Brown Shooting a Psyop?

It's a funny thing about people who are being brainwashed. They don't know it, and will therefore argue to the death with you that it never happened. Now if you ask someone if they think the media brainwashes Americans, almost anyone would answer yes, absolutely. Yet when you show someone an example of it happening, a psyop, they will tell you that you are nuts. Let's have a look at this case.

It now looks like the Michael Brown shooting has turned out to be another psysop perpetrated by the mainstream media, for the purposes of social conditioning.

The police are out of control in this country, I will not argue that. There are hundreds of cases I can think of off the top of my head that show that. Yet none of those cases sparked the outrage we have seen in the wake of the shooting death of Michael Brown.

For the past several days the dead man has been portrayed in the media in the most positive light, with pictures of him holding babies and so forth. leading most folks to conclude that this might very well have been an outright street execution of an innocent citizen at the hands of a thug cop. Sadly enough, this is quite possible in our so-called land of the free.

But something about this case didn't quite set right with me from the start. The rush to judgement before any of the facts were in for one thing. Just because the police shoot someone, does not necessarily mean that a shooting is not justified. Even in a city or police department where abuses of power have been reported in the past. Then I observed how the case took off like wildfire in the media.

Today, the case has suddenly taken a 180-degree turn. Instead of a picture of a young man holding a baby or looking like your average college student, a photo emerged today of him pointing a pistol at a camera with a wad of cash stuffed in his mouth. Straight thug mode. Of course, one picture doesn't really prove or disprove anything. We all probably have a few stupid pictures out there that wouldn't make us look very good if it happened to wind up splashed by the media spotlight. Just the same though, it really gave me pause today when I saw it, and hooked into that uneasy feeling I had been having about the case from the start.

The real bombshell now though, is the latest report indicating that Brown may have been the perpetrator of a strong-arm robbery which the officer had been responding to. This seriously damages the theory that Brown was just some innocent person caught up in senseless violence by police.

But how does this make it a psyop you ask? Well, look at the net result here.

The media chose to run with the ball so to speak, and hype up this story to national, even international levels. This created a whirlwind of emotions and opinions by Americans. Thousands of people as late as yesterday turned out to clog city streets across the nation to protest the shooting. But today, the story essentially got its legs cut off by the revelation that the supposed victim, was probably a criminal and that the shooting might very well have been justified after all. The net result, is two-fold.

First, there will be the "I told you so" crowd who will use this case as an example from now on, anytime someone points out legitimate instances of abusive authority. What was, for a few days, a very bad PR debacle for the police has suddenly given them a teflon coating for future incidents. From now on whenever someone questions a police shooting, or questions the over-reaching arm of the police-state, there will be those who will simply write it off and say, "yeah, just like the Michael Brown case" and roll their eyes. The case has now quickly undermined the work of genuine activists who have been working for years to bring to light the legitimate concern of frequent abuses of authority by police.

Second, this case will create even further racial division in our country. Blacks will blame whites for not standing by a victim of police brutality, whites will blame blacks of ignorantly supporting thuggishness, and everyone will accuse everyone of being racist. It will wind up just like the Trayvon Martin case, or the OJ case, all over again. The old divide and conquer works every time. And let me just say this on that topic. The powers-that-be need us to stay focused on the racial divide. They don't want us to see that the real problem is an economic one, not a racial one. The elites don't give a crap about anyone that is not in their little club, and they have an army of cops out there to protect their interests, not yours. Those elites can't have blacks and whites coming together in one unified voice, to take back the American dream from the death grip of vampire banking and corporatism.

Now I will probably be accused of being just another woo-woo conspiracy theorist here, saying that this was a psyop. No, I don't think that some secret-agent spook went out there and orchestrated a street shooting. But I do believe that the media has been manipulated in such a way so as to deliberately undermine those who would dare to question authority while sowing even more racial hatred in this country. And who will benefit from that? Not Brown's family, not the people of that city. The powers-that-be are the only winners here.

Man Who Got Into Super-Bowl Without a Ticket Interviewed (VIDEO)

In case you happened to be among the small handful of Americans that didn't watch this year's Super Bowl, you missed a pretty shocking interruption of the post-game coverage by an activist for 9/11 truth. The first video is the clip of what happened. The second is an interview with him afterward, in which he admits that he got past all security without even buying a ticket to the most "secure" sporting event in history.

DC Navy Yard Shooting Reported a Day Before It Happened !

It almost appears sometimes, as if the powers-that-be are deliberately making fun of just how stupid the typical American really is, when we routinely see news reporting mishaps like this one.

Once again, we see another major news event related to guns, violence, and terrorism reported by major media outlets before the events are alleged to have actually taken place.

It has been reported incessantly through the mainstream media today, Monday, September 16 that a gunman opened fire and killed a dozen people at the Washington D.C. Navy Yard around mid-morning. The body-count started with just a few people injured and is now up to 13 dead the last time i looked. That is not the story we are reporting on here though.

The story we are telling you about this evening, is that the shooting was reported by the Associated Press roughly nine hours before it happened. Or allegedly happened anyway. Is this purely a media fabrication from start to finish? Pure propaganda?

The Daily Courier, a Canadian newspaper, published their article on Sunday, September 15, at 2331 hours according to their own website. Granted, the paper is based in British Columbia, a few time zones away from Washington DC, but not 9 hours apart. They also reported that it happened an hour earlier than it supposedly took place, stating that the shootings took place beginning around 8:20 a.m. rather than 9:20 a.m.

Keep in mind though, that this was not an original article by the Daily Courier, but something they picked up off the wires from the Associated Press. Even if the reporter happened to be sending the report from the other side of the planet, that still would not account for the pre-dating of the article. Now some might say that the newspaper's webpage timestamp was off, and that must be the explanation. But if that were true, it must have also been off for ABC news, and Google.

Here are the screenshots, captured for posterity, and the related links below for as long as they might last.

Julie Borowski: Why I Became Anti-War (VIDEO)

No one wanted to listen though, when some of us talked about these things 12 years ago. Some of us remembered the lessons of history. Some of us were already well aware of war profiteering, the military-industrial complex, the corporate influence over government, and yes, even false-flag attacks. Many of us were less than convinced by the official account of the 9/11 attacks from the outset, and became even less trusting in our own government when we were led into war with Iraq for no good reason at all really.

Still though, it is good to see some people are waking up, and coming around to realize some of these things now. I worry though, that this awakening of sorts is more of a partisan anti-Obama position, than a true anti-interventionist stance. Time will tell I suppose. My prediction is that a Republican will take back the White House in the next election. And then we we will see who the hypocrites really are.

So many news anchors and pundits have already shown themselves to by just that, hypocrites. They were old enough and informed enough to know better then. But now, we see younger folks like Julie here, who were blinded by the dazzle of misguided patriotism and propaganda waking up to the fact that they were lied to by these hypocrites. That they were misled by the mainstream media talking heads who nly speak out against war now that it is a Democrat doing it instead of a Republican.

I admire Julie though. She makes no bones about it that she was wrong. That is not hypocrisy. That is just what we call in the conspiracy/alternative-media "waking up."

Here is her wake up call.

My personal story on how I went from a pro-war Bush supporter to an anti-war patriot. This video is much different than any of my other recent videos. No crazy costumes or props. This is just me and my story.

*Non-interventionist is probably a more accurate word to describe me. Unfortunately, it is not a common term*

'Mail Online' False-Flag Chemicak Attack Article Vanishes

In January 29, 2013, Britain’s most popular Daily Newspaper, in its online version Dailymail.co.uk published an article titled:

U.S. ‘backed plan to launch chemical weapon attack on Syria and blame it on Assad’s regime’

A few days later they pulled the article.

