Elek Bacsik - Nuages

I came across this album after hearing the mind blowing guitar work on Serge Gainsbourg's Confidentiel. This is an album of well-chosen jazz standards arranged and played to perfection. Listening makes me hungary (lol) for more. Also, this guy plays bebop violin, what the hell.

Jacques Brel - Brel (Les Marquises)

Jacques Brel's 1977 comeback and final album is an amazing one. His compositions are more varied here than any prior release, ranging from somber ballads to sarcastic psychedelic pop. His vocals are as incredible as ever, which is shocking considering he recorded this album with only one lung. His prose is still top notch, I just wish I knew the French language myself so I wouldn't have to rely on shaky English translations which probably are missing a lot lost in translation.

Fela Kuti inspired fusion. I'm turned off by most contemporary jazz but this one really keeps me listening.

Central Fires EP

Anyway, Central Fires are a band from our very own Birmingham, AL. This is their new EP. Download it. It's fucking awesome. I don't know how to describe it other than that. It's like really dense post-hardcore that's occasionally heavy, occasionally dream-like. I don't know. It's good as hell. I think I remember seeing someone say this is for people who like Isis and Smashing Pumpkins. Now that I think about it, if those two fused together, this would sound kind of like that.

James Blackshaw - The Cloud Of Unknowing

Stunningly beautiful & ethereal pieces for 12-string acoustic guitar. The title track is one of the best things I've ever heard. Definitely give it a listen if you're a fan of stuff like John Fahey or Jack Rose or Sir Richard Bishop or etc. etc. but chances are if you like them, you've probably already heard this. Whatever.
