Artist Statement

Neath is a 3D artist inspired by the ideas and imagery found in film. Working mainly with recycled cardboard and other plain materials such as string, wood and paper to produce model miniatures, which have been also used in animation. With a handmade and low-fi aesthetic being central to all the work he produces.

Balsa wood is another central material that’s been used recently to produce work in layers to build up the form of horses in poses such as leaping and jumping in reaction to a shock. They also represent Neath’s anxiety when it’s not under control “the horse has bolted”

He’s currently being influenced by the 3D printing process, which prints 3 dimensional objects layer by layer. This process has been translated into cardboard that is cut and shaped for each individual layer to produce objects that are themselves informed by Science fiction. The production of these objects are more concerned with the process of layering over the precise replication of the original form. The limitations of both the material and the process are fully embraced. Over time he’s introduced other materials into this current series of work

His work refers to the absence found in the work of Daniel Agdad a contemporary working with recycled cardboard and paper to produce awe-inspiring pieces. As his own work matures by continuing to improve and push making skills in each new work, wanting to grow as a maker.

  1. Hi Tim,
My name is Jacqui Gallon. I am an associate member at Two Queens. I work part time as Artist Curator at Fearon Hall Community Centre. The centre takes part in Loughborough Lates, a four times a year arts trail event which includes exhibitions across various venues. The next event is on 8th September and our exhibition is entitled ‘In Search of Shelter’. The theme was inspired by a recent project working with asylum seekers. The exhibition will explore displacement and homelessness. I am writing to ask if you would consider contributing an artwork – a model of a house/ block of flats, for example. I’m afraid there isn’t a fee – we all do the evening in a voluntary basis but you are welcome to publicise your various work shops, etc. Artist contributing to the exhibition include James Milner, Grime, Miffy Ryan, Beryl Miles, Paul Dexter. I think your work would add another interesting aspect to the event and we would really value the addition of one of your pieces. I hope this is of interest and look forward to hearing from you. Best regards, Jacqui Gallon.