What the reason was for the deletion remains unclear. The article was published at this URL:
dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2270219/U-S-planned-launch-chemical-weapon-attack-Syria-blame-Assad.html

There exists a cached version of the article which can be found here:

http://web.archive.org/web/20130129213824/http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2270219/U-S-planned-launch-chemical-weapon-attack-Syria-blame-Assad.html

See scan of complete deleted article below:

One day later, on January 30, a moderated news board thread was created, which is still online, at Mail Online about that article. “Thread: Syrian WMD False Flag – Are False Flags a way of life now?“

In their initial article Mail Online refers to an Infowars.com article (dated January 28, 2013), that’s where they probably found the information on the leaked e-mail and other documents.

CapitalBay  (who published the wrong areal pictures of the school in Sandy Hook), Mail Online, Infowars, Yahoo News India, News Track India, Whale.to, Philippine Times, Uganda News, LiveLeak, Truth Media TV and others all claim in their mirrored articles that the alleged e-mail from Britam’s David Goulding to Philip Doughty was dated December 25, 2012.

However, at Neftegaz.ru (translated with Google) there also exists another version of the alleged e-mail. There the e-mail is dated December 24, 2012.

Whether the content of the alleged e-mail is correct, that’s open for debate. Fact is that PressTV has an article online which supports the claims in the alleged e-mail. And RT‘s article from last year (June 10, 2012) still claims that “Syrian rebels aim to use chemical weapons,” to then blame Assad for it. Those weapons came from Libya, according to RT. This begs the question: Did Christopher Stevens know about those weapons when he died in the CIA villa in Benghazi last year?

But why was the article pulled by Mail Online?

Why do there exist at least 2 versions of the same alleged e-mail?

And what about Britam admitting that they were hacked, according to Ruvr.co.uk (The Voice of Russia)?
But there’s also this, according to Mail Online it was a Malaysian hacker who got to the alleged e-mail(s), while Infowars claims that the e-mail was “obtained by a hacker in Germany.”

Either way, whoever initiated the Britam e-mail escapade did a good job at fooling both mainstream and alternative news outlets because it’s a real mess and few know what really happened and why.

Yet it’s ironic that Mail Online did not delete their other article where they wrote about the UN’s Carla Del Ponte who claims that Syrian rebels are responsible for “sarin gas attacks, which had been blamed on Assad’s troops.” The same rebels who now receive resources from the EU and the U.S., since the EU is buying oil from those “rebels” and the US is arming them for a proxy war as the Washington Post describes it.

Earlier it was reported that Israel had granted oil exploration rights inside Syria, in the occupied Golan Heights, to Genie Energy who’s shareholders include Rupert Murdoch and Lord Jacob Rothschild.

Trayvon Martin Case Infotainment Hoax by Media?

It may sound ridiculous to even entertain such wild theories. But then again, the more crazy something sounds to most of us, the easier it is to get away with, if you are the one behind the conspiracy. This premise is what drives me to at least stop and listen, to consider ideas that you will never hear about in the mainstream media, even if I don't buy into the whole theory.

Unless you have been living under a rock somewhere, you should already know that the case we are talking about here is the shooting death of Trayvon Martin by a now exonerated George Zimmerman.

We have all seen for ourselves the profound impact the case has had on our society, particularly as it pertains to race relations. But why?

Zimmerman himself was not white, but Latino and black. He was also not obviously a racist, having had black business partners, had dated black women, had black foster-siblings whom he was raised with, and even attacked police defending a black homeless man. Nevertheless, this case has become a lightning-rod for racial hatred, even though it doesn't seem to make any sense, having nothing to do with the case.

We are also talking about a case that at any other time probably would have never even made it into the spotlight of major media networks. This is not to make light of a person being shot and killed, but all in all, this case was fairly mundane from a news standpoint. There were no especially outstanding facts in this case to garner the media attention it wound up getting. It's a sad fact of life in the world and in America, that people are killed everyday, often under circumstances more clearly heinous than anything we saw in this case. People get shot, killed, trials are held, people go to prison, others are found-not guilty, and the wheels of justice keep on clicking along the tracks.

So again we have to ask why, why has this case been made such a national spectacle, when we have much more important things to worry about?

Was the media itself to blame, for blowing this case entirely out of proportion? Were they responsible for whipping up racial hatred, of spinning the reporting in that direction even though there was no actual racist element to the case? Were there even bigger powers, bigger agendas behind the reporting? Was there an actual conspiracy to deliberately sow division among Americans, and distract us from the very real problems we are facing as a nation and as a society?

As we already see, it doesn't really make much sense for this case to have been given the attention it has. But just because it doesn't make sense to us, in the moment, when you really stop and think about it, you can bet that someone, somewhere has gone to a lot of trouble to make this case explode across the networks. It makes perfect sense to whatever cabal is behind the manipulation of our social consciousness.

A lot of people have pointed out the the family of Trayvon Martin themselves were behind the push to draw the media spotlight onto their son's death. But how were they so successful, when there are thousands of other families out there looking for justice for their loved ones too, on any given day?

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Tracy Martin, Trayvon's father, is a high ranking member in fraternal orders with ties to secret-societies. This is not a theory, this is true information, to make of it as you will.

So, perhaps this made him well-enough connected to those in power in order to open the spotlight of the national and even international media attention onto the shooting death of his son. Others have theorized that the entire case was a conspiracy from the start, to do exactly what it has done, to divide and distract the American people. The secret societies engineered the whole case right from the start, and that Tracy Martin himself might have actually been in charge of the whole plot. But would he actually sacrifice his own son in order to further the agenda of some elite seciet society he was a part of? It's possible. Heck, even in the mafia family have sacrificed family to further the goals of their nefarious organizations. But what if there never was a Trayvon Martin at all? That would make it much easier, to sacrifice a son you never had.

It might also explain why Trayvon's criminality doesn't actually appear in any official police reports. A point that was not raised in the videos above. He was caught vandalizing property, caught with drugs, and caught with a backpack full of stolen women's jewelry and burglar tools, but none of that ever made it onto an actual police report. The excuse was that his school covered it up, but maybe the cover up itself was actually fabricated to add depth the the identity of a false character who never existed in the first place, except on the stage of propaganda.

All in all, I can't say that I do or don't actually believe it. But it makes for a compelling theory anyway.

Supplemental:

(Thanks to Black H@t of LOP)

The creator of this video also believes the Trayvon Marticn case is a hoax, not to bring about race war, but to further the agenda of those seeking to undermine the 2nd Amendment.

Gunplay in Florida

While I happen to agree with the Zimmerman verdict, it certainly does seems like Florida has some serious problems in their justice system.

Take the following case for example.

Fla. mom gets 20 years for firing warning shots

A woman has just been sent to prison for 20 years. A mandatory sentence under Florida law apparently, for a conviction of attempted murder (with a firearm). What I don't understand is how she was convicted in the first place. Now understand first, that Florida is a "stand your ground" state, which means that you are not obligated to retreat in the face of a threat. This is different than here in my home state of NY, where you are not allowed to use deadly force against an attacker if it is possible for you to retreat out of the way of danger. But even in New York, you are allowed to use deadly force in your own home against an intruder under many circumstances.

This woman was in her own home, and shooting at her estranged husband whom she claimed had done violence to her in the past. She also had a court order of protection against him, so clearly he was indeed an intruder in her home. Unless of course they could somehow prove that she lured him there, but I did not see where any such evidence was presented.

