My first Podcast interview?

This is my *very first* interview as a writer-director, and 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨….

I really like the writer whose podcast this is, so when she asked me for an interview I jumped to do it. But then, I thought ‘Wait a minute… do I know how to do an interview?”

Well, it’s done now. In the end it was like just talking with a young friend.

Still, maybe I shoulda been more formal.

Fixed

I got written up at my job today.

In a situation where my take, perspective, voice, wasn’t considered even for a moment.

I usually acquiesce, taking it on the chin when I disagree with a thing. The goal to be coachable and listen to my coach on the wrong turns. But today it was – hers. Really hers.

Still, she was insistent she was correct then low key called me a liar. This kinda thing makes you and your team member feel like adversaries.

I left feeling like a left foot who can do nothing right. Angry. Demoralized. Dismissed.

It’s a little depressing to work this way.

But, God is a fixer.

I later opened up my email to notice I have a note from the editor working on my films. He’d sent me a video clip (shortened here) for our composer search.

I watched. And as I did, the effects of my day faded.

Everything will be okay.

Happiness.

A Small Must-See (Clip)

This is my favorite scene from the controversial film Padmaavat (which I completely loved).

First off, I love how romantic and sensual Indian culture and sensibility can be.

It’s in full celebration of the feminine in many ways.

So in their films they will include elements of attraction untypical on screen.

Notice how the King looks at the Queen in this scene, he is fully surrendered, taking in what looks like his ultimate pleasure (as things play out when a man is in love). Notice his touch, when it’s his turn in the ceremony.

With her we see her playful and trusting, and in the end fully surrendered as well.

There is some “other” really nice stuff in this film, but the dance of desire, reverence, and connection packed in this clip, is a gift on film, I’ve been waiting for.

Sparks

I don’t log onto Facebook very often, I kind of don’t like it anymore.

It feels like ‘everyday-man-as-celebrity’ Olympics.

Everyone seems like they are trying to create a show of how “great” their life is, instead of using it to connect in a deeper way (which social media can be used for). Instead of using it to peer into the moments of others we may not be able to keep up with in life, and engage about their progress?

We gaze upon ourselves and invite the gaze of others over to our universe of fabulosity.

Is it me?

Anyway feels alienating and doesn’t seem to create the bridges, the way Facebook intended.  Least not for me. It is a thin connective tissue linking us to one another, giving the illusion, you’re connected. Leaves me a bit empty personally.

However, every once in a while, the page produces a spark. Something that stirs up something else in you.

This was that today:

“The things that we run from…we’re running from the truth… we’re running from the truth man…so the only way I became successful…was going toward the truth… as painful and brutal as it is… it changed me… “

How did it make you feel?

When feelings find Picture and Sound.

How every single trailer, and movie should play.

Create an emotional landscape as pathways off the screen into the heads and hearts of audience, to the point we can’t believe the characters aren’t here.

Somewhere.

(Damn. My turn. Lol…)

Where my playwrights at?

Lol.

I started checking out what it is to write a play because something I want to explore creatively, feels like it would make a better play.

However the challenge is, playwriting isn’t exactly my medium. Or at least not the one I’ve been working at. Filmmaking is.

However, after mom’s death, I’m loyal to nothing. Life is short. So if something  piques my interest, I’m on it. Who cares? We’ll all be taking a dirt nap soon, so why not try ALL the things that call to you now?

Wishlist?

More and more I am wanting to escape to a place where silence and simplicity meet to offer a different landscape than the one I exist in presently.

That often manifests as somewhere with offerings of nature. But also cultivated beauty…

This place is definitely on my wishlist.

(Though, I wonder how WOC friendly it would be.)
