Enter the witty, intriguing world of Weslandia! Now that school is over, Wesley needs a summer project. About the Author

Paul Fleischman is the author of many books for children, including the Newbery Medal–winning Joyful Noise: Poems for Two Voices. With Candlewick Press, he is the author of The Dunderheads, The Matchbox Diary, and Eyes Wide Open, and Alphamaniacs: Builders of 26 Wonders of the Word. He lives in Monterey, California.
 
Kevin Hawkes is the award-winning illustrator of more than fifty acclaimed picture books, including the New York Times best-selling Library Lion by Michelle Knudsen, Me, All Alone at the End of the World by M. T. Anderson, The Librarian Who Measured the Earth by Kathryn Lasky, and Sidewalk Circus and Weslandia by Paul Fleischman. He is also the illustrator of Michelle Knudsen’s picture book Luigi, the Spider Who Wanted to Be a Kitten. He is also the acclaimed author-illustrator of both picture books and chapter books. Kevin Hawkes lives in Maine.

    Paul Fleischman grew up in Santa Monica, California, the son of children's book author Sid Fleischman. Drawing on history, music, art, and theater, his books have often experimented with multiple viewpoints and performance. He received the Newbery Medal in 1989 for JOYFUL NOISE: POEMS FOR TWO VOICES, a Newbery Honor Award for GRAVEN IMAGES, the Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction for BULL RUN, and was a National Book Award finalist for BREAKOUT. He lives on the central coast of California.

    Kevin Hawkes (1959) was born in Sherman, TX to a creative family. There was a lot of music in his house, books, and homemade projects like toothpick constructions, paper mache' pinatas, and wooden models. Kevin moved a lot when he was little and lived in Europe and many parts of the United States. In school, he was that quiet kid who liked to read. He also drew a lot. He liked to draw space ships, race cars, castles, and monsters. He didn’t like to draw cats or bicycles. Kevin studied illustration at Utah State University in Logan, UT and begin his publishing career in Boston. He has written and or illustrated over 50 picture and chapter books including Library Lion, a New York Times Bestseller. Kevin has won numerous awards for his illustrations including the Kate Greenaway Metal, National Jewish Book Award, Boston Globe Horn Book Honor Award, Lupine Award and the Mazza Medellion for Excellence. He lives in Southern Maine.