This is what the law reads in my home state of NY:

S 35.15 Justification; use of physical force in defense of a person.
...
2. A person may not use deadly physical force upon another person
under circumstances specified in subdivision one unless:
  (a) The actor reasonably believes that such other person is using or
about to use deadly physical force. Even in such case, however, the
actor may not use deadly physical force if he or she knows that with
complete personal safety, to oneself and others he or she may avoid the
necessity of so doing by retreating; except that the actor is under no
duty to retreat if he or she is:
  (i) in his or her dwelling and not the initial aggressor; or
(ii) a police officer or peace officer or a person assisting a police
officer or a peace officer at the latter`s direction, acting pursuant to
section 35.30; or
  (b) He or she reasonably believes that such other person is committing
or attempting to commit a kidnapping, forcible rape, forcible criminal
sexual act or robbery; or
  (c) He or she reasonably believes that such other person is committing
or attempting to commit a burglary, and the circumstances are such that
the use of deadly physical force is authorized by subdivision three of
section 35.20.

 http://ypdcrime.com/penal.law/article35.htm?zoom_highlight=deadly+force

Again, this is not Florida law, but I have trouble believing that that in a "stand your ground" state the law could be any less favorable to a person defending themselves in their own home. Then again, I could be wrong I suppose, as there have been other strange exceptions in the past. Yet again in this case too we see the mandatory sentencing rule being an outright miscarriage of justice.

Second Amendment vs Mandatory Sentencing

In a nutshell, that man was sent to prison for 20 years for firing a gun at a teenager who was in his home, beating on his daughter, destroying the home, and then lunged at him.

UPDATE:

I have just gotten new info that upsets the apple cart here. Just as this article was going to press, I found out that the women went out to her car, and then went back inside to shoot at her husband. This made her the aggressor. In some instances she might have still been able to use deadly force, at least under NYS law, if she could prove that he was attempting to commit arson, as an example, but that does not appear to be the case in this instance.

I will go ahead and publish this article anyway, as an example of how one key bit of evidence can throw a monkey-wrench in the works and completely change the profile of a case. This is also a great example of how the media plays to people's emotions and manipulates the facts.

US Army Cyber Command Blocks Access to NSA Spy Story

The United States Army is now blocking access to portions of the Guardian news website covering leaked information about the National Security Agency's domestic spying program.

The Guardian first broke the story of the NSA's pervasive program to monitor and record virtually all digital communications within the United States including emails and social media through networks like Google, Facebook, and Verizon. The alarming news of the government agency's blatant disregard for the Constitution and liberty was brought to their attention by whistleblower Michael Snowden, a former NSA contractor who has since been charged with espionage by the U.S. government and is on the run across the globe.

The Monterey Herald reports:
Gordon Van Vleet, an Arizona-based spokesman for the Army Network Enterprise Technology Command, or NETCOM, said in an email the Army is filtering "some access to press coverage and online content about the NSA leaks."

He wrote it is routine for the Department of Defense to take preventative "network hygiene" measures to mitigate unauthorized disclosures of classified information.
NETCOM is a subordinate of the US Army Cyber Command

This measure could be termed as a psychological operation, designed to leave American troops less informed than the general public, and ignorant of the crimes perpetrated by the same government which these troops fight and die in the name of. This is not simply a question of troop morale though, and cuts right to the heart of the core virtues of serving the government in a military capacity and leaves these troops open to allegations of complicity in crimes perpetrated by the government.

The Army has elevated the game another level, by threatening troops who access the classified information made public by the Guardian. The Presidio in San Francisco, information assurance security officer Jose Campos dispatched an email to employees warning of consequences for the troops.
He wrote that an employee who downloads classified information could face disciplinary action if found to have knowingly downloaded the material on an unclassified computer.
In other words, any soldier who downloads the publicly available information could be viewed as a spy, and charged criminally. Not only is this a serious implication for servicemembers, but the public in general, that the government still views this material as classified.

Could any one of us also be charged with espionage, even treason, for downloading the information on the NSA's program to spy on citizens? Website operators operating withing the U.S. could be particularly vulnerable to charges of espionage if they were to upload mirror images of the information.

In the worst of ranting conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, "There's a war on for your mind."

You can read the classified documents at the following link, if you dare.

East Coast Tsunami Media Blackout

TSUNAMI of 13 June, 2013 (Northwestern Atlantic Ocean)

Tsunami-like waves were observed along the US east coast during the afternoon of June 13, 2013 (day 164). The source is complex and still under review, though the coincidence at several gages with strong atmospheric pressure fluctuations indicate that it is at least partly generated by meteorological causes. The event occurred in close conjunction with a weather system labeled by the National Weather Service as a low-end derecho which propagated from west to east over the New Jersey shore just before the tsunami. It is also possible that the slumping at the continental shelf east of New Jersey played a role. The tsunami was observed at over 30 tide gages and one DART buoy throughout the Northwestern Atlantic Ocean.
A first-hand description was provided by Brian Coen who observed the event at Barnegat Inlet in New Jersey:
Around 3:30pm on Thursday June 13, 2013, Brian Coen was spear fishing near the mouth of Barnegat Inlet; just south of the submerged northern breakwater. Earlier in the day around noon, thunderstorms had moved through the area. By 3:30pm the weather was overcast with a light east wind. At approximately 3:30, the outgoing tide was amplified by strong currents which carried divers over the submerged breakwater (normally 3-4 feet deep). This strong outrush continued for 1-2 minutes and eventually the rocks in the submerged breakwater were exposed. Brian backed his boat out before being sucked over as well.

At this point, Brian noticed a large wave coming in, approximately 6 feet peak-to-trough and spanning across the inlet. The upper 2 feet of the wave was breaking. This wave occurred in conjunction with a reversal of the current such that even though the tide was going out, a strong surge was entering the inlet. This surge carried the divers back over the submerged reef and into the inlet from where they were picked up. On the south jetty three people were swept off the rocks which were 5 to 6 feet above sea level at the time. At least two were injured requiring medical treatment. There was no more strong activity after about 5 minutes.
This event produced a tsunami that was recorded at tide gages monitored by the West Coast/Alaska Tsunami Warning Center (WCATWC). Many observatories provide data to the centers; such as the NOAA National Ocean Service, the U. of Hawaii Sea Level Center, the Chilean Navy, the Japan Meteorological Ageny and the National Tidal Facility in Australia among others. Click on the site name to see a graph of the tsunami, when available. Listed wave heights are maximum amplitude in cm (above sea level). Observed Arrival time is the actual tsunami arrival time in UTC on gages where it could be determined. The Sample Interval column shows the time between data samples.

Teen Could Get 20 Years For Facebook Rap

18 year-old aspiring rapper Cameron D'Ambrosio, aka "Cammy Dee" is being held without bail on a felony charge of Communicating a Terrorist Threat. The charge could keep him in the slammer for the next 20 years.

According to Joe Solomon, local Chief of Police in the Boston suburb of Methuen, “He posted a threat in the form of rap where he mentioned the White House, the Boston Marathon bombing, and said ‘everybody you will see what I am going to do, kill people.”

What the teen actually said was, "Ya’ll want me to [expletive] kill somebody?” and “[expletive] a Boston bombing wait till you see the [expletive] I do. I’m a be famous rapping, and beat every murder charge that comes across me!" according to he Boston Globe

Asking a question is the opposite of making a statement. He never said he was going to kill people. He asked if  "y'all" wanted him to, he didn't say he would or planned to. He then warns "wait tll you see" what he is going to do, and suggests he is going to make an impression bigger than the Boston bombing, but in the very next sentence tell us he is going to "be famous rapping" along with beating some murder charges, like any rapper with so-called street-cred must do.

Art and lyrics can often be interpreted a number of ways, but rather than interpreting these lyrics as a threat of terrorism, they could actually be interpreted as just the opposite. "F*** a Boston bombing" sounds like a rejection of that sort of violence, and that he prefers to make his impression by being a famous rapper, even if he has to beat a few false charges of murder along the way.

However one chooses to interpret it though, it hardly seems reasonable to see these lyrics as anything more than teenage angst, metaphor, and more importantly, Constitutionally protected free speech. After all, the Chief of police even tells us himself...

