Happy Birthday Emery!!

I can't believe my baby girl turned one on Saturday! Here's some pics to document the event...

She wasn't quite sure what to do with the cake. Plus, she was a bit frozen with lots of people staring at her. I am not sure if she is ready to be on stage just yet....

We had to get her started with a spoon, because she wasn't sure how to tackle the cake. But once she got started she was loving it.

"How old are you Emery?" ONE!! Ok, so she doesn't quite get that yet, but she points when you point, so we like to say that she is saying she's One.

Yummy! The hat was made by her Aunt Liz in Utah. The package came just in the nick of time and Emery was so distracted by frosting that she kept it on the whole time.

New Calling

So, I guess our ward figured that since we have less than 6 months left with them... they would stick us in the Nursery! There are good and bad (Brian) feelings about this new call to serve. I am kind of excited to not have to be the Enrichment Leader anymore. Also, with afternoon church and a 1-yr-old child, it isn't like we are really getting much out of Sunday school or RS. Emery will love to play with the toys, watch the "big" kids and eat snacks. Brian is depressed because now he can't ditch the second hour and watch golf. But, I think it will be a good experience, and at least we know we have a time limit. So, buck up Hubbie, we've got some fun Sunday's ahead of us!NOTE: The above picture is from a google search, it is not my husband or anyone I know.

Sunday night is no fun...

I am kind of sad that no good shows are on Sunday nights anymore. This used to be one of my favorite nights of the week, it was a great finale to my weekend. Now my Grey's Anatomy is on Thursday, forcing me to tape every episode. I used to love EMHE, but I just couldn't take all the cheese anymore. Ty, you gotta shave your nasty flavor savor. And Desparate Housewives has really reached a low. Of coarse, I still watch it, because I have nothing else to do - but BA and I decided last night that the gayness of the writers is really showing in the show. And Zack Young's hair is SOOOOOO bad. Seriously, it is so girly! He could almost be cute if he didn't have that hideous head of hair. Look at how much better he used to look.

Well, I am trying to get the hubs into the Amazing Race, I hope that will perk up an otherwise bleak night. Man I can't wait till I either get cable or a life.

For LOST fans....

What was the deal with the whole Groundhogs Day twist with Desmond? (I like to think that any time someone goes back to relive a part of their life as Groundhogs Day) How many times do you think he has done that? That is a bit too crazy. And it was funny because at the begining of the episode, when Charlie was being all annoying, BA and I were saying that we hate Charlie and hope he dies (not always, sometimes I like him) and then what do you know...it looks like BA's wish will come true.

Happy Valentine's Day?

Since we have been starving students the last few years, my husband and I decided to kind of do away with frivolous holidays (like Valentine's, Easter, Anniversary...) Not that we don't try to take the opportunity to say we love each other - just that we decide not to get eachother presents for such holidays (or if we see something we want/need we say that can be our Valentines gift). I know there are some wonderful creative people out there who say that you don't need money to celebrate such Holidays. I agree with you. I just wish I was more creative and had more energy to carry out such thoughtful acts. It has been one of my goals to be more thoughtful in that way... but that is another blog for another day.

My husband is graduating this May and we have a real job in the forseeable future. So, I asked my husband last night if next year we are going to start celebrating Valentine's day and stuff. He makes a good point that he only does it to make me happy, but that he dislikes Valentine's Day. The problem is, if you want to go out to eat, it is the busiest night at most restaurants. Most date places are overly crowded. Then if you want to buy flowers they are way overpriced and mean less than if he gave me flowers on any other day (because on Valentine's it is more expected). I agree with most of his points but there is a part of me that still loves Valentine's Day and what it represents.

I know that most holidays are so commercialized that it almost ruins them. I'm not saying I don't love any excuse to get/give presents - because I love that. But I just don't like how because it is so commercialized, the thoughts and sentiments on Valentine's Day become expected or routine. The day is supposed to be the day of romance, but how is it romantic when your calendar and every ad and store tell you to be so? So, this is my dilemma - how can we celebrate such holidays, this day in particular, with real sincerity? I guess I am having a hard time because I love holidays. I love having an excuse to celebrate something. I love gifts and candy and flowers and romance. But I kind of hate holidays sometimes too because it reminds me that I should be more thoughtful and creative and giving. Something I am not very good at...

For those that miss my TV recaps

I kind of feel stupid that I don't feel that I have many interesting things to write, except about TV. So, I have been avoiding writing a blog about TV - but then I realized...nobody really looks at my blog anyway, so I can talk about whatever I want. So, here are some thoughts about some of my shows this last week.

Monday - This is a troublesome because I am a fan of both Heroes and 24. Fortunately, we have a handy VCR in the other room (it's the poor version of Tivo). So, we decide to record Heroes and watch 24. Jack is such a hero and I am so glad that he is around to save us all. Although I still haven't seen the man eat or take a leak - maybe that is his super power.

After Heroes I like to watch Studio 60. I loved this show when it first started, but like many shows it is losing my interest. But, don't fret I'll still watch it, 'cuz what else am I going to do from 10-11? Sleep? As if.

Tuesday - Well, I usually have something going on every Tuesday night (my hubbie likes to say I am having an affair, he just wants to cry because he has to put the baby to bed). Anyway, I miss my favorite Gilmore Girls and usually have to catch it by downloading it or borrowing someone's video. Anyway, I finally watched Tuesday's episode and I have to say... I hate Christopher. He is such a loser. I am kind of mad at the writers for making Lorilei marry Christopher, and for making Luke be an idiot last year. It better get better soon!

Wednesday - Most important thing that happened this Wednesday was LOST is back. Typical of season opener, there was a lot of confusion, a lot of new questions being presented, and few lingering questions (if any) answered. But I am a fan until the end. I can't wait to see what happens! Do you think Juliette is good? And why does she believe helping Ben now will get her off the island, when until then she has been stuck there?

Thursday - Comedy Night Done Right is right. I love Thursdays. (and no I haven't dropped Grey's, they have moved to my poor man Tivo, and I watch it on Friday). I will say that I am mad at Pam for leaving with stupid Roy. What is up with them trying to make him good now? Other than that, I found the Office pretty painful to watch. Michael is just too much for me most of the time. On Grey's I will say that - the little girl kind of creeped me out. And is it so wrong that I want Meridith to drown? But of course she won't because the stupid show is named after her.

That is my recap for now. I know I really put myself out there... showing how much pathetic TV I watch (and that didn't even count the Scrubs and Friends reruns, the Ellen show and the Today show). I will say this much. Weekend TV sucks when you only have 4 basic channels. I mean my Sunday's have really gone to pot.
