riveted copper button & bangle
I'm psyched to be teaching Simply Riveting!
at the Worcester Center for Crafts this Saturday and Sunday.
It's one of my favorite classes to teach
because I love making rivets.
There will be at least one enamelist in this class who's interested in learning to make riveted copper buttons. The easiest way to add a shank on to the back of a copper button blank would be to simply solder it on. Unfortunately, solder and enameling don't always play well together so riveting does seem like a perfect solution. I wasn't quite sure how I was going to make this happen, but then an idea popped into my head!

I won't give my solution away... you'll have to take my class to find out,
but as you can see from the images, I've securely attached a shank
to the button blank with invisible rivets, no less!
one visible wire rivet
I left one of the wire rivets unfinished on the inside of the bangle so you could see that these pieces are really put together with rivets and not simply soldered together. They are ready to be enameled!

Riveting is a great skill to master. You should give it a try.
