The most effective way to stop platforms from degrading? Give users an exit door. 🚪 Martin Kleppmann breaks down why data mobility and vendor competition are essential to keeping dominant tech services honest. If leaving isn't an option, user value always takes a back seat. 🔗 Full talk: https://bit.ly/4gcsEvp #BigTech #DataPrivacy #InfoQ

About us
Senior software developers rely on the InfoQ community to keep ahead of the adoption curve. One of the main reasons software architects and engineers tell us they keep coming back to InfoQ is because they trust the information provided and selected by their peers. We’ve been helping software development teams adopt new technologies and practices for 20+ years through InfoQ articles, news items, podcasts, tech talks, trends reports, and QCon software development conferences. Join a community of senior software engineers, architects, and team leads, and never miss out on important trends.

AI promised developer productivity. The reality is getting more complicated. According to Atlassian’s State of Developer Experience 2026: ⇨ Developers saving 10+ hours a week with AI fell from 68% to 26% ⇨ Only 28% report noticeably less friction ⇨ Engineering leaders spend more time managing and correcting AI output than developers do 🔗 Learn more: https://bit.ly/4BweRZ5 #AI #DevEx #DeveloperProductivity #InfoQ

What if architecture became executable, not just advisory? Spec-Driven Development (#SDD) shifts software engineering from writing code to defining intent. Specifications become the source of truth, while code is generated, validated, and continuously checked for architectural drift. ➡️ The shift: Engineers focus more on intent, policy & system design ➡️ The payoff: Greater architectural consistency & multi-language parity ➡️ The challenge: New complexity & a fundamental change in how engineers work Read the #InfoQ article for more insights ⇨ https://bit.ly/455AYab #SoftwareArchitecture #InfoQ

Adding agents changes more than the number of prompts in a workflow. It changes where state is kept, how responsibilities are divided, which tools each component can use, and how failures can be traced. A single agent with well-defined tools may keep the execution path easier to inspect. Multiple agents can separate responsibilities, but they also introduce coordination and handoff decisions. The useful comparison is which design makes the required behavior, authority, and recovery path clearest for a particular workflow. Lan Chu, a principal engineer with experience building production data and machine learning pipelines, facilitates the November 13 InfoQ Certified AI Engineering cohort. Participants examine agent orchestration, memory, autonomy, and control as part of their own architecture decisions. Can you trust AI agents with terminal access? Untrusted data can trigger prompt injections, unwanted command execution, and exposed secrets. Birgitta Böckeler explains why allowlists alone can’t patch these blind spots. 🎥 Watch the full talk: https://bit.ly/4cdniMR #AIAgents #PromptInjection #CyberSecurity #SoftwareEngineering

Are AI agents making data lakes and SQL engines obsolete? Not quite. A disaster-recovery analytics workflow combines AI agents, Parquet files, and DuckDB to deliver reproducible results without a shared lakehouse. 🔗 Here is a look at the architecture, the line between deterministic computation and probabilistic reasoning, and 4 signals that tell you when an embedded engine is enough: https://bit.ly/4sCXMZl #AI #DataEngineering #DuckDB #InfoQ

Anthropic moved its monorepo from Git to Scion to handle 25M+ daily checkouts across agentic and CI workloads. 🔹 Server-side repo operations (commits, merges, blame) via APIs 🔹 Tiered caching with >99% cache hit rates 🔹 Up to 100x faster checkouts with a 200x smaller infra footprint The trade-off? No offline independence in exchange for massive speed at scale. 🔗 Read the full analysis on InfoQ: https://bit.ly/4BwFrRC #AIdevelopment #DistributedSystems #Anthropic #Git #SourceControl #InfoQ
