Into My Sea of No.

They see female significance, or a color aspect, and it spells amateur. Now add in the trans aspect and it hooks damn near everyone’s bias. So I think I’ll be getting no around every corner too, for a while.

But the word no, is funny. Rejection grows you, and the growth is multilayered.

It’s given me insight around the nature of bias and people’s reaction to a thing that disturbs them in the most microscopic but also in some larger ways (institutionalized bias). And let me tell you, that is its own study. Now whether or not, all that translates into anything interesting for a viewer, depends on my defining an audience, then shaping a narrative from that cloth (it rests in my ability to create a soulfully impactful piece from that nugget).

Alright. Onward … into my sea of no.

I just REALLY LOVE THIS WRITER so….

I’ll post him from time to time. I just love how he thinks (amazing, amazing, amazing, thinker and creative). Plus, what kind of courage level do you have to have to commit what he has to paper?!

Off the charts.

Anyway his thinking about writing is also tremendously inspiring.

Christopher and Jonathan Nolan

Christopher and Jonathan Nolan <–PDF of The Prestige

“You would drink, too, if you knew the world half so well as I do.” ~Root

How I feel majority of the time (cept I don’t drink – anymore). What a true line, poured into a character. Christopher Nolan, is loved for a reason.

This is a much earlier draft of “The Prestige,” but it’s still, very, very, very, good. Better than the film (sorry Chris).

However, like I said things go wrong moving script to screen, they do.  But from reading this, it’s clear to see why anyone would funnel money into it. If I had money, I would have!

Fascinating read.

Talented family.

Geez.

(I’m waiting for the lion too.)

(I’m waiting for the lion too.) <——–PDF here.

I read alot of screenplays. But not just because I have to.  I love screenwriters. I love the art and I think it’s an art – just like poetry, novel-writing, or journalism (when it’s good).

If you read this script, you’ll see what I mean. Suddenly you’re feeling something for these people who don’t exist, and worried about their futures, as if that future were real beyond the screenplay. That to me is a good writer, and this guy is great.

He’s…..GREAT.

So great, I want a moment of silence right now for him. I appreciate it so much, and though it’s what I do too, it’s my guilty pleasure. So when these guys are good? I’m in heaven.

Just be warned, this guy is goin’ to the pit of your belly, and you will not finish,  untouched….

Panel Discussion with Women Directors (3/15/13)

A wonderful friend of mine emailed me an invite to this panel discussion with working (women) directors earlier today. Going would mean I’d forego my ‘work night,’ but this is the path I’m traveling down, more than what I currently do professionally.

How inspiring!!

I am so glad I went. Some deeply valuable things said during it. Fuel in my tank.

Have to finish polishing my screenplay now, and take in some extra hours to save for my camera. I don’t think I’m going to do the donate button on here. I got veeeeery little comment regarding my aim to put up a small fundraiser here. 😦

Anyway, enjoy!

Charlie Kaufman Master class on ‘writing.’

Listening to him frees me in a way, it’s like having a conversation that affirms so much of my gut instinct.

It’s pretty important for a writer, plus, I just love his personality and thus his stories! Or the other way around. Lol.

Enjoy!
