I have KNOWN to do and instead I was running around like a doof. I'd like to say that I was just struck speechless by his hotness but I'm pretty sure it's just because half the time I operate on half throttle instead of full. Anyway, Sis1 and Emmy are on their way here for the weekend. So be warned. I'll likely have lots of fun news come Monday. hehehehe In the meantime, have a GREAT weekend!

Blech...

It's just been one of those days. I splattered coffee on my bright green shirt at break this morning. Not unusual. Still annoying. Fortunately I keep a box of Shout wipes in my desk drawer. Unfortunately it spread a little bit as I blotted and now I have a very pale oval of stain over my right boob. Marvelous! I don't think the tomato I ate on my sandwich at lunch likes me very much. I've been feeling nauseated ever since I got back from lunch and wouldn't you know that due to being shorthanded today I found myself stuck at the reference desk babysitting three patrons. Trying not to barf over a group of hunky college boys is miserable enough. But one of them was working on the microfilm reader printer and on two separate occasions he had trouble with the printer. Once when the paper ran out and then when some paper jammed. Not a big deal, right? Wrong. The printer for the microfilm reader sits on a little roll out shelf an inch from the floor. Meaning--I had to...

Whew!

Image
It's been a busy little while. Keeping up with training new students as well as first of the year projects is killing me. Seriously. I'm planning my funeral. No carnations, please. I did enjoy my long weekend, though. I got a lot done on Saturday that needed doing. Including cleaning up my filthy disgusting kitchen.  I don't know what happened to me last week but apparently whatever it was dictated that no dishes be washed. Hence my kitchen was a disaster by Saturday. I'd have taken pictures of it but I was too ashamed. I also picked the Devil Pup up a little Post-Christmas present. Because she needed a little treat, yanno. I think she liked it. It's very girly. Actually, she looks terrorized. But I'm gonna go with she liked it and that the pink bow was her favorite part. So after I finished terrorizing dressing the DP, I got busy doing other things in the house. Like, removing the door to the master bath. It may be a controversial issue in the la...

I think I sprained something...

Been a super busy day around here. I've been earning my paycheck today, lemme tell ya. Hence the lack of a real blog post. I've got a ton more to do but I couldn't finish the day out without stopping by to say "Hey" to my peeps. So, "Hey, ya'll!" I'm looking forward to the three day weekend, for sure. I'll try to do something fun and I hope  ya'll do as well. Happy Weekend!

Mah shoe!

Image
Because I know how much ya'll do love all the sordid intimate details of my life and were sorely disappointed that I didn't include any visuals when I announced that I had broken my shoe Tuesday and because I'm not quite right in the head... Sad, ain't it?

Snowday 2011: In color!

Image
My supplies. Bread. Water. Batteries. Can opener. Tuna. Tater chips. Bagels. Roast beef. And see how I added some healthly veggies   fruit in there? ( Tomatoes, ya'll.) I am the QUEEN of preparedness for snow/ice storm with possible electricity outages! That big can of chicken breasts? Lasted me three meals. I never even had to crack open the tuna. The Roast Beef, however, I just finished today. And the Stax, too. I miss my Stax. *mentally hugs Stax* I also bought my very first ever pair of snowboots...the last pair they had! (20 smackers at Wally World.) Ain't they perty? And they are toasty warm, too. So, being the dorky rarely-ever-snows Southerner, I started taking pictures Sunday night. Which worked out okay until I aimed for further than the security light could light. But then Monday morning I woke up to this! And this!  And this! Ugh. My junky neighbors totally ruined that shot. See all that junk behind the trees? That's not mine. That belongs to th...

It's Monday

Not technically. But I broke my shoe. Doesn't that count toward today being a Monday? And by "broke my shoe" I mean the sole is 3/4 of the way separate from the insole. As in, my shoe decided to become a flip-flop without all the benefits of actually being  a flip-flop. Thank goodness I keep a pair of old shoes stashed in my file cabinet at work. I always thought I was keeping them in case it rained on a day I was wearing actual flip-flops and didn't want to get my feet wet. Who woulda guessed that they'd need to rescue my one-year old Dr. Scholl's loafers? So. Now I guess Libby's Mama really does need to by a new pair of shoes! And seriously wishing I had my camera with me today. Ya'll really need to see this shoe disaster. It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen as far as shoes go. lol But, when glue is the only thing holding a sole to the insole and body of the shoe, I guess it's not terribly shocking. Mental note for next pair...

