The Green Horde Is Coming… To An End

June seems to have been a very long month for all the wrong reasons, but one thing that has kept things interesting is the Zombicide: Green Horde Kickstarter. I had announced to Bull when I first heard about it that I was going all-in and would sign up for every optional extra and splash out big time, given that it's a fourth game at the moment. However, after seeing my pledge pass the $300 mark in the first fortnight I decided that I may have been a little hasty and scaled things back. It is only a board game after all, even if it is a very good one.

Having said that, the amount of loot you get for an initial $120 pledge is growing daily and with less that 48 hours before the Kickstarter ends, now is the time to get on board or miss out on the exclusives (of which there is a lot – see image above).

In the last 24 hours we have seen a stretch goal for a Giant survivor smashed, revealing a stretch goal for a Giant zombie! The stretch goals this time around have been a mixed bag I think, but true to form for a Cool Mini Or Not Kickstarter there have been lots of them as the project races towards the familiar $4M mark. Will it beat the last Kickstarter that managed $4.2M? We will see…

New Zombicide – Zombie Sculpts

To compliment the new Heroes, here are the new Green Horde zombie sculpts. I'm find these quite a mixed bag, but am reserving judgement fully until we get to see the final things. 17 days to go till the Kickstarter!

Walker

Runner

Fatty

Abomination

Necromancer

New Zombicide – Hero Sculpts

We have the full set of 3D renders of the Hero models from the upcoming Zombicide: Green Horde Kickstarter. They've gone down the digital route this time it seems – time will tell how they compare to the Black Plague miniatures!

Megan

Johannes

Seli

Rolf

Berin

Asim

It's hard to tell how cool or not these minis are going to be. I'm pretty sure that at the final size they'll look cool and paint up well. Now just have to pick a favourite!

New Zombicide – Zombies

I had a look at the teased artwork for the Zombicide: Green Horde heroes last week and now have the imagery of the related zombies.

WALKER
The things I can see here of significance are firstly the walker seems much bulkier than we're used to and also that it's wearing armour of sorts. Hmmmm…

RUNNER
There was talk of goblins early on in the press releases, and that they appeared in packs, so I wonder if we're going to see a Crow-type base with multiple armoured goblins on it, or just individuals as normal?

FATTY
Ironically this guy seems no different from the regular walker, based on the crop of this illustration. More armour and spikes can't be good for the heroes though!

ABOMINATION
Having dealt with abominatroll and abonina-minotaur recently, I'm struggling to be too intimidated by this new Orc abomination – unless he turns out to be toughness 4 of course!

NECROMANCER
I like the look of this Necromancer. The character Necromancers from the Kickstarter have added a new dimension to the game (I hate you Grinn!) so I'm hoping that this guy is more than just a new sculpt.

So that's everything we've seen so far. Aside from being told that the new zombies are tougher than previously, we don't know much about the new game. In the mean time there's plenty of life left in Black Plague yet!!

New Zombicide – Heroes

Guillotine Games has been drip feeding us with new character art these last couple of weeks, ramping up anticipation for the Kickstarter at the end of May. Yesterday the group of heroes included in the Green Horde box was completed.

ASIM
I don't think we've had a Saracen-esque warrior yet, so I like this departure. It conjures up game ideas based upon the Sinbad adventures.

BERIN
Wearing a wolf's head as a hat, with a nose ring and some kind of emerald axe, Berin appears to be the angry Dwarf of the group. Intrigued to see what his rules will be as he's got some interesting gear.

JOHANNES
This guy looks like a standard human, an imperial type with crossbow and sword. He's meant to be trustworthy and fearless.

MEGAN
My guess is that Megan is the Magic user of the group, given her staff and array of potions. Interestingly she has a bandage over one eye in this illustration, but not in the box cover image at the top of the page.

ROLF
Let's be honest, Rolf is Conan. Brute force with little finesse. I'm guessing a melee monster.

