When I woke up this morning (too early), I saw that British author Patrick Ness, feeling frustrated and wanting to help Syrian refugees, pledged to match 10,000 pounds in donations to Save the Children.
It got my attention partly because I know that even famous authors make less money than you’d guess. And 10,000 pounds is a real chunk of change.
Also – people immediately helped him meet his goal. I think people all over the world want to do something to help refugees, but aren’t sure where or how.
Donating to Save the Children is a small thing, I know – but it’s something.
After Patrick met his goal, John Green pledged the next £10,000 … and then two more authors stepped forward. It was so encouraging to watch.
Now, the donations have reached 100,000 pounds, and that doesn’t include matching funds – and it would be so good to see it keep going.
So I’ve joined a group of American YA authors who’ve pledged to match the next £10,000 in donations. When donations hit £110,000, we’ll kick in our matching money.
I hope you’ll make a donation if you can. Even small donations make a real difference.
