BBC Panorama Video Report

A BBC team inside Syria filming for Panorama has witnessed the aftermath of a fresh horrific incident – an incendiary bomb dropped onto a school playground in the north of the country – which has left scores of children with napalm-like burns over their bodies.

Eyewitnesses describe a fighter jet dropping the device, a low explosion, followed by columns of fire and smoke.

Ian Pannell and cameraman Darren Conway’s report contains images viewers may find extremely distressing.

Ensure action to airlift NRI’s body: Commission

TNN | Aug 31, 2013, 04.45 AM IST

CHANDIGARH: Punjab state commission for NRIs on Friday asked the Union ministry of overseas Indian affairs to take proper action to airlift a Punjabi NRI’s body from Bahrain where he was killed on August 21.

Ludhiana resident Sarabjit Singh, 23, was set afire by some unknown persons on August 21 and died at a hospital in Manama. Sarabjit’s father Harcharanjit Singh informed the commission that he was employed with a company in Bahrain. “The body has not been allowed to be airlifted since Bahrain authorities are pressurizing Sarabjit’s family to give an undertaking that no case would be filed against anyone,” said the commission’s note.

The commission has ordered the deputy commissioner and…

Trauma and Forgiveness (Ted Talks)

Trauma and Forgiveness (Ted Talks)

I thought this was an incredible look into trauma and forgiveness. I’m not really sure what I want to say about it, because I am still processing but, this video is a blessing to whoever hears it and lets it ‘sink in.’

Take a moment, you won’t be sorry.

Top 5: Irritating and overused techniques in blockbuster movie marketing

“Movie marketing is showing us too much, and it needs to bring secrecy back.” (Is he right or what?)

Tom Beasley's avatarThe Popcorn Muncher

In the increasingly saturated movie market, it’s of paramount importance to create buzz around a film in the lead up to its release. Unfortunately, this advertising urgency has given rise to a number of very irritating trends in movie marketing that seem to occur again and again.

Below are five of the worst.

Parenting in Narcissism?

In the long-term, listen to what happens…

I actually see this shift in our culture, and talk at length with friends about it. But I see it not just in young people but in middle-aged folks as well (30s on). It’s there in dating, it’s there at the store, it’s there on the subway, there in professors of course work.

I’ve come to recognize it in individuals I meet, simply because it’s a personality I find somewhat shocking and make note (as I’m sure any regular here knows from previous posts).

But I also study it for characterizations, using the opportunities to understand how society contributes toward this via parenting, consumerism, normalizing appropriation, colonization etc, etc.,

New York is also a hot bed of narcissism, as it’s a place where one can easily note how this expresses itself in the moment. Here people are socialized to be more special than everyone else. So we rush for that spot on the sidewalk, to be in line first, push even elbow to get there sometimes, are not inclined to give the best in quality service in service industries (it’s not about me), don’t have to listen…

It can be a crass existence with everyone seeking to be center stage even in moments of institutionalized support. Unless a company is vigilant that not be the case, choosing employees who have survived acquiring this mechanism, then training them against displaying it?

(Even there in business.)

So if you’re watching, you can see how harmful these traits are in community because of how it plays out.

But, in my ideal universe, there is hope. I think we can reverse the effects.

Devin Aryal

On the morning of his murder, Feb. 11, Devin Aryal, 9, dressed to the ticking of his race car clock. His collection of stuffed animals, won from those arcade claw games, stared back at him from their perch on his top bunk.

Devin felt he had outgrown the cutesy animal prints that had adorned the walls of his Oakdale, Minn., bedroom. He was in fourth grade now, after all. Without tellinganyone, he had yanked the prints off his walls one by one. He had yet to decide how to fill up the blank spaces.

The night before, Devin had watched the Disney channel and played with his pirate gear and a couple of toy dinosaurs on his mother’s bed. He snuggled with her on the…