“I do want to make clear he did not make a specific threat against the school or any particular individuals..."

...but then goes on to state his own opinion as fact, that the teen threatened "to kill a bunch of people" when he did not actually do so. Granted, it could be interpreted that way perhaps. Then again, this might be a little more direct...

How I Could Just Kill A Man - Cypress Hill

Okay, so Cammy Dee mentions the White House, and the Boston Bombing. He also says "F--- Obama and F--- the government," according to reports. The freedom of speech is there, if for no other reason, but to protect our right as citizens to express dissatisfaction with the government if they come to be servants of opression and tyranny, and to keep government acting honestly in the interest of the people who they are meant to represent.
"In those wretched countries where a man cannot call his tongue his own, he can scarce call anything his own. Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech... Without Freedom of Thought there can be no such Thing as Wisdom; and no such Thing as Public Liberty, without Freedom of Speech." -Benjamin Franklin

Besides, it's hardly as if Cammy Dee is the first rapper to bash the government or a President. Check out this jam, also on YouTube:

Bin Laden Didn't Blow Up The Projects - Immortal Technique (feat. Mos Def)

Nevertheless, the mainstream media have jumped on this case to demonize the teen rapper for his free expression. One might expect that the press, even more than any group in America, would be keen to defend the freedom of speech. After all, this liberty is the very basis of their existence, in theory anyway. Corporate news sources and their subsidiaries have been quick to demonize this young man over his rap metaphors, while spinning propaganda to make freedom appear to be the work of villains.

Corporate media and propagandists have an arsenal of manipulation techniques to mold the thoughts of their viewers. The tricks are usually so subtle that the average person doesn't even notice, after all, that really is the point when it comes to brainwashing. Have a look at this one minor example.

The media printed: "(Expletive) a boston bominb wait till u see the (expletive) I do, I’ma be famous"

The actual line is: "(Expletive) a boston bominb wait till u see the (expletive) I do, I’ma be famous rapping"

One simple word changes the entire meaning of what you read in a headline. Another example of leaving things out to make you think a certain way, is when the media reported that many of the pictures Cammy Dee posted on Facebook were so terrible that they couldn't show them on TV. They did describe the pictures though, reporting that they included hings like a "wanted dead or alive" poster of himself, obscenity,  and satanic imagery.

Well, we are not afraid to show those pictures here. After all, this is why people choose underground media sources like this one. We the underfunded independent media broadcasting from basements, public libraries, and Barnes & Noble cafes are not afraid of controversy. We will go out on a limb here now, and show you this disturbing imagery.

"Outlaw"
And we will just pretend that media outlets like FOX didn't play images of gore, blood, mutilated and missing limbs, on a perpetual loop day after day without so much as a warning to keep children from seeing it. No warning even for adults to have a moment to prepare for what we were about to see. No, the shock value was a part of the media campaign, and within moments after the bombs went off in Boston, we were bombarded with these horrible images of the carnage. But they can't show you some kid on a photoshopped wanted poster, or a picture that looks like it was lifted from a crappy 80's heavy-metal album cover.

Another media source reported that the teen's Facebook page showed he has "unusual interest in gangs, violence and a criminal lifestyle."
"Satan Rulez"

Unusual? Maybe someone missed the last quarter-century or they just forgot that before Ice-T was a TV detective, he was the Original Gangster of free speech, that DMX got the white bitches sayin's it a black thang, and that Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthin' Ta F Wit'. White kids from the suburbs have been emulating rap culture since Ice Cube was Jackin' For Beats and Cypress Hill effed up his good day.

It could be said that perhaps people should not be emulating rap-music culture. Some might argue that it has been morally destructive to the fabric of our society. But it is never popular ideas that need to be protected, and rap music has been there to remind us of that. Even if it serves no other purpose than to offend, it still cries out "we are free to say what we please."

Have we come to the point where morality can be put on trial? Let's not forget here too, that ideas like speaking against the King were once considered a crime, that it was once immoral for a black and whites to have physical relations, and that even elevator Jazz was once considered to be the devil's music.

It's also possible that this young guy might have been having a problem, and used his rap lyrics as a veiled cry for help, or at least an expression of a seething anger festering inside of him. It certainly appears as if he has reason to be angry, very angry. There are a lot of things going wrong in our society, a lot of things that are wrong with our government too. People should be angry. Angry at things like seeing a teenager facing more time in prison than he has spent on this Earth, for the "crime" of expressing himself. Rather than sending him to face a life-ruining felony, perhaps justice and morality would have been better served if a police officer put the young man in contact with a mental health counselor, rather than putting him through an ordeal like this. An ordeal that is sure to have a permanent impact on his life, and which is sure to have a strong influence in defining the old man this young man turns out to be.

This is also a defining point for America, for our society, for the liberty prescribed by the Founding Fathers of this nation. Or perhaps another defining point, would more accurately describe it, as the assaults against our Constitution seem relentless now, particularly against free speech.

Propaganda, Psychological Warfare, and The War For Your Mind In Wake of Boston Bombing

I have recently had the privilege of having some of my material featured on CopBlock.org. It has been quite interesting, though also quite disheartening, to see the vicious attacks that have been made on me by visitors to the comments sections of various articles posted there. Not only attacks on my works which are, of course, always open to debate and discussion, but on myself personally. Now keep in mind, that my person is irrelevant to the issues at hand. I am a relatively anonymous internet persona, that has little bearing on the material I present. I am really just the messenger, so to speak. And I am not singing the blues over hurt feelings either. What actually disturbs me is the frequency in which ad hominem fallacy is applied in order to deflect from the real issues presented, simply in order to derail the discussion. Ad hominem is not the only tactic either though, used to distract the reader from the truth. It is disheartening to see who can be made to follow a red herring path of emotional appeal and rhetoric into the forest of lies, rather than simply seeing the truth for what it is.

How does one discredit truth and fact? One uses logical fallacy, rhetoric, disinformation, and the tools of psychological warfare. As much as I might find myself annoyed by shills, liars and propagandists, this introduction is more of an invitation, for you the reader, to see if you can spot the characters and tactics that are being used to brainwash you. Have a look at the sorts of comments that get made there at CopBlock, which is a noble, even if controversial organization for truth. The shills that come crawling out of the woodwork to distract the readers from seeing the truth. And of course have a gander at the following piece, which clearly shows that there is a very real movement of ignorance in this country that is bent on destroying truth in the public eye.

Have you broken free yet, can you break free, can you remain intellectually honest with yourself in the face of psychological warfare?

Propaganda, Psychological Warfare, and The War For Your Mind In Wake of Boston Bombing

Just after the bombing occurred, alternate media source InfoWars.com dispatched a reporter to see what he could uncover, and to ask some tough questions. This is the sort of reporting and investigative journalism that we could never expect from mainstream corporate media sources today. To the contrary, regular news sources have already been caught in a number of lies, spreading untruths and disinformation, ignoring pertinent facts, and in general trying very hard to paint a particular picture about the terrible event.

Of course, this is not a complete endorsement either, of Alex Jones, his InfoWars network, or any alternate media source in general. The idea here is for people to judge for themselves, to exercise critical thinking, and to have as many genuine facts at their disposal as possible. But to that end, it certainly appears that alternate media sources have become our only reliable source of open information.

Dan Bidonbi, reporting for Infowars, was there for the initial press conferences.

Inside Boston Marathon Bombing Press Conferences (VIDEO LINK)

Just looking at that video alone, it would be easy to write off the reporter as another one of those "wacko conspiracy nuts." Sadly though, his question was probably the single most important question asked during that press conference, and it went unanswered. It is not conspiracy theory that the police were conducting a so-called drill when these bombs went off. It is not conspiracy theory they were telling people before, and even after bombs had actually gone off, that it was just an exercise.

