Sound of Nothing

Good Monday evening!  It’s Quadille Monday on dVerse and Lillian is hosting.  This time she has asked us to use the word “Silence” in our 44-word poem.

Stepping outside, my boots crunch on snow

I stop, realising there is nothing else

No traffic, no hum, no chirp

Utter and total silence

I cannot help but stand still

And allow myself to be swallowed

By the deafening nothing

Knowing it won’t last

Beating the Winter Whites

dVerse Quadrille Monday was yesterday but I won’t let that stop me!  De Jackson (aka WhimsyGizmo) hosted and suggested we bloom out a 44-word poem including the word flower.  So here we go!

While snow blankets the ground

As far as the eye can see

The idea of springtime

and the flowers it brings

Feels (is) still so far away

To counter the winter whites

I dust off my vase trio

in preparation

There will be blooms

An Engaging Smile

Monday’s dVerse challenge, hosted by De Jackson, aka WhimsyGizmo, was (is) to write a quadrille (44-word poem) using the word “smile”.  Well now… I know I can do that!

At our high school graduation gala

We learned we’d receive a “Marque d’excellence”

for one thing that distinguishes us

Wonder what I will get?

“Athletic prowess”

Says everyone

How wrong were they (and me)?

“For her engaging smile”

Which I cherish to this day

*Because Miss Dale Rogerson distinguished herself by her engaging smile, the Directors and teachers are delighted to present her with this Mark of Excellence.

Hoot Do

It’s Quadrille Monday on dVerse.  And I and I am actually here on a Monday.  Whoot!  De (WhimseyGizmo) is hosting and has asked us to use the word “Hoot” in our 44-word poem. Do enjoy!

Hoot do you do?
Say I unto you

Hoot you reply
giving me the side-eye

I mean no harm
With my best charm

You hoot and holler
A true heathen bawler

I fear, not here, resides the party?

I tease you, come, and hootenanny!

The Best Combos

It was Quadrille Monday yesterday on dVerseLisa has asked us to use the wortd “with” in our 44-word poem.  Soooo many directions to go in with this one!  I was going to try to be more poetic but my voice is my voice and once I started typing, this came out! I am going to try harder next time.

Some combos in life

make everything better

Grilled cheese with tomato soup

or how about

Ice cream with apple pie

Those are tasty for sure

and a delight for the tastebuds

But let’s not forget

The very best combo is where

You’re with Me

Right Then and There

Monday, Merril hosted dVerse’s Quadrille Monday and when I saw the word “crab”, I knew I had to share this one.  Let’s just say Merril and I did NOT go down the same road!!  I was feeling rather special and cherished when a friend surprised me with this gift for my birthday (way back in April 😉 )

“Happy Birthday!”

friend surprise-visits me

“Can’t stay, take this!”

Left standing, dizzy, yet grateful

plans prohibit immediate delectation

tomorrow then

try to nap

crab is calling

Cooked it, ate it,

(still in my skivvies)

standing at my counter

like some mannerless heathen

A Walk in Darkness

Quadrille Monday on dVerse was hosted by Punam of paeansunplugged and she asked us to use the word “darkness” in our 44-word poem.  So I’m late.  Can’t fight the muse when she decides she wants to play, right?

After a delightful evening

on the last night of May

I walk home in darkness

I giggle still, thinking my

“do you want some choklit”

with a horrid British accent

had us both howling in laughter

The stupid things friends share

are the best

My Place Is

dVerse Quadrille Monday, was hosted by De Jackson, aka WhimsyGizmo, where we were asked to write our 44-word poem using the word “Place”.  Oh the places we could go with this one!

My place is
front and centre
behind and hidden
on equal standing
underneath, holding up
high above, overseeing

In my place I am
exuberant and enthusiastic
seen but not always heard
but present, completely

My place is mine to share
when I want to

Ablaze – Quadrille no. 200

Yesterday was Quadrille Monday on dVerse.  Yeah, yeah, I dunno why I never seem to get my schtuffs together in time. I think it’s a subconsciously conscious decision. Anyway.  Michelle, aka Mish, is the host and wanted us to use blaze or a variation thereof in our 44-word poem.

Bertrice Small, Kathleen E.Woodiwiss, Rosemary Rogers

My favourite, wicked, avant-garde authors who created

Shanna, Skye O’Malley, Ginny – heroines

whose wild adventures and even wilder sex

set this teenage libido ablaze

I devoured these books back then

Now?  I can’t even get through Chapter One

Friday Night’s Alright

Monday was Quadrille Monday on dVerse, hosted by De from “WhimsyGizmo“.  She instructed us to use the word “Friday” in any way that suited us, as long as we kept our poem to a strict 44-word count.  Last night, as I was tossing and turning instead of sleeping, a thought came to me.  So, here is the result!  And here I was thinking I wouldn’t play…

Friday, age five to thirteen
Yay! Cartoons on Saturday!

Friday, age eighteen to, let’s say 25
Sweet!  Let’s go out to dance and drink!

Friday, age 26 to 65
Work week is over, time to do household chores

Friday, retirement age
What? It’s Friday? It’s always Friday!
