Short Films That Were Made into Full Length Films…

This post is me thinking out loud. I can shoot “Glo” as a short using my own money, enter it into film festivals, find producer/distributor or raise the money before. I’m presently attaching folks, and checking out funding sources. But I’m itching to shoot something too.

So these films made into shorts to garner attention (which they did) are really encouraging right now.

“Dennis” extended into “Teddy Bear”.

Shane Acker’s “9” extended into… “9”.

“Some Folks Call It A Sling Blade” extended to “Sling Blade”.

“Gowanus, Brooklyn” extended to “Half Nelson”.

If you’ve seen any other the larger films, wouldn’t you agree making a short from the screenplays was worth the effort? Turned out well, through and through.

I’m so excited.

Rethinking Failure

Indian-American woman anchor talks about her journey there. This was incredibly inspiring, and made me cry. And, she quite possibly changed a big part of my life right now, too.

This is courage, embodied.

For My Trusted Readers….

tumblr_mzstrbJo0A1rkspgno1_400

No kidding, the ones who actually read the words written here. Pure likers, thank you but this post is for ‘readers.’

*Moment of waiting.*

[Laughs.]

Okay now that they’re gone. Readers, I need your help.

I constructed a few one liners that describe what happens in my (present) film, along with who the character is.

They’re called log lines and I want to choose the one that packs the most punch. If you’re interested in voting  email me at writer of pure [at] gmail [dot] com for the password to the next post. Then in a day or so, when I post it, as a password protected entry you can log in and vote. There are 8 choices.

Would you do it?

Glo Thoughts (#1)

Passing Strange is probably my favorite musical.

Also where I fell in love with the work of Cinematographer Matthew Libatique.

He captures the energy of live performance and sticks with the performers long enough for the emotion to read. And if the intention/emotion/action beyond the movement isn’t captured, alot of the strength of the work may be lost.

I try to write in nuances (lots of subtext for actor to play/audience to enjoy). But where will we be if the camera work employed glosses over all that?

Still I want the camera work for Glo to be exciting, Just without being interruptive. Libatique nails that in his work (Black Swan, Requiem for a dream, Inside Man).

Plus he shoots a mixed cast beautifully.

I watched a Youtube of him (video someone took of him hanging out – creepy much? lol ) and he seems cool. He seemed like he’d be easy to talk to and fun.

No I don’t always require camera crew to be a bag of laughs, but easy to talk to? Yes. I prefer to feel comfortable with the person I’m going to have to communicate with every time I blink.

But if I can’t have Matthew for this piece, hopefully we can get someone who can achieve what’s mentioned here? Have a ball getting it down, together.
