A Mug of Mayhem (The CafFUNated Mysteries #4)

Description:

When their wedding venue becomes a crime scene, the bride and groom are in for a real trick-or-treat.

One week before Marissa plans to get married at her fiancé’s farm, Connor is arrested for a murder in the corn maze. Marissa and her maid of honor, Tandy, must prove the groom innocent before the wedding is cancelled.

With a coffee shop to run, family visiting from out of town, and preparations for the big day, time is running out. The senior citizens who’d been at the farm during the homicide offer to help investigate, but are they witnesses or suspects? A cranky military veteran goes rogue and disappears with his gun, a retired spy suffers from dementia, and a former Broadway star still seems to be putting on a show. Unless the real killer is unmasked, death could do them all part.

My Thoughts:

It was Marissa and Connor’s wedding week and Connor chased his former employee through a corn maze. Did Connor kill Hubert?

I thoroughly enjoyed this cozy mystery and readers who love donuts, spies, and costume parties will have a fondness for it too. I had a hard time picking out the suspect, which is always a plus.

My favorite quote was Winifred’s “hobble-dee gobble-dee.”

Readers who enjoy cozy mysteries will want to read the whole series:

A Caffeine Conundrum (Book One)

A Cuppa Trouble (Book two ~ my review)

A Latte Difficulty (Book Three ~ my review)

A Mug of Mayhem (Book Four)

Chicken Crossing(Kristen Joy Wilks)

Chicken Crossing (About The Book)

Why did the chicken cross the road?

The machinations of poultry are difficult to decipher. Add an infuriating youth pastor, a terrifying crash at highway speeds, and trap-building kids too bored for their own good and you have something a little more serious than a knock-knock joke.

After the local librarian foolishly agrees to haul a trailer full of chickens over the pass, an unexpected crash sends fifteen beloved hens scattering into the wilderness. Shelby and the exasperating Jack must locate, capture, and return the chickens to his nephew before the talent show at the boy’s new school on Monday. The problem: chickens are incredibly difficult to catch. Especially when dispersed throughout the wild. When they take refuge in a coop occupied by twenty identical hens and guarded by multiple NO TRESPASSING signs and a pair of bored mountain children who have been watching way too much TV, tensions rise and feathers fly. Can Shelby thwart an alarming collection of unlikely traps and find the chickens before they are devoured? Imagination and ingenuity go so very wrong in this epic clash of inventive child verses accidental chicken thief.

My Thoughts:

Chicken Crossing is a Christian Rom-Com enjoyable by all ages.

Brianna’s family is allergic to dogs, so Shelby thought bald rats would be the answer. I eagerly read chapter after chapter of Chicken Crossing. It is a fun novella and a genre I don’t usually read.

I am thankful to author Kristen Joy Wilks for introducing me to her works.

God Bless and Thank You for reading. I give Chicken Crossing 5*/5*

I received a copy of Chicken Crossing from the author. The review is my honest opinion.

About the author:

Author Bio
Kristen Joy Wilks has carried a frog in her pocket, captained dubious watercraft made from old boards, and directed her horse through a herd of 200 elk against all good sense. Due to a brilliant scheme with her cousins, she has even been suspended by her feet over a homemade pit filled with gardener snakes. Despite this experience, she returns to the mountains again and again. Kristen is now married to a camp director and has three mountain boys of her own who make life lively with captured snakes, pet chickens, and their large and slobbery Newfoundland dog. She writes about what she loves: the quiet of the forest, the freedom of a mountain wind tangling your hair, the ill-considered schemes of unstoppable children, and the love and loyalty of animal friends who will never leave your side … as long as you bring snacks. Kristen can be found at www.kristenjoywilks.com or in an overstuffed chair at 4:00 AM writing a wide variety of implausible tales.

Puppy Dog Tales

Puppy Dog Tales is a romantic comedy short-story by author Liwen Y. Ho.

This is such a cute, clean story. I was drawn to the book by the cover and so glad I read it. The puppy was left to Melvin Lai after his favorite uncle passed. He couldn’t figure out why because he hates animals. What he needed, and wanted, was a wife.

Vivian Chu enjoyed her job as a veterinarian. But her ma wanted grandchildren.

I loved both characters in this sweet story and I hope to read more by this author. I highly recommend this novella to fans of sweet, clean romance stories.

Review:A Latte Difficulty (The CafFunated Mysteries Book 3)

A Latte Difficulty is a Christian mystery and suspense romance novel by author Angela Ruth Strong. It is book 3 in the CafFUNated mysteries series.

A hacker tried to gun down Randon -the hipster millionaire, in the Caffeine Conundrum Cafe. But with limited descriptive evidence of the suspect do the police have the right person?

Marissa Alexander, the protagonist, made this an enjoyable read with her mishaps. I also appreciated that the antagonist was hard to figure out all the way to the end. Each time I thought I knew the culprit I was wrong.

This book, so far, is my favorite in the series. I recommend this novel to fans of Christian mystery and suspense.

Review: A Cuppa Trouble

A Cuppa Trouble is a Christian mystery/suspense romance book by author Angela Ruth Strong. This is my introduction to the author, and it’s book two of The CafFUNated Mysteries Series. Isn’t that a lovely cover?!

It’s Valentine’s and the grand opening of Caffeine Conundrum. To celebrate the opening co-owners Tandy Brandt and Marissa Alexander will host The Dating Game as a fundraiser to fight heart disease.

Marissa finds George Knibbs dead in the snow just outside the shop. Was it an accident or was it a crime?

This was a humorous book although I didn’t approve of the love triangle. However, I am glad for the chance to read the book. I give it four stars because I was captivated enough to continue reading to the end. I did not figure out who-done-it, so that was a plus.

There is a sneak peek of the third book in the series at the end. It is titled `A Latte Difficulty.’

Review: A Crazy Optimist

A Crazy Optimist.jpg

A Crazy Optimist  is a romantic comedy novella by author Anne Greene. The cover lured me in to want to read it, the sweet face and the cute cat. I love the name of the heroine, Sparkle January. I also appreciate how the author put much detail into the writing of the setting, as well as the characters. The reader can imagine being in that spot.

Sparkle is single and earning her own way in New York. She is the sole owner of a taxidermy and a Maid of Honor for hire on the side. I didn’t realize someone offering their services as Maid of Honor could make so much money. Actually, I had never heard of this before reading the book.

I like how salvation is easily brought in to the story, and that scripture is quoted. I did not like the serious tone the book took before the ending. By the title and cover, I thought it would be more comical. However, at just 88 pages, this book has a lot to offer and so I give it 4* out of 5*.
