The PHN team are with heavy hearts as we farewell a truly remarkable member of our community, Bobby, whose impact will be felt for many years to come. Bobby served on the PHN’s Community Council until its disbandment, generously sharing her lived experience and insights to shape projects and healthcare initiatives across our region. In recognition of more than a decade of tireless commitment to dementia advocacy and awareness, she was awarded the PHN Dedication to Service Award in 2024. Earlier, in 2020, Bobby was also honoured as a NSW finalist for Senior Australian of the Year for her outstanding community and dementia advocacy. Diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia at the age of 66, Bobby — a retired psychologist — had already spent her career supporting people with disabilities to live at their highest possible capacity. Rather than slowing down after her diagnosis, she intensified her advocacy. She raised awareness, contributed to research, and remained deeply engaged with dementia-focused organisations, including leadership and advisory roles at state, national and international levels. Bobby was an active conference presenter, educator and advocate across the Central Coast and beyond. She lived independently, embraced innovation and technology, and consistently championed the importance of social connection and meaningful engagement for people living with dementia. Bobby’s resilience, generosity and purpose were truly inspirational. As she once said, her advocacy work “helps me to maintain a strong purpose in life and thus a positive attitude… and gives me the opportunity to hopefully improve the future for people living with dementia.” We extend our deepest gratitude for Bobby’s extraordinary contribution and our heartfelt condolences to all who knew and loved her. Her legacy will continue to guide and inspire us.
We’re incredibly saddened by the death of Bobby Redman, who has passed away aged 76. Bobby was a Dementia Australia Dementia Advocate, Dementia Australia Honouree and former Chair of the Dementia Australia Advisory Committee. Bobby, a retired psychologist, was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2015. She was deeply committed to advocacy and to ensuring people living with dementia, along with their families and carers, were heard, respected and supported. Bobby chaired the Central Coast Living with Dementia Advisory Group and was a member of the Central Coast Dementia Alliance Committee. A passionate community leader, she was also a Rotarian and Red Cross volunteer. In 2020, Bobby was nominated for the NSW Senior Australian of the Year Award. Bobby had a deep and unwavering belief in the power of technology to transform the lives of people living with dementia - extending independence, strengthening connection and enhancing dignity and quality of life. Bobby leaves a remarkable legacy that lives on in everyone she met. She turned her personal experience of living with dementia into a powerful force for change, driving national advocacy, influencing policy reform and strengthening community awareness and engagement. Our deepest condolences go to Bobby’s family, friends, colleagues and the broader Dementia Australia community who mourn her loss. Vale Bobby Redman.