SELI

Seli is my favourite character so far. A skinny tribal elf of some kind, with a funky sword and dagger by the looks of it. This has the potential to be a fantastic model to paint and I'm intrigued to see what skills she has.

So there we have it folks. If things follow the previous release, they're our 6 heroes for the Green Horde box set, with another 4 in the Wulfsburg-style expansion, and who knows what else in the way of stretch goals come Kickstarter time.

I'll have a look at the zombies that have been revealed thus far in the next post. I have to say, how excited am I?!!

Zombicide Green Horde is coming in May!

Those of you who play Zombicide Black Plague may have already heard the news, but I only found out last night after returning from a failed Tuesday Night Gaming quest at Bull's. There is a new Z:BP kickstarter coming at the end of May to launch a new expansion. The Green Horde will include infected Orcs and Goblins.

I am sooooo excited!

This may actually make up for me missing Salute this year, and has certainly become the focal point for the year!

Zombicide: Black Plague… More Goodies!

After a rather lengthy five month wait, the second part of the Kickstarter goodies for Zombicide: Black Plague arrived today.

Another rather large parcel was waiting for me when I got home from work, containing lots of plastic goodness. I won't distract you any more with chat – just take on board what will be arriving on your own doorstep soon (or what you missed out on)!

Those are some enormous miniatures for a board game – that rat ogre thing in particular, and the running troll ogre is ridiculously tall… fantastic!

Dark Souls Kickstarter

Well, it's landed – the new Steamforged Kickstarter and it funded in 3 minutes! That's surely CMoN territory!

Based on the video game series Dark Souls, the board game is playable solo or up to 4 players. It sounds mighty intriguing but at £80 entry point you're going to have to be committed.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/steamforged/dark-soulstm-the-board-game

It has to be said though that there are some amazing miniatures in here – it's very, very tempting but I can't afford a box of matches right now so it's not really an option, lol!

Infernal Kickstarter Miniatures

Some of you may remember my post from Salute 2015 where I raved about a game called Infernal by Wartorn Games. Obviously having a link to the project helps one's enthusiasm (we know one of the creators, Jon Corps, from our 40k tournament days), but Al did a great job of selling the game to us on the day. It was not a difficult decision to back their Kickstarter when it launched.

As with many a Kickstarter before, I forgot about it once it finished. Messages and updates from the guys landed in my inbox but I'll admit I didn't take much notice as most were production updates. Unfortunately when the survey came in I wasn't paying much attention either and managed to send it back with our old postal address on it. Fast forward to earlier this month and I suddenly felt left out as everyone was getting their stuff and I was still rather empty-handed.

Miss Neith

A bit of investigation revealed my mistake. What an idiot! I sheepishly contacted Al to explain the situation. Without any hesitation Al was happy to send another set to the correct postal address. How awesome is that – customer service at it's best. This was quite a gesture since they had gone out of their way to make sure people gave them the correct details, with reminders and prompts (which I had ignored). What an idiot!

Spider Bitch

Anyway, a top group of guys who are so enthusiastic about their new venture it's infectious… but on to the models. I went down the Tortured Souls route with my pledge – always rooting for the bad guys – and they arrived earlier this week.

Let's get one thing straight – this game is a horror movie in miniatures form and is not for the faint hearted. The monsters will give you nightmares and elements of the rulebook should come with a 15 certificate. For my £45 pledge I got six models: Miss Neith & Spider Bitch (two pics above), Dr Goodall & Black Death, plus a couple of scrawny looking zombies (Husks?).

For me the flagship model has to be the 13-piece Spider Bitch. Digitally created, it has a massive amount of surface detail and I am happy to say that it looks amazing in real life. The resin is remarkably clean (no release agent residue, almost no mould lines and no imperfections), in fact it's some of the best resin gear I've seen… ever.

Just to prove a point I took a closer image of the Spider Bitch body sprue.

