In Ephesians 6:19-21 to:

Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing    and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

It was Sunday evening during the Fellowship Hour in a local church. After sharing Bible verses and singing praises to the Lord Jesus Christ a sudden power interruption occurred. The church finished just in time. Since it was brownout,an associate pastor found a way to unwind through singing Christian hymns. It was delightful and refreshing to hear those Christians hymns in the middle of a power interruption. Everything seems endearing and easy. God meant the brownout so that  hymns will be sung and that He may be glorified through such and that the hearers may praise God. Time passed by and the lights were back again.

Just as the light returned, dinner was already prepared. Then out of the conversations over meals, a professing believer said ; “Who sang the songs?”…It was quite annoying…”. I was stunned. It was irritating and offensive. I cannot understand why she reacted like that. She is very unbelievably offensive. I found her comments not only offensive to the pastor but also to God. Those hymns were blessings for my soul and she regarded it with as annoying! What kind of believer is she? is she for real? Haven’t she read Ephesians 6:19-21?

To say such comment is a clear irreverence and disobedient to God. I doubt if she has been reading the book of Ephesians. Can a Christian hate God-praising hymns? Is it not that hymns were for the Lord and not for oneself? The most likely thing is that a believer who loves God would love to hear hymns for God. Would it be for oneself then it is not for God. If it is for oneself then he is a lover of self who would rather choose songs only to satisfy self and not God. It is ultimately unbiblical. Examine yourself if you are really in the faith, “Christian”? (1 Corinthians 13:5). A Christian’s allegiance is always not for oneself but to God.
