Fun Composition from BoC (#1 Wishlist)

I love this. Another Boards of Canada song.

I love it, cuz it sounds like someone pulled their kids one day, deciding to play a little game with them in the studio. Recorded what was going on, then cut it up and mixed it into music later!

I wonder if that’s what they did?

Anyway, it’s TOTALLY something I’d do, if I had kids.

I just feel you should involve them in mommie and daddy’s life, let them experience what you’re doing.

Have fun with it.

My mother was great about this when I was growing up, and I loved every minute of it. I was also really proud to spend time in her business with her. I was tremendously proud of her as a person (now retired). Still am….

Life was an adventure with her, and I think it’s a great idea to exercise with children.

Anyway, wasn’t that great?!?

Humane Entrepreneurship?

This guy just makes me smile, so I wanted to share this. With so many of us experiencing “bad bosses,” these days, I thought it might be nice to share an interview with someone whose business model is based on something else.

I also think he’s inspiring because at a time when so many of us are locked out of the emerging workforce, I think there is a silent challenge that could be met. I keep thinking, what if some of us started organizations, businesses, or projects of our own which expressed our passions?

And with little success, built a team around it. More, a larger team, and so on and so on?

I keep thinking instead of getting the next boss, who structured his company with cheap and inhumane managers who bully people (and who thinks that is okay because it’s bringing in his bottom line), why not create pathways which express our dreams while using that to be of service in some way?

Create a different paradigm? Sure some of us will be successful and some of us may not. But it’s better than signing up for the next victim train (aka bad business model afloat).

I mean, I keep thinking, for those of us unexcited about getting that next job for fear of repeating the last experience on any level…perhaps there is another path.

And, if that isn’t our thing? Let this inspire you at least, to know that they aren’t all jerks and not every company is a nightmare with an open seat for the next victim of abuse.

This guy seems like a fabulous example of someone who may take his responsibilities more seriously than just a focus on profit. But I believe, there are others. I’ve heard Apple, CNN, Landmark, and Google have a company culture that is very conscious about what it is for the employee.

Anyway, for those in search of the next, may you find a more humane environment, fostered by one such boss. Or the way to create your own….whatever type of work you do.

Advice to new writers?

Don’t give a shit. Don’t care. Books, until recently, were dangerous: banned, burned, watched. Write something dangerous. Say something you shouldn’t. Blow something up. But well. ~Shalom Auslander

For Anyone Who is Knocked Down…

…and struggling to get back up…or starting over….this song is for you. It’s a very random post (what isn’t on this blog). But I wanted to do something to say, I’ve been there and am there.

To say, I know your fight, and it’s little by little.

And to say, I’m with you.

*Yeah it’s a song, but…. it’s not.*

Lyrics:

Paranoia is in bloom,
The PR, transmissions will resume
They’ll try to, push drugs that keep us all dumbed down
And hope that, we will never see the truth around
(So come on)

Another promise, another seed
Another, packaged lie to keep us trapped in greed
And all the, green belts wrapped around our minds
And endless, red tape to keep the truth confined
(So come on)

They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
We will be victorious
So come on

Interchanging mind control
Come let the, revolution takes its toll
If you could, flick the switch and open your third eye
You’d see that, we should never be afraid to die
(So come on)

Rise up and take the power back
It’s time the, fat cats had a heart attack
They know that, their time’s coming to an end
We have to, unify and watch our flag ascend
(So come on)

They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
We will be victorious
So come on

Hey, hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey, hey

They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
We will be victorious
So come on

Sony Head Amy Pascal on Women Directors: The Whole System is Geared for Them To Fail | Women and Hollywood.

Not sure what to think of this article. Agreement is commitment in my book, and I don’t want to “call” it yet. Still, women directors should be abreast of the climate. So I’m glad I read it and stumble across stuff like this.

But people who care about diverse perspectives (especially a woman’s on film) should know this stuff too. This is the environment women filmmakers could potentially be in.

Full Length Wish List #1

I’m going to start compiling a wish list of people I will approach regarding my next project here. If you like music you can enjoy some good music. =) Hopefully this serves as a reminder for me and music supervisor extraordinaire, when we’re there.

Why this group?

Because their range is incredible, their music can underscore and they could score. =)

But I just discovered them, so who knows? Maybe they’ll be too big and expensive. Maybe…not?

We-shall-see. 🙂

When Charity is a Stage

I just saw this story on Yahoo news.

http://news.yahoo.com/video/woman-celebrates-birthday-random-acts-232658518.html

I thought what this woman decided to do was a sweet idea – for a second. Yeah. I’m pretty cynical and I don’t know if this is New York at work or my life experiences.

Anyway, I instantly thought: Wait a minute, why is she allowing herself to be interviewed about her random acts of kindness?  I dunno about this…

To me, in so much of life, what we’re seeing is not what we’re getting.

Most people are not doing charity or activism out of the goodness of their heart. But we rush to make good of the act  so most times we don’t even pick up the true intention beyond it.

And to our defense – of course not.

The acts are usually masked as goodness, kindness, concern, humanity, connectedness, a spiritual ethic etc, etc., And masked really well.

However a closer look at things sometimes reveals a narcissist getting pay back in the form of acknowledgement for their acts or a manipulator presenting an act without strings right now. For the manipulator the act is executed as an investment in a later return, that return being access of some kind.

Which is okay, we’re human, but folks rarely call these acts what they are.

On the other hand, when corporations ‘give,’ there is an understanding about that support, that  there will be an exchange.

Wouldn’t it be great if regular people practiced an iota of that? Here’s money but I want a favor. Or here’s money, but I want to sleep with you, or here’s money, but I want you to help me with a recommendation. Or I’m baby sitting, but I want you to advise me through my situation, or I’m raising you to be taken care of when I’m older. Or I’m recommending you as a candidate for that position, but I want to use your discount sometimes.

For better or worse, honesty just treats you like a grown up. Swindling treats you like a child, as it serves up a story to get a result.