University of Mobile’s Cross Country Coach is just one of many witnesses who has come forward to corroborate this account. Before the bombs went off, he was concerned by bomb-sniffing dogs, rooftop snipers, and intense police activity.
“It seemed like there was some sort of threat, but they kept telling us it was just a drill... They kept making announcements on the loud speaker that it was just a drill and there was nothing to worry about.” -Coach Ali Stevenson (SOURCE)

Witnesses at the scene are not the only source of information though. While the mainstream media can be a very unreliable source of information, they also make mistakes by reporting actual facts from time to time. Inconvenient facts, that do not fit the ongoing "script" and will therefore never be reported on again, except in the underground media who happened to pick up that information before it got scrubbed entirely from the internet.

Of course we must also understand that not all false reports by the media are necessarily deliberate. In any unfolding events there will be chaos, conflicting reports, and so forth. On the other hand, there are some things that would never be reported at all, unless there was a reason. Reporting that police were conducting a drill that involved a controlled explosion is one such example. Again, keep in mind, that this was reported before the bombs actually went off. So the Boston Globe cannot simply dismiss their reports as being an error because of confusion after the blasts went off.

Strong Evidence 'Drill' Was Cover For Actual Bombing In Boston

So we see from all of this that the questions posed by InfoWars reporter Dan Bidonbi were not at all the product of lunacy, or some hidden agenda to discredit authorities simply for the sake of discrediting authorities. The questions were completely legitimate, should have been answered, and yet still have not been answered.

Despite the most comprehensive, invasive, violent, and Constitutionally offensive manhunt ever conducted on American soil, police actually failed to find "Suspect #2" Dzhokar Tsarnaev after his alleged shootout with police some 20 hours earlier. Instead, he was found by a civilian homeowner who went out to check on his boat after the declaration of martial law had been lifted, and found the suspect laying inside. And despite the fact that the suspect was not armed, police opened fire on him with high power weapons.

Thanks to Dan Bidonbi reporting for InfoWars, we have learned now that even though police didn't bother to check the boat, they had ripped through the rest of the neighborhood with menacing threat of force, and even stormed through the house right across the street from where the suspect was eventually found. Be sure to check out those video interviews at the following link:

Boston Gestapo Victims Speak Out

So there we see that Mr. Bidonbi is conducting real interviews, with real people in that community who were directly affected by all that unfolded there. The interviews are rather lengthy, and not edited to cherry pick small soundbites to be broadcast for propaganda value. In fact, some of what was said there by the folks he interviewed does not fit in line with other InfoWars reports or the consensus of conspiracy theorists.

One such contradiction is that a person who is interviewed there by Bidonbi says that he saw Dzhokar run over his brother Tamerlan, who was laying in the street at police gunpoint. This actually conflicts with other witness statements who claim it was the police ran over the suspect in the street. But those statements also conflict with the assessment of a doctor, who says that the suspect was not run over at all.

But again, this is what the news is supposed to be. An open funnel of information, uncut and in the raw. From all of these reports then, we can assess for ourselves, and extrapolate whatever truth is there to be found.

But this sort of reporting is dangerous. Dangerous to the real conspirators and their hidden agendas, whatever those agendas might be, dangerous to mainstream media who are being undermined and made fools of by true journalism, but perhaps most of all, dangerous to people like Dan Bidonbi who have the courage to bring you this information.

Given all that is at stake here, the entire public perception of the Boston bombing, of the war on terror, of our own government, it is not surprising at all that certain powers-that-be would finally engage in direct psychological warfare. Alex Jones and his networks can no longer just be written off as lunacy. More and more people are taking these things seriously. More and more people are waking up that we, as a society, have been duped by our government, by the media. More and more people want answers, and accountability. More and more people are waking up to the fact that our once great nation have been stolen out from under us. More and more people want to take this country back.

But how do to the powers-that-be undermine the alternative media? How can the liars put the rustling sheep back to sleep, even with wolves scratching at the door? How can the liars discredit the seekers of truth? The answer is, to engage someone like Dan Bidonbi, directly. Make it appear as if the attack is spontaneous. Make it appear as though it is just an average person, a "one of us" sort of person, a "real patriot" who "loves" America who is utterly offended by the mere presence of someone like Dan Bidonbi in his midst. Better yet, shine the spotlight on a "true believer." Someone who has been utterly and completely brainwashed by media propaganda and government rhetoric. Someone who is utterly incapable of even considering inconvenient facts that run contrary to what is "allowed" to be entered into public consciousnesses. A shill, who doesn't even realize that he is a shill.

Enter, Roger Nicholson.

In this first video, we see the first attack. There shouldn't be any need here to explain that this is a free country, that Bidonbi has every right to be there. We will assume readers here have the intellectual wherewithal to be able to see for themselves just how misguided and disgusting this attack really is. Sadly though, there certainly are people out there who will be duped by the ignorant vitriol spewed by the likes of this Nicholson character.

Indeed, the mainstream media is counting on the vast majority of Americans to be swayed by this vulgar level of propaganda. Here you see that MSNBC gives Roger Nicholson airtime simply to bash Alex Jones, and to attract national attention to Nicholson's petty little rant toward an alternate media reporter.

But let's have a closer look now at Roger Nicholson. First, this video shows us that he is not quite just some random guy off the street. He has some connections to the media as well. Perhaps this was the channel through which he was recruited as a minion of the agenda. Bona fide shill or not though, this clip is quite revealing as to his true nature, and the sort of person who the powers-that-be expect us to be like, and to identify with.

Finally, in this last video, Nicholson actually appears on InfoWars as a guest. His murderous, psychotic nature bubbles to the surface again, though not quite as boldly as in the video above. But here we get a deeper look at how contradictory, delusional, utterly and willfully ignorant he actually is.

'Drill' Was In Exact Location of Actual Boston Bombing (VIDEO)

There has been all sorts of material out there calling the bombings an inside job, false-flag attack and so forth. Some say that it was a government operation, or a faction within the government, while others blame the government for simply not warning the people that they had received a credible threat.

This video is not about another theory about exactly who may have done what and why. It is simply clear, straightforward evidence that authorities told the public there was going to be a "controlled" detonation for training purposes in the very spot that the actual bomb went off. See for yourself. Please comment below if you can offer an explanation.

Your Kids Are Not Yours, Says MSNBC Host

It is frightening notions like this which lead to all sorts of abuses by government, particularly in family courts and through child-protective services. In the long-run too, it leads to a complete denial of personal liberty, and rather places the individual as having little more value than a drone. A page right out of the Communist manifesto. -JMV

Local Paper Helps Spread Paranoia and Fear

Now, I am not going to say that people should not be aware of their surroundings and take precautions when something doesn't seem right, but when we have a newspaper raising the public alarm over nothing it's quite telling as to the state of mind the powers-that-be want to instill in society.

Of course, there will be those that say I am just being paranoid, that the mainstream media doesn't actually try to brainwash their customers, but ask yourself something. What makes this first article a truly newsworthy story? People see "suspicious" things every day. What makes this particular story a news event so important as to put the Hudson Valley on alert? The fear of a bald black man, preying on a (presumably white) teenage female student?

Of course, this whole thing is only one little blip on the radar. One minor story that no one will remember, but is still another example of the brainwashing our society undergoes every single day.
Town police investigates suspicious man

The Town of Poughkeepsie police are investigating a complaint of a suspicious male following a female student, police said.

The police received a complaint Tuesday at approximately 4:30 p.m. in the area of Autumn Drive in the Vassar Oaks development.

A teenage female student reported being followed by a bald, black, clean-shaven man in his mid-30s after getting off the school bus. He was driving a newer model, four-door sedan, possibly a Chevrolet, police said.
Police encourages residents to notify authorities if there is a suspicious person or vehicle in their neighborhood. Anyone with information on this case can call police at 845-485-3666 or leave a tip at townpolice.net.

