LOOSE LIPS
Gary’s only TV interview, with Melinda Messenger and Richard Arnold on a daytime
show called Loose Lips, recorded on October 22, 2003, the day before my 32nd
birthday, during a hectic flurry of press engagements leading up to a Perrier showcase
at the Palace Theatre. Uniquely, they wanted to speak to me but not hear any of my
music. Richard implies that’s because the songs were ‘filthy’ but it’s more likely they
just didn’t have time. I was forewarned they might ask me some questions about 80s
music but I didn’t know exactly what, so that whole exchange is entirely improvised.
Fortunately, I’d just written that line about rifles and dress sense a couple of weeks
before, so it was fresh in my mind.
