About us

Treasury is well-known for delivering the Budget which shapes all Australian Government services, however we do much more than that. We cover the waterfront of policy – everything from working with the states and territories on significant public policy matters; forming a view about the global and domestic economic conditions; and shaping the tax, superannuation and financial systems that are fundamental to how our economy functions. As Australia’s leading economic adviser, Treasury serves the Australian people by helping the Government manage domestic and international opportunities and pressures. We also engage widely across all regions and sectors. In leveraging our presence in Sydney, Melbourne and a newly established Perth office, we work to strengthen the Treasury’s links with the business community, non-government organisations, academia and other policy-focussed institutions and consumers. Treasury also provides some of the best employment opportunities in the public services, across all sectors and regions including key global markets.

  • It’s that time of year again! Last Thursday night, staff came together for a fun evening of classic trivia and friendly competition. Our annual Trivia Night proudly supports Communities at Work, the largest provider of children’s services and one of the leading not-for-profit community organisations in the ACT region. Last year’s champions, Budget Policy Division, put up a valiant effort to defend their title, but were pipped at the post by Financial System Division, who claimed this year’s bragging rights after an impressive performance. Congratulations to everyone who took part and helped make the evening such a success. A special thanks to Kyle, Era, Bethan, Veronica, Elliott, Liam, Rachael, Will, Emma J, Emma M, Marcus, Sophie, Sarah, Reese, Imogen and Isha from our Social Committee for organising this year’s event. -------

  • Have your say on National Construction Code reform. The Australian Government is looking at ways to make the National Construction Code (NCC) simpler, more consistent and easier to use, while maintaining high standards of building quality and safety. To support this work, Treasury has engaged the Centre for International Economics to assess the potential impacts of the proposed reforms and is seeking input from industry stakeholders. Your insights will help build the evidence base for future NCC reforms. Responses are confidential and will be reported as combined findings only. You can access the survey until 13 September 2026 at https://lnkd.in/eTp-yp34

  • Last year, more than 274,000 Australians were scammed. Behind every statistic is a real person whose life has been affected by a scam, not because they weren’t paying attention. Because scams are sophisticated, convincing, and designed to catch people off guard. Protect yourself with these 3 steps to stay safe from scams: 1️⃣ Stop before you share money or personal information. 2️⃣ Check who you’re really dealing with using contact details you find yourself. 3️⃣ Protect yourself and others by reporting scams to your bank, cyber.gov.au, and scamwatch.gov.au. We recently celebrated our second Data Week – aimed at encouraging staff to be curious, share knowledge and insights, and see how data is being used across our department and the broader APS. Staff attended several events over the week, including a panel discussion with APS senior leaders and a presentation from the National Library of Australia, where they explored how everyday behaviours, curiosity and a willingness to learn can help create a more informed, innovative and effective public service. Data Week 2026 showcased how data can connect people, ideas and opportunities – and how innovation often begins with a simple question and the curiosity to explore the answer. • Last week, in the lead up to National Homelessness Week 2026, we welcomed the 2026 Young Australian of the Year and homelessness advocate Nedd Brockmann to Treasury. Nedd was named the 2026 Young Australian of the Year for his incredible endurance feats and fundraising efforts totalling over $10.6 million for his partner charity We Are Mobilise - the funding and technology infrastructure the homelessness sector runs on. The Office for Youth in the Department of Education facilitated the discussion between Nedd, We Are Mobilise CEO Noah Yang and representatives from our Housing Group, including our Director General of Housing, Ben Rimmer. Discussions focused on homelessness prevention, tenancy sustainment, early intervention, and highlighted some key programs including Reconnect, the Australian Government’s long-running youth homelessness prevention program. The program helps young people aged 12 to 18 years who are homeless or at the risk of becoming homeless. Thanks to everyone involved in setting up this important meeting.
