One more clear sky evening for another view of their conjunction.
Venus and Jupiter
Their conjunction in the evening twilight is a beautiful sight. Look west tonight just at dark.
Zooming in on Jupiter showed 3 of the 4 Galilean Moons. The high zoom also showed a bit of movement due to Earth’s rotation. Look again tonight.
Comet C/2025 R3 Speeding Along
Back on 13 April I was able to capture an image of this comet in the early morning hour. It passed almost directly between Earth and the Sun during 23 April to 27 April. The Solar & Heliospheric Observatory orbits Earth at the location L1 about a million miles away between Earth and the Sun. It captured the passage in a series of images making up a video. Comet C/2025 R3
Unlike the sungrazer I recently wrote about, this comet will survive its close approach to the Sun. I was up well before twilight and looked ENE with my binoculars to locate it. Further details here.
Sungrazer Comet
Some comets approach the Sun and come very close to it. These comets don’t always make it around the Sun in their orbit. The intense heat and strong gravity can cause them to disintegrate. This happened to a recent sungrazer on 4 April 2026. This post documents its journey.