(I don't claim to be some expert on the English language, but you would think that a newspaper would have writers and editors who are. Now maybe I'm wrong here, but that headline doesn't look like proper English. They should have dropped the "s" from "investigates." Town police are a plural, whereas the town police department is a singular. Just nitpicking here of course, but just another example of the fast junk-food flavor our mainstream news sources have taken on.)

All in all though, it was awfully nice of thePoughkeepsie Journal to print a retraction of sorts, with the following blurb.
Suspicious man just practicing for his road test, police say

An earlier report of a suspicious man in the Town of Poughkeepsie has been dropped, police said.

The vehicle was spotted again Monday, but it was revealed the man was a resident practicing for his driving test and no criminal conduct was involved, police said.

The complaint was reported in the Poughkeepsie Journal on Oct. 18.

Technically, the Poughkeepsie Journal, the most widely circulated newspaper in the mid-Hudson region of NY State did only actually report the facts. So there is no issue of libel or anything like that. What we are seeing here is more a matter of ethics, and professionalism. Why would such a mundane police report be elevated, by this newspaper, to the level of a public broadcast alert? Especially considering the resolution of the police investigation.

Not to mention the fact that some poor guy who was just out there practicing for his driving test wound up being the target of an intense police investigation.

Is it any wonder that a black man often says things like "Damn, can't a brotha even drive down the street without being harassed by the po-po?!"

This dude didn't do anything wrong, just out there using a public street like everyone out there has the right to do. And suddenly he is the target of a police investigation and general insinuations by a major newspaper.

I hate to throw the race card out there, because there are an awful lot of white folk who are targeted for bullshit reasons too. But damn, can't a brotha ever catch a break?

Book Burning in the Digital Age... It Has Begun

A few years ago I wrote an article for another blog that I worked for, and it generated quite a lot of discussion across forums and other blogs. Unfortunately, a lot of the blogs and websites that copied my entire piece verbatim did not have the decency to even give credit where credit was due, by at least dropping a link to the original source. Pretty shitty thing to do really. But I didn't sue anyone over it. Sure, I lost money over it. (Money that a person on food stamps could probably use to feed his family a little better.) But what really pisses me off more than anything is the fact that a person can be of such wretched moral character that they would take credit for many hours, even days of work, that someone else has put into a written article. But like I said, I still didn't sue anyone over it.

So it is within that context, that I am going to present that original piece once again as it has, unfortunately, resurfaced as relevant in the ongoing battle of the freedom of speech.

In this PROPERLY ATTRIBUTED EXCERPT, you can see how the issue has suddenly resurfaced, before going on to read my well received and circulated article just below.

Textbook Publisher Pearson Takes Down 1.5 Million Teacher And Student Blogs With A Single DMCA Notice

from the 38-year-old-content-in-a-5-year-old-post-equals-1.5-million-dead-blogs dept

If there's one thing we've seen plenty of here at Techdirt, it's the damage a single DMCA takedown notice can do. From shuttering a legitimate ebook lending site to removing negative reviews to destroying a user's Flickr account to knocking a copyright attorney's site offline, the DMCA notice continues to be the go-to weapon for copyright defenders. Collateral damage is simply shrugged at and the notices continue to fly at an ever-increasing pace.

Textbook publisher Pearson set off an unfortunate chain of events with a takedown notice issued aimed at a copy of Beck's Hoplessness Scale posted by a teacher on one of Edublogs' websites (You may recall Pearson from such other related copyright nonsense as
The $180 Art Book With No Pictures and No Free Textbooks Ever!). The end result? Nearly 1.5 million teacher and student blogs taken offline by Edublogs' host, ServerBeach. James Farmer at wpmu.org fills in the details.

And now, our feature presentation, originally hosted by the Mainstream Media Review, in July 2010:

Book Burning in the Digital Age... And So It Begins
by J.Marselus VanWagner

The battle of the copyright is a long and sordid tale on the internet. Most folks are familiar with the old days of Napster, and the record companies suing the pants off of soccer-Moms because their kids had downloaded songs to the family computer. More recently as technology has continued to advance, we have seen movie companies also come into the fold along with the music companies, often suing to shut down websites that host torrent files of copyrighted material, as well as still going after the individual on occasion. At the end of the day though, most folks aren't overly concerned about those issues. Music and movies are creative expressions and public past-times for the most part, not exactly a priority in this day and age. It all sounds like a lot of hair-splitting over profits that no one really wants to be bothered with. Sure artists are entitled to make money from their work. But at the same time, when someone shells out $20 for a CD that has one good song on it, it's clearly a rip-off scheme by the recording industry too. A big ball of frustration and argument that is best left to the folks who have a vested interest in the fight. The whole debate has just soured many people to listening to music or watching movies at all. Easier just to flip on the radio or the TV and be done with it. Music and movies just aren't much fun as a hobby anymore, which is probably a bigger reason for any perceived loss of revenue for these big companies than anything else. Some folks have just decided to grow up faster than we would have liked to, wistfully leaving pop-culture behind to focus on more important issues. Like freedom of speech, perhaps.

Now anyone who has had contact with American society in the past fifteen years or so has heard all about these copyright lawsuits, and has probably heard the argument that it is all “really about freedom of speech.” Most of us never really bought into that though. It wasn't really about freedom of speech so much as buying a cable modem and ripping enough tracks to make a mix disc for the weekend, and to make it worth the money you were shelling out for the broadband connection. But as it turns out, these freedom-loving pirate pioneers might have had more insight than most of us ever gave them credit for. It's not just about ripping a free copy of some crappy pop jam anymore. The debates over sharing content over the internet are no longer the frontier of internet free-speech. The goalposts have been on the move it seems.

In 1993 there were about 50 corporations that controlled just about all of the media in the United States. Newspapers, magazines, radio, television, the works. By 2004, we were down to only five corporations controlling it all. Since the collapse of United Press International, the Associated Press has been the one and only national news service in the United States. This means that just about all the news you see is filtered through this one single company. Even local news from your home town is partially owned by the AP, as part of their agreement with smaller news agencies that make up their network. If there is a big enough story in your hometown, it gets handed up to the AP and sent out across the wires to be picked up by every other news agency across the country, as an AP article, not usually even giving a mention of your local hometown newspaper or reporter that broke the story. But in return, these smaller news agencies get to print other AP news, which accounts for just about anything that is being reported on any given day. This gives the AP a huge amount of leverage over how news gets reported, even if it does not originate with them. No news agency would dare defy the AP, and risk losing their agreement to print just about anything that is being considered news. It would be business suicide. The mainstream media in America is a network dominated by the AP. Not exactly an ideal arrangement for the promise of free speech. There was a time that we as freedom-loving Americans saw a singular state-controlled media as the hallmark of an evil totalitarian Communist regime, but would it really be any better to have a single corporation reporting all of the news rather than the state? Hardly. That would simply make it the hallmark of a Fascist totalitarian state rather then a Communist one. You see, Communism is what you get when the government controls business. Fascism is what you get when business controls government. In a nutshell anyway.

Thanks to technology, we still have a bastion of free speech with the internet. Even while your average American is content to sit back and zone out to regurgitated tabloid news, for many of us, the internet is as enlightening as it can be frustrating and confusing, navigating the back corridors of truth. The news here is not pre-packaged and heated in the microwave. It is raw, and requires critical thinking, cleverness, memory. In short, here you have to stop and think. If the truth is handed to you on a silver platter, it just might not be the truth, just like that might not be beef in that fast food taco. It's a shame that more folks aren't interested to look a little deeper into things, and are content to take the half-truths of the mainstream media as a complete source of important information. But at least the rest of us have the internet, this beacon of liberty and free speech. Well, for the moment anyway. It seems that our days may be numbered, and dwindling fast now.

