I like this app very much. I reached a point in learning Dutch when I could read quite complicated articles and books, but I still missed many words. This app is perfect for such case. I buy a book in ePub format and then upload chapters one by one. LingQ creates several lessons from each chapter. After this, I can start reading a lesson in the mode when only one sentence is shown. All unknown words are highlighted in blue, so I can create translations for them first. All words which learning is in progress are highlighted in yellow, so I can check if I remember translations. If sentence still doesn’t make any sense, I translate it with Google Translate (it’s done inside the app). Very handy. Also LingQ is good for learning texts with audio. It allows to listen and read on the same page. If I see a word I don’t remember, I stop the audio, check the translation, and then continue. The two issues I have:1. When I try to import an article on my iPhone, the app starts failing to start. The only way to fix this is to remove the created lesson via the web interface. 2. I would like to see the following functionality: after long-tapping on a word, or selecting a part of a word, the standard iOS “Look up” option is shown in the menu (now it’s only “Copy” and “Add LingQ”). This can be useful in the following situation. In Dutch language tons of words are composed from two nouns. Such words often are not in dictionaries, but it’s easy to get the meaning if you know both parts. But if you don’t know one of the parts, you cannot look it up with LingQ. Now I have to copy the part of the composed word I don’t know and check its meaning in another app. The “Look up” option would make it much easier as iPhone already has build-in Dutch-English dictionary. Quite sure this can be useful for other languages as well.Anyway, these two issues are minor and I still give the app 5 stars.
Thank you for your detailed review! We're happy to hear that you're getting so much value using LingQ for studying Dutch. I've taken note of your two concerns and will see what we can do. Importing articles on your iPhone works best from the Safari app. Make sure you have the updated version of our application, and contact us at support@lingq.com if you continue to have failed imports so we can help you. The app should not fail when you upload. We will launch a new version of the app this year too, which will have improved functionality.
