Getting Started with Primfeed, Finally

I’m afraid I’m very late to this party, but that’s hardly unusual. I’ve been hearing good things about Primfeed for months now. Back in mid-August, it was even included in a Second Life newsletter. If not an outright endorsement of the service, it certainly felt like a level of approval from the lab.

This weekend, I at long last set up my account. It really could not be simpler to do. If you have not already done so, you can activate an account in just three steps taking a total of a couple minutes.

  1. First, point your browser at the Primfeed site.
  2. At the bottom of the sign-in screen, look for “Don’t have an account” and click the “Create an account” link next to it.
  3. Provide your account name (not your display name) and select log in with in-world code.

Almost immediately, you’ll receive an IM inworld from the Primfeed service providing you with a code to give to the next page in the sign-in process. (Naturally, you’ll want to be signed into Second Life to receive it.) That’s it, your Primfeed account is up and running.

You’ll want to take just a bit more time to upload an Avatar for your profile, fill in a short bio (you only get 512 characters, so you can’t spend that much time on it), maybe set up a banner photo. You can also start following people. You can search for them, or if you know who you’re looking for, their Primfeed is at https://www.primfeed.com/account.name. For example, mine is https://www.primfeed.com/alta.thiemen.

After all that work, you may be pretty worn out. Have a break inworld, visit a coffee shop or something. After a bit, you may be rested up enough to post the first item to your feed. Talking of which…
