Cowboy Protectors #1
By Virginia Vaughan
When Abby Mitchell left behind the man she loved, she took with her a secret that she had no right to keep. But now Abby and Luke Harmon are both back in their hometown, and Abby's secret is about to be revealed when her niece is kidnapped in front of them.
Years ago, Abby gave up her daughter, and she never let Luke know that he was going to be a father. And when Kenzie is kidnapped in broad daylight, he may never get the chance to get to know his daughter. Worse, Abby's betrayal is compounded because she never gave him a choice in regard to the baby he didn't know she was expecting. He's lost fourteen years that he'll never get back.
Soon the case takes an unexpected turn when someone targets Abby and her nephew. With her life in danger, Luke has to step up his game, calling on his FBI resources. Can he stop whoever took his daughter before they kill the woman he could love if he can forgive her?
Kidnapped in Texas is the first book in Virginia Vaughan's new series Cowboy Protectors, and as a series debut, it is most definitely suspense-filled reading. There are a few twists that will keep you guessing. Abby and Luke both have some growing to do as they both cling to the past and their somewhat destructive tendencies - Luke his anger and Abby her reckless impulses and secrecy.
As a Love-Inspired Suspense book, this is a clean read and has an ending that won't disappoint (surprise, maybe).
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion - all thoughts expressed are my own.

Gut-Wrenching and Riveting Quick Read
Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2023This book has a pace faster than a speeding bullet and it kept me engaged from beginning to end. Beginning with the terrifying kidnapping of a young girl named Kenzie off the streets of a small town in Texas, this book deals with the difficult topic of human trafficking in a realistic and gut-wrenching way. Abby, Kenzie’s guardian and aunt, witnesses the kidnapping but can do nothing to stop it. Enlisting the assistance of FBI Agent Luke Harmon, her former boyfriend, Abby is determined to do whatever it takes to get Kenzie safely home again. The story of Luke and Abby’s former love and how they need to trust each other again is one that touched me deeply. Luke not only lost his love but he also lost his faith in God and needs to find his way back. I enjoyed the realistic portrayal of the characters and all of the feelings that I experienced as I read about them. I especially enjoyed the twists in the story and the way the author kept me guessing about the bad guys until the ultimate revelation at the end. I love a good mystery and this one fit that perfectly! I also liked how the fast pace continued throughout the book, as new details were added about the case and the predicament that Kenzie was in. Abby’s faith was important in the story but it does not overwhelm it; it’s just part of who she is and this makes her more realistic as well as admirable. Luke is a likable character, flawed and vulnerable but strong when the occasion demands it. He is a hero to emulate and a dynamically complex male protagonist. The fact that the book is a clean read in spite of the difficult topic it deals with was a bonus for me. The entire book was an enjoyable, quick read and I highly recommend it to all who enjoy suspense, romance and faith all mixed together to make a remarkably cohesive story.

Trust and forgiveness
Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2023"Kidnapped in Texas" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. I liked that Luke and Abby had genuine issues to work through before they could work as a couple. Abby grew up looking out for herself and wanting to be in control. Luke grew up in a situation that left him unforgiving and doubtful about a good God. When Luke learned that Abby didn't tell him about their having a daughter (who was just kidnapped), the trust from their childhood friendship was broken.
Luke accused Abby of not trusting him. He's skilled at working abduction cases, but when Abby didn't see immediate progress, she investigated on her own with mixed results along with increased danger. She came to realize that she didn't really trust Luke (or God) though she cared about him. Luke still cared about Abby but wasn't sure that love was enough for a relationship to thrive without more trust between them. He had to come to value this second chance more than holding on to his anger. This relational conflict continued between the two until nearly the end, so I thought resolving these issues might come too abruptly. However, it worked out believably.
I liked that Abby could think quickly in an emergency. She was often able to rescue herself and others from a burning house and the other suspenseful encounters with the bad guys. Luke tended to show up at just the right moment to help, so he still was a rescuing hero. Abby learned to trust God (rather than feeling like it all came down to her), and Luke learned to give and accept forgiveness. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable romantic suspense.
I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.

Riveting suspense that’ll keep you invested in reading until the end
Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2023“She had no choice but to believe him. He was the best and somehow God had brought him back into her life at just the moment she needed him. She had to trust in that.”
“He’d always been her protector. Even when they were kids, he was the one she’d turned to.”
Kidnapped in Texas, the first book in the Cowboy Protectors, is another highly intensive story full of twists and turns by the author. I was quickly pulled in from the very beginning invested in finding out what would happen until the very end.
Abby Mitchell has been raising her niece, Kenzie, and her nephew, Dustin, after her sister and brother in law died in a car accident. She cares so deeply for them that she left behind her job in a big city to return to the small town where she’s from.
Enter FBI agent, Luke Harmon, who witnesses a girl, Kenzie, being kidnapped right before his eyes. He’s from her past and they eventually realize who each other is. They must put their past behind them and work together to find who’s responsible. They in turn encounter something bigger than they’re prepared for, possible human trafficking. Will they uncover who’s taken Kenzie and locate her?
This book contains second chances, faith, secrets, and forgiveness. Abby puts her trust in God, but Luke has a past he’s running from and has a hard time believing that God can help him with his weaknesses. They’ve both been hurt by the choices they’ve made in the past in different ways. Will they be able to trust one another again to get closer once more? I like how the author always fills in the empty pieces like a puzzle to bring the ending all together. I look forward to the next book in the series.
I received an advanced copy from the author. I was under no obligation to leave a positive review. All opinions stated here are my own.

A new suspenseful series by Virginia Vaughan
Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2023Kidnapped in Texas by Virginia Vaughan is the first book in a new series. Abby Mitchell has moved back to Jessup, Texas to be guardian to her niece and nephew after her sister and her husband died in a car accident two years ago. While standing across the street, she witnesses her niece Kenzie being abducted. Desperate to find her, she turns to the local police. Luke Harmon also witnesses Kenzie’s abduction. Determined to help his ex Abby find her, he helps the local police while on leave for the FBI. Though awkward at first, these old feelings start resurfacing between Abby and Luke. Abby has a big secret and since becoming a Christian she knows telling the truth is the right thing to do. But it might cost her. Will Abby and Luke find Kenzie before it’s to late? Can they work through the secret that she’s been hiding? Time will tell!
OMS! What a page-turner. If you love suspense with a little romance kicked in (especially a 2nd chance romance) then you are in for a treat. Romantic suspense is my favorite genre and Virginia Vaughan never disappoints. She has a way of telling the story that you quite forget you are reading. I love that when that happens. You get so immersed in all the action and the feelings that you lose awareness of the world around you. This is one of those books. I can’t wait for book #2 of the Cowboy Protectors series. I’m hoping it’s about Luke’s cousin Caleb. He needs a love story too. There is an awesome epilogue. It made me happy and wanting more. So don’t delay. Don’t you want to know who kidnapped Kenzie? I was given a copy of this book, but all opinions are my very own.
