When someone complains to me about getting older, I gently remind them that not everyone has the privilege of growing old. Although I understand the challenges that come with aging, my philosophy with each passing year, is that I am still on the right side of the dirt.
As I approach my 65th birthday and the benefits of officially becoming a senior, I thought it might be a good time to revisit a piece I wrote about 11 years ago. I guess it’s a bit of a check in to see how I am doing with this whole aging thing.
I am happy to say that I still feel confident about following my own advice to date. In addition to my thoughts in my original piece at the age of 54, I would add the following:
I am still learning about aging with grace, to meet my body where it is at. I am grateful that it continues to hold me upright, allowing me to do the things I love to do, albeit with some modifications!
I am learning to let go of the things I can’t control, at the same time, paying attention to those who may reach out for my help & support.
I am trying to do a better job of not always offering my opinion as to how I think things should be, but rather grant those around me the choice to their find their own journey as it suits them.
I encourage you to have a read or a reread of the original piece I wrote at the age of 54 by clicking on the link below. Feel free to add any nuggets you may have learned on your life journey that you would like to share.
I am ever so grateful for you continuing to read my musings. Bring on 65!
Hugs
