Taken on my D70. You can make a wild guess as to my location.
Boy, does time really just zip by. The little baby I used to rock to sleep in my arms has turned into a toddler with the transition taking place all too quickly. Most young parents will tell you how they miss the tiny-ness of their kids and I am no exception. When he wants to let loose, he wiggles out of my arms much more easily than he used to. It takes so much more to keep up with him these days as he is so mobile and absolutely bursting with ‘toddler power’. So for those who wonder how he’s doing up, this is a little photo of the month. This was taken around 2 weeks back.
“Applause for the TT”
(Somehow this pic never ceases to put a smile on my face)
There are days when you feel spiritually down. Days when you feel you’ve succumbed one too many a time and not brought honor to the Lord, very well knowing that it was because you chose not to walk circumspectly. They can be very dreary times indeed. Though this ought not to be the regular experience of the believer, we cannot deny that we wouldn’t face such seasons in our lives. But with our gracious Lord, it’s always about loving discipline, then our repentance, renewal and restoration. We should not stay in the doldrums (getting uncomfortably comfortable there), we should rise up to our feet and continue on with the journey. I believe there really might be no such thing as static Christianity, you’re either going backwards or forward.
How necessary it is for us to begin each day right being reminded that “.. they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” Galatians 5:24-25. Each day we must start afresh, and thankfully His mercies are just as refreshingly new every morning (Lam 3:22-23). We don’t run on yesterday’s fill or supply, it’s granted day by day, much like the provision of manna in the wilderness to the children of Israel. Thinking about these things, this old song came to my mind this morning, a much cherished song which reminds me that my life in Christ is a daily walk.
Just a Closer Walk With Thee
I am weak, but Thou art strong;
Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
I’ll be satisfied as long
As I walk, dear Lord close to Thee.
Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.
Through this world of toil and snares,
If I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my burden shares?
None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee.
When my feeble life is o’er,
Time for me will be no more;
Guide me gently, safely o’er
To Thy kingdom shore, to Thy shore.
Oh Lord, may i give this day to Thee.
Over the weekend i had an interesting conversation with some people regarding the subject of homosexuality. The prevalent thought among those I spoke with (as with many others) is that people are born with it and they can’t help themselves. We’ll address the “born with it” issue soon. But it’s the “can’t help themselves” bit that i really disagree with. The point being, that while a person may even possibly have some tendencies, it does not warrant them to engage in a lifestyle that God has clearly declared to be sinful and wrong. A simple example here might help. Let’s say for example that I somehow have a short tempered nature, it still gives me no right to go snapping at everyone and fly into a rage. Unbridled anger is wrong whichever way you look at it. The principle is the same for this issue of so called homosexual tendencies. Essentially, God’s standards of morality have never changed (as He is unchanging), standards of ethics don’t differ because of ethnicity. What is required then, is that one should come to God, commit these sinful habits and tendencies to Him and asks the Lord for help in those areas of his life. Much like the case if a male is perhaps slightly inclined to be ‘effeminate’ or so to speak ‘hormonally challenged’… that is no license for him to say he can’t help himself and can willfully engage in any sinful lifestyle. God will judge us as responsible for our own actions.
Now with regards to the being ‘born that way’, this is a common perception which needs to be addressed with regards to the scientific community’s consensus. And here is where a helpful and short article on the subject may cast a more balanced light on the issue. Here are excepts from the article titled “Is there a Gay Gene?” (http://www.narth.com/docs/istheregene.html)
Many laymen now believe that homosexuality is part of who a person really is from the moment of conception.
The “genetic and unchangeable” theory has been actively promoted by gay activists and the popular media. Is homosexuality really an inborn and normal variant of human nature?
No. There is no evidence that shows that homosexuality is simply “genetic.” And none of the research claims there is. [emphasis in original] Only the press and certain researchers do, when speaking in sound bites to the public.
Also in the article..
But before we consider the specifics, here is what serious scientists think about recent genetics-of-behavior research. From Science, 1994:
Time and time again, scientists have claimed that particular genes or chromosomal regions are associated with behavioral traits, only to withdraw their findings when they were not replicated. “Unfortunately,” says Yale’s [Dr. Joel] Gelernter, “it’s hard to come up with many” findings linking specific genes to complex human behaviors that have been replicated. “…All were announced with great fanfare; all were greeted unskeptically in the popular press; all are now in disrepute.”
Read through the article for yourself and the other balanced resources on the subject available and arrive at your conclusions. I don’t think you’ll arrive at the understanding that environment, upbringing, exposure and (may i add) man’s innate sinful tendencies that drive people to this.
This calls for balance and an understanding disposition. We should not be what people term as homo-phobic, labeling and insulting people who are living in this way. No one is outside of the reach of God’s grace and we certainly musn’t turn away those who are in need of the liberating power of the Gospel. May God grant us the wisdom in this matter as we maintain a clear line of God’s standards in a world where the lines are getting blurred.
I used to really love those milky white rabbit sweets with the edible wrappers. But with this latest tainting scandal, these China imported bunny candies are now outlawed in this country due to their harmful melamine levels. Who would have imagined that the cute little fellas would be toxic? Also, one wonders how long ago the production lines have been running with bucket loads of that “M” substance being tossed in. It may very well date back to the time when I was consuming it as a kid. One would never know now.
It’s been pretty alarming to see just how far reaching this particular tainted milk problem goes. Even we have stopped giving our little boy his favourite “Baby Bites” because it has skimmed milk from China listed in the content packaging. I am a Chinese (and am not racially prejudiced), but I am well aware as to what extent my fellow folk could go to just to stretch a buck, doing whatever it takes to arrive at an end product. Masking is a diabolical art not foreign to Malaysia & China food production processes. Example, toilet paper used in asam laksa to imitate fish pounded to pulp, fried onions fried with rafia string (to get them shiny and keep them crispy for longer periods)… some ingeniously use plastic straws!, boric acid used to whiten noodles … even plaster of paris added into the soya bean milk. There’s talk of a special chemical solution they use which can apparently turn stale fish to look good as new, reports of recycled used cooking oil filtered from drains… the list could really goes on. There is nothing really new to all this… I just think that this time it’s gotten real personal. Infants are dying and many are very sick as a result of this malpractices. It’s just not a matter of funny trivia anymore.
In my simple opinion, much of the good work China did in promoting the country through the Olympics 2008 has been undone by this recent exposing of the penchant many of their country men have for falsification (eg. opening ceremony footprints video?) and evil business practices as shown in this massive milk tainting scandal. The world is up in arms (and rightly so), but I feel this can only certainly be the tip of the iceberg.
Who knows where the rabbit trail will lead us to?