Back in the summer of 2008, the Associated Press, a monolithic news agency with a litigious history decided it was going to set the precedent for how their material was disseminated across the internet, by issuing Digital Millennium Copyright Act takedown notices to bloggers and news aggregators they claimed were violating their copyright and additionally were accused of “hot news” misappropriation under New York State law. They had already slapped two companies with copyright lawsuits not long before, one in Florida. In essence, this was the beginning of the AP trying to force the entire U.S.-based internet to become another one of their subsidiaries under licensing agreement.

Now to really understand this, we need to have a look at what is called the “fair use” act. What it tells us first is that copyrighted material can be used without permission, for such purposes as “criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.” Seems quite reasonable, but too bad it's not quite that simple. You see, there really are no set guidelines. Even from that list there can be any number of exceptions based on the nature of the copyright work, potential profits from someone who is citing the work, and so forth. It is all so completely ambiguous that they might just as well have said, “Use whatever you want at your own risk because it's all up to the judge anyway.” That's really no exaggeration. Rulings in one case will not necessarily be used as a precedent in the next, particularly in civil suits, though copyright violation can be a criminal matter as well. There are no set standards for selected content, length or proportions of quotations, or potential market impact. Nevertheless, it has still been used as a general guideline for everyone from internet bloggers to public school teachers. An example might be the playing of a movie in the auditorium of a public school for students. It may not be considered a violation of copyright because it is being used for educational purposes. But if that same movie were to be played in an auditorium full of families at the ice-cream social gathering where goodies were being sold to raise money for a field trip, that could very well indeed be ruled as a liability through public dissemination of copyrighted material. Many restaurants can no longer sing the “Happy Birthday” song to patrons on their special day because of the threat of copyright lawsuits.

Across the internet though, it has been generally understood by bloggers and members of discussion forums and so forth, that news reports are not treated with the same level of copyright scrutiny as other media such as movies and music. After all, news is a relatively public matter anyway. Granted, reporters work hard often risking life and limb to get their stories, other staff all do their jobs, the news agencies have their expenses and financial obligations to investors, but at the end of the day the events they are reporting on are public events that they are willfully sharing with the greater public. In print they share it with the public for pocket change, but on their own internet sites they even share the news for free, and quite often encourage viewers to share it on networking tools such as Twitter or an RSS feed. The profitability in news reporting is not in the news itself, but in advertising revenues from companies who know that people will see their ad when they come to find out the news of the day, whether it be in print, over the airwaves, or over the internet. So really, it is in the best interest of any news agency to get the news out there as far and wide as possible, so long as they are referenced in some way. Let's not forget the old adage “there's no such thing as bad press.”

Copying and pasting an entire article may be seen as not really acting in good faith on the part of the blogger, but so long as it is properly attributed, it really should not be of serious concern to a news company. It's not really going to cost them anything. No one is going to decide that they would rather see their mainstream search engine news in some backwater blog day after day where the articles may be missing pictures, related links, and be generally mutilated in a hack paste job. Most folks will want to go right to the source, and see a copy/paste job merely as reference for discussion. Adding a link to any pasted article is certain to drive traffic back to the original news site, with folks who might never have even bothered to check the day's news otherwise. When most internet users post these articles, they are not posting it to circumvent the original news services and are not claiming the articles as their own original material, they are posting for the purposes of discussion, not plagiarism. Whether it be to critique the report itself, the news source overall, or as a general discussion related to the news being reported, the news article itself still becomes secondary to our own expression of free-speech. In this way we see that even a fully copied article could be seen as fair use, as a reference in these discussions.

So understanding all of this, one really has to ask, what was really behind the aggression of the AP against bloggers and other websites? Especially when you have a look at some of the specific instances they had issued the DMCA notices for. Many did not even copy the same headline, all of them contained links back to the original AP source, and none of them were even full posts of the article. They were merely snippets of the article, with a link back to the original complete article. You would think that the AP would be thanking them, not trying to sue them. You can see that down in the corner here of the MSMReview we even have a host-provided widget installed that runs an AP headline ticker. Is that something that we can be sued for? Could we be sued if we posted those same headlines without the widget?

By the end of 2008 it appears that the AP decided to back off a bit, and admitted that they might have been being a bit heavy-handed in the protection of their media. But one really has to wonder what set them on in the first place to such an ill-conceived venture. The only potential loss of revenue might have come from the fact that many news outlets in their network will pull an article after a bit of time, and then charge a fee for retrieval from an archive. In this way, a blog or forum could be seen as archiving these stories and undermining a very minor potential source of revenue. How often do folks actually go ahead and pay for an article for which the link is no longer active for, and especially in comparison to the potential for referral traffic generated by articles posted outside of the original site? Moreover, do they charge your local library a fee for making old newspapers available to the public after the articles have been pulled from the website? Granted, the library already paid 50-cents for a copy of the paper, but if that token amount were really the issue, then why do they not charge to read the headlines on their own websites and the large search engine hosts?

It just doesn't make sense, there is something missing from this picture still. Now we come to more recent news. It seems that other news sources are now hiring outside companies to do their dirty work for them, having a go at the bloggers and forums this summer in a similar manner that the AP did back in 2008, but on a much wider scale, and even more aggressively this time. Are they really so desperate for quick profits that they are willing to cut off their noses just to spite their faces? Are they really willing to alienate readers, and in turn their advertising clients, to scrape a few bucks away from bloggers? Was the whole AP fiasco just a “testing of the water” to to gauge reaction to an assault on free speech?

Steve Gibson, CEO of Las Vegas-based Righthaven has been buying up newspaper copyrights for the sole purpose of scouring the web to find and then sue anyone who has posted material without permission. He is able to compel quick settlements based on the fact that even a single violation can be a penalty of $150,000. Righthaven already has hundreds of lawsuits in the works, but estimates that there may be billions of violations. That will not doubt put any nickel and dime blogs and web sites right out of business. Many blogs and forums that could be seen as a profit company because of ad placement through services such as AdSense, really are not actually profitable at all, and are generally operated for reasons other than profit, such as practicing free speech and engaging their fellow human beings in discussion on current events via the internet. But even for larger sites, the threat is potent, seeing how much they stand to lose for even a single violation if they fight it in court then lose. One large internet forum that generates about 5 million hits a month with their user-generated discussion forum on alternative topics has decided to fight the lawsuit on the grounds that the site itself did not actually post the material, but that a forum user did, and therefore rather than file a lawsuit Righthaven should have served the site with a DMCA takedown notice. So in this case, we see that this company operating on behalf of the Las Vegas Review-Journal has actually gone well beyond what the AP did two summers ago. They aren't even bothering with take-down notices, they are going straight for the lawsuit. It is also interesting to note that this representative of the media has gone after one of the largest alternative subject matter forums on the internet, where open-minded free-thinking is highly valued (even if critically scrutinized.)

In another case, one of the above-mentioned forum's primary competitors has also been the subject of an action by a company representing Reuters news service, the AP of the British-influenced world. Again coming under fire is a forum on alternative subject matter where open-minded free-thinking is courted (even if dreadfully manipulated.) That case is part of a campaign launched in March by California-based Attributor with their FairShare Guardian model. In one 30-day scan with this new model, they found 75,000 sites with copies of un-licensed articles. Rather than suing them in court, Attributor offers discussion on syndication, in which they can pretty much demand any price they want for the syndication rights from the alleged violator. If negotiations fail, they will contact ad agencies doing business with the site. In the case of the specific site mentioned here already, the ad agencies did indeed pull their ads, the site's primary revenue stream for covering operating costs. Attributor also notifies search engines and web hosts, who are obligated under the DMCA to take down material they know to be in violation. So in essence, these forums are forced to pay the licensing fee for what might otherwise be considered fair-use, or be shut down entirely.

