Walls & Bridges #1
“I told him I had once lost everything I had, too, and that I think that can be God’s way of building walls around us to force us to look up at Him.”

Ah! Sun-flower
BY WILLIAM BLAKE
Ah Sun-flower! weary of time,
Who countest the steps of the Sun:
Seeking after that sweet golden clime
Where the travellers journey is done.
Where the Youth pined away with desire,
And the pale Virgin shrouded in snow:
Arise from their graves and aspire,
Where my Sun-flower wishes to go.
“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me.”
(Mt 25:35)
I’m not sure “serendipity” defines the time, place and moment in which this photograph was captured. To have been at the Farmer’s Market on this particular day, at that moment, and with camera in hand, could be described as something serendipitous.
But, I’m not a real believer in happenstance; that things just randomly happen to us. Nor do I think that we are puppets on strings being ushered through life. I do, however, believe that all things happen for a reason and it’s all part of a greater plan that we don’t understand, but that will one day be revealed to us.
I know nothing of this man and child. I know nothing of their lives. But, at some point, the man, or his relations, came to this country, as did my family — as immigrants. In fact, all of us in this lifetime are immigrants, passing through this world on a journey. Let’s never forget! We are all immigrants regardless of how long we have established our roots in one place or another and we should welcome all as we would welcome Christ in our presence.

Welcome to the One31 VisualArts photography blog.
My camera is a portal to another dimension of seeing. Photography, for me, is a spiritual exercise. It is a contemplative experience that awakens the soul to beauty and kindles the spiritual senses. The camera — this portal to the holy — is no mere gadget. It is a spiritual implement.
My hope and prayer is that, by grace, I will be guided to use my camera in a way that allows my photographs to become a prayer of sorts.
Pax vobiscum,