A Perfect Snowday

So, for those who weren't aware of this...MISSISSIPPI HAD SNOW!! Or, actually, we had a sleet and snow mix that accumulated about 3 inches and looks like snow. Definitely feels more like ice than snow, though. But that didn't stop people from partying in it and building snowmen and sledding and all that fun stuff. We'd been hearing warnings about the coming winter storm all last week. So Saturday morning I stocked up on batteries and food that could be eaten without a microwave or stove. I filled jugs with water, filled the tub with water for flushing, Daddy set up my little propane burner thingy so that I could heat water/food. I was Prepaired. Capital "P" on purpose. Those of you up north may be used to snow and ice but us Southerners aren't used to it at all. And we usually lose electricity for a couple of days during and after a winter storm. Hence the prepairedness. What's commonplace in other regions is novelty down here. There's actually a...

True Confessions and Other Yawns

Image
I still have my tree up and all my decorations, too. I didn't want to spend my last weekend of vacation working so I put it off. Fortunately nobody ever sees inside my house but me. But I'll probably get it down this weekend. Or pray for a snow day Monday and take it down then. The weather cutie really is predicting a big snow/ice storm this weekend. Supposedly we're expected to get up to 7 inches of accumulation. I'm praying for snow instead of ice, though. Ice is a nightmare. Snow I can still get a free day off work and possibly not injure myself taking the DP outside for her private business. I feel like such a fraud whenever anyone congratulates me on the award I won at work. Mostly because it isn't as though they randomly picked me to win. I had to nominate myself and fill out a lengthy essay style application describing why I think I deserved to win it. And well, you've read my blog. You know how wordy I can be. They probably gave it to me just to o...

Strange But True: I'm nosey

I'm a blog-aholic. I read blogs about as much as I read books. Maybe more. I liked reading other people's more interesting lives. Let's face it. A former city girl married to a hot cowboy ? Yeah. Way more interesting life than mine. Reading blogs reminds me of when I was about 13 and I used to read Sis1's diary. And trust me. There was some dang shore interesting stuff up in there! Yeah, I know. I shouldn't have read my sister's diary. But she hid it in her sock drawer! It's like she wanted me to read it. Also, she would get racy lust letters (Not love letters. Definitely all about lust.) from her boyfriends and keep them in her purse and tell me, "You better not go through my purse!" So of course I went through her purse at the first opportunity and read the racy lust letters. It never would have occurred to me to do so had she not so specifically said not to go through her purse. It was like a red flag taunting me. I knew there had to be ...

Resolutions

While I didn't actually make any resolutions, so far I haven't stuck to anything that I said I wanted to do/be better at this year. For one thing, I suck. For another, I'm very good at rationalizing doing whatever I want instead of what I should do. Like, I told myself, "Self, you're not going to waste anymore money on $4 fancy coffees this year. It's ridiculous, frivolous and shows a blatant disregard to your money management skills. And they'll keep you fat." Self said, "You betcha." And then the first invite to go to Starbucks Self said, "I'll have a grande non-fat mocha with whip." Because I had to hang with my friend, right? So. Yeah. The no more $4 coffees went up in flames. Also told myself, "Self, we're going to get back in the habit of indoor walking." (Because I slacked off the second week of vacation. *facepalm*) Self replied, "You betcha." Then the past two nights upon returning home ...

New Year, Same Ol' Me

Image
Yesterday was too crazy to check in with ya'll but I was indeed back behind my desk at work. Not to say that I was actually doing a lot of what most people would call actual work, but I was at my desk. ;-) I'll get to that later on this week. Probably. For now it's just a lot of catch up after two weeks off stuff, first of semester stuff, and remembering what the crap I was doing before I left. The answer to that, if my book truck and periodicals drop box is to be believed is, Not much. But anyway, I've got the whole "What I did over Christmas Vacation" report to give. I'll try not to be too wordy. First week Monday I got up super early and took the DP to the vet for a mani/pedi. She was in dire need of one if the scars on my chest, arms and neck are to be believed. But since I had lunch plans with Mrs. B and Mama, I had to drop the DP off at Sis2's for she and Lyssa to Bibby-sit. (Bibby, being what Lyssa called Libby up until about six months a...
