My adventures in sewing, from the very very beginning…

Material and projects

Well, I’ve decided what my first projects are going to be, and been out to buy the material for them.

First project is going to be a doorstop for my mother’s newly decorated living room – she has been looking for one for ages, but hasn’t been happy with any of the available options. The room is duck egg blue and oatmeal/biscuity colours, and I found this perfect Tanya Whelan fabric from John Lewis:

Next project on the cards is going to be a book support cushion for the several large and fragile Victorian reference books I frequently have to use, and for this, I am going to use the lovely Rosali blue fabric from Ikea:

I recommend Ikea for anyone looking for these sorts of fabrics: this was just £5 a metre, compared to the very similar fabric available at a well-known retailer which comes in at £15 a metre!

Will be starting both projects in the next few days, and will keep you posted on each step!

Material has arrived!

Look at all this lovely new material, arrived today from the wonderful http://www.celticfusionfabrics.com

I ordered a few bundles of samples, just so I can get used to playing with the machine and trying different stitches and things out, but these are all so lovely I think I am going to find lots of little projects to use them for as well.

Perhaps some brooches? A little coin purse or two? Who knows, will keep you posted!

Sewing novice is launched

Into the scary world of sewing I go – Santa brought me my first sewing machine this Christmas (actually, he brought me two, but that’s another story…) and I have never sewn anything in my life before, so this is the story of my adventure from the very beginning!

Thanks for following, all comments (and suggestions!) gratefully received 🙂