Now we finally see a pattern emerging. First, the somewhat failed attempt by AP to shutter blogs and websites that they had zeroed in on for whatever reason. Now we see on one hand a venture to force settlements that will likely shut down many thousands of blogs and websites. And on the other hand, we see due-process completely circumvented by a company demanding what can be assumed to be exorbitant licensing fees, and also sure to shut down thousands, even hundreds of thousands of websites. But can all this really be seen as a measure to protect profits? Certainly not when you consider that these blogs and websites are what drive traffic to these news sources in the first place. So then, this really isn't about profits so much as consolidation. One doesn't need a hundred-thousand blogs directing traffic to a few news sites, if a huge chunk of the web is shut right down entirely, and traffic can be directed through a few select mainstream social networking sites. This is about control, not profits. Controlling what you see, how you see it, and even the discussions you have about it. Bloggers are being forced to report the news under the terms dictated by licensing agreements, and whatever fine print that might entail aside from kicking up a fee as if news reporting were some mafia cartel. That is not free speech. This is about controlling our collective memory by editing and pulling articles and by preventing accessibility to archived copies of original stories floating around on the web. And that folks, is the real heart of the matter. Digital book burning. Remove our collective memory, mold the present, and dictate the future.

Whoa now. Maybe that's a bit of a jump there. A few select very powerful media monopolies shutting down the internet piece by piece? Sounds like a bit of a stretch into conspiracy-theory land there, no? Surely the government would have something to say about this, would step in to defend liberty and the Constitution? We have been like Gunny Hartman in the movie Full Metal Jacket here, rummaging through the unlocked footlocker of internet dirty laundry to “just see if anything's missing here.” And suddenly we find the jelly donut. Or better yet, that something is indeed missing. Something big. Something along the lines of 73,000 blogs shut down in a single day, with the flip of a switch. Here we get a good look at the relationship between business and the government.

On July 9 of this year, Toronto-based Blogetry.com, an internet blogging platform and Wordpress host-provider with approximately 73,000 clients, went dark. Less than a week later, Ipbfree.com, a site used to create web message boards, suddenly went offline. The shutdowns came with no notice, no pending legal action, and no explanation at all for some considerable time. Since then, some information has come out about the shut-down of Blogetry.com, so we are going to focus on that, as the information surrounding the Ipbfree.com seems to be far more scattered and less reliable. It should be noted that no direct correlation between the two events has been confirmed at this point, but there were some interesting similarities between the two events. Both said they were shut down by outside influence and not coming back, that the user-generated content violated no copyright laws, and that those who ordered the closures were legally bound to non-disclosure.

Initial speculation was that the shutdowns were part of a sweep by movie or record companies cracking down on illegal downloads and hosting of related files, with the support of the Obama Administration who has vowed to support the entertainment companies. It was not an unreasonable conclusion to reach, as these shutdowns came right on the heels of a number of scattered seizures by the Department of Justice along with Immigration and Customs Enforcement of assets and websites related to alleged illegal file-sharing, as part of an ongoing initiative called “Operation: In Our Sights.” So there we are back to the beginning of this article, with the “menace of digital piracy” that we have all been hearing about for years. One sure-fire method for Federal agents to conduct a “witch-hunt” by going after alleged pirates.

Other speculation was that perhaps there was child pornography involved. Another fantastic boogie man to get the people all riled up while being the perfect cover for officials to go right ahead and do just about anything they please. Now please understand, MSMR in no way is trying to make light of child pornography, or excuse the activities of deranged persons involved in that garbage in any way, but having to articulate that point goes to show just what a raw nerve there is there in society for the powers that be to poke at when they want to distract us. Even when they yell pedophile, we still have the right, nay, the obligation to question authority. But in cases of illegal file-sharing, and even in cases of illegal pornography, due process must still be applied. No agency has the right to arbitraliy march in and shut down a whole chunk of the internet. There is a lot of legal wrangling that can sometimes go on for years to get a specific website shutdown, much less an entire server of 73,000 clients. The DMCA protects internet service providers from liability of user content, as pointed out in the case mentioned earlier with Righthaven. Not to mention the fact that these sorts of takedowns are usually very public affairs, with publicity being exploited as a deterrent as much as possible.

In these cases, the cloak of secrecy is disturbing to say the least. As it turns out, the owner of Blogetry.com was just as confused as his clients, and tried repeatedly to contact his web-host BurstNet, before their first enigmatic reply. In a message to owner Alexander Yusupov they stated, “We are limited as to the details we can provide to you, but note that this was a critical matter and the only available option to us was to immediately deactivate the server.” In another message they went on to say, “Please note that this was not a typical case, in which suspension and notification would be the norm. This was a critical matter brought to our attention by law enforcement officials. We had to immediately remove the server. “ They refused to give him any more information though, and would not even disclose the law-enforcement agency involved. Nor did they disclose the agency to CNET news, when they were granted an interview with BurstNet VP, Benjamin Arcus. The VP did disclose however, that the service was terminated at the direction of a law-enforcement agency that he could not reveal, and that it was not a copyright issue. So this wasn't about digital pirates after all?

The latest news coming out now is that the secret agency was actually the FBI. BurstNet has also reversed themselves and is now stating that it was their own choice to terminate the server, and that the FBI had nothing to do with the decision. So apparently BurstNet was not in fact restricted to this “only available option” as they had stated, but freely and willingly chose to terminate the server of their own accord, and have tried to justify the unprecedented action by leveling an accusation against Blogetry that there was a history of abuses, though the FBI has not accused Alexander Yusupov of any wrong-doing. What is being reported now is that the bureau had merely requested “voluntary emergency disclosure of information" regarding links to bomb-making instructions and an al-Qaeda hit-list of Americans which appeared on as many as one Blogetry hosted blog. Ah-ha! And there we have another boogie man folks. The ubiquitous yet imaginary al-Qaeda. (You will remember in a previous article here at MSMR where we pointed out that al-Qaeda is actually a government generated fabrication.) Mention al-Qaeda, bomb, or terrorist, and the FBI can instantly shut down 73,000 free-speech platforms without any due-process or oversight whatsoever because of what may have been one single alleged offender. In the post 9/11 era there is nothing “voluntary” about what is expected during an “emergency.” BurstNet has stated that they cannot restore any Blogetry data, even with the offending material removed. All of those blogs are just gone, completely wiped out. Of course we are supposed to believe BurstNet's revised position now, that they did not cave in under pressure by the FBI in the face of some alleged terrorist threat, and that they wiped out 73,000 blogs because of two alleged previous violations of their policies by Blogetry.. It doesn't seem that it really makes much difference anyhow at this point. Either BurstNet threw themselves under the bus, doing irreparable damage to their credibility and the future of their business to cover for the FBI, or they were in fact the ones who decided to pull the plug as they are stating now, making themselves the bane of free-speech advocates around the globe.

When all is said and done, it is now abundantly clear that these companies and government agencies working in concert, have begun dismantling large swaths of the internet this summer, with a three-pronged assault on liberty, through lawsuits, through cutting financing, and through direct action by blocking and terminating access to the internet. Make no mistake about it folks, this is the burning of books in the digital age. The only question is if you are going to accept the excuses ever-ready at the hand despots the world over, and then bow down to the march of the jack-boot, while gleefully chanting the rhetoric that it is all for our safety, all for our children, all for our own good as we spiral down into the pit of totalitarianism. This is it, our last chance, the end game. There is nothing else left for them to take, but these last bastions of free expression and liberty, where the news can be pondered and debated without censorship, where we can collect our memories and look back to them to see what our tomorrow has come to. Do not forget what you have read here today. Remember the burning of the books.

“Where they burn books, they will ultimately also burn people”

~Heinrich Heine