The Black Death model is a huge lump of solid resin. I get the impression this was sculpted traditionally rather than digitally? The detail doesn't seem quite as crisp as Spider Bitch, but that may be intentional and it doesn't stop it being an impressive (and rather large) model. You can just imagine the ink washes flowing over this model bringing out all that amazing detail.

The 'host' models for these two big nasties are similarly impressive. Very unique characters that benefit from the same great production as the bigger models.

As you can see I haven't built anything yet – this is just an opening observation. I also got to download a monstrous zip file containing all sorts of files: tokens, character cards, wargear and of course the rulebook.

I have looked through the rulebook and that's going to need it's own blog post – I have plenty to say about that! Till then just enjoy these lovely models…!

Aetherium: House Ikaru

Just a quick post to say that the cat is now officially out of the bag – the new Aetherium Kickstarter is live.

I've been working away since November on this bad boy, not only putting together the graphics for Kickstarter, but composing the new Schema, cards and other bits that are required for the new expansion to the game. I will start work on the new book will start imminently and I'm very excited about that!

Whether Aetherium is your thing or not, you have to admire those new models (the image below shows a few) – some of them are simply amazing – and it's been a pleasure getting to work with the new imagery so far.

Who doesn't like ninja robots?!!

We got a brief glimpse of them in the original Aetherium Kickstarter, but they've been fleshed out (so to speak) and are now a fully fledged faction of their own.

Brian, Chris and the guys at Anvil 8 Games have done an amazing job, as we're coming to expect.

Go and have a look at the Kickstarter, and if you see something you like take a punt!

No doubt there will be more Aetherium updates from behind the scenes coming soon.

Zombicide Goes Medieval

Well, they promised it would be here before Christmas and they lived up to their word. Cool Mini Or Not delivered the box set of Zombicide:Black Plague yesterday – the first instalment from the summer Kickstarter.

It's Zombicide alright, but not as we know it!

I opened the box and had a quick rummage around. It all looks very similar to the original, I just get the impression they've improved things across the board. The dashboards look great and the associated colour-coded pegs and base covers look really useful. But enough about that… what about the models?!

They definitely seem to have improved things in the last few years – these models have tonnes of detail on them and are just begging to be painted. Whether it'll be enough to get me to paint them is another matter, but we will see.

They are very nice though.

No doubt there will be games played over the Christmas holidays…

The Russian Bots Are Back

A quick look over the blog stats these last couple of weeks has pointed to the fact that the Bots are back – the blog getting double the number of hits it would normally. It's a bit niggly given that I'm interested to see how the stats hold up while I'm in hobby purgatory. Not to worry – building work on the house is coming to an end so next month should see hobby time kick off again (to some degree at least).

Talking of Russia and Bots I came across this Kickstarter recently. Although I've been aware of Pulp City for ages, I only downloaded some rules last week. I found them rather interesting so when a related Kickstarter appeared I was very interested. Alas an opening pledge level of $95 is too rich for me, given that I'm not that emotionally invested in the game yet.

Some great looking minis in there, but not sure that having a game based around the cold war is particularly prudent at the minute, given how tense things are between East and West over Syria.

Amongst other things on my radar this week – the Raging Heroes Light & Darkness Kickstarter. This finished some time ago but you are still (somehow) able to pledge via Paypal. I saw this when it launched and as much as I love what RH are doing, I don't really have a use for their models. I'd love to say I'd paint them one day but if I'm honest they'll sit in a box for a couple of years then find their way to Ebay. However, after seeing the sculpts of their range of hero nuns – yes Hero Nuns! – I was nearly swayed to part with some cash… nearly. These Daughters of the Crucible are stunning models, if sort of twisted. Mind you this whole Kickstarter is twisted so they fit in well with the theme.

I'm sure if pushed I could find a use for these models, but cash is too short for such extravagance.

Back to the rule-writing!
