From my perspective in emergency management and critical infrastructure, this creates a major opportunity but also a major responsibility. As Australia accelerates investment into AI and hyperscale data centres, resilience can no longer be an afterthought. Emergency management, business continuity, cyber resilience, and real-time evacuation capability must be embedded into infrastructure from day one. The Budget supports growth in technology and sovereign capability, but rising energy demands, infrastructure pressures, and operational risks could also slow the sector if planning does not keep pace. I believe the next decade will belong to organisations operating at the intersection of: AI + critical infrastructure + emergency management + operational resilience. EvacTracker was born in moments of fear, confusion, and unanswered questions. The first defining moment happened when I was nine years old. A catastrophic fire erupted at an ammunition depot near my home in Pakistan. Sirens, smoke, panic, no instructions, no guidance, no one telling us what to do next. In that chaos, I instinctively gathered a group of children and led them away from danger. We didn’t have a plan. We just knew staying still wasn’t an option. What stayed with me wasn’t just the fire; it was the absence of information. No clarity. No direction. Just fear filling the gaps where communication should have been. Years later, after building a career in data and analytics in Australia, that childhood memory resurfaced in a very different setting. I was working in Melbourne in 2017 when a violent incident unfolded just outside our office. From above, we watched crowds scatter, emergency vehicles arrive, and uncertainty spread through the city. Inside the building, people were asking the same questions I remembered from years before: Is it safe to leave? Should we stay put? What’s actually happening? He emphasized that the ruling reflects Australia’s dedication to cooperating with Egypt to protect world heritage, preserve cultural treasures for future generations, and combat the illegal trade in antiquities.

Too many instances of violence are still happening in emergency departments across Aotearoa New Zealand, according to new data released by ACEM. One year since the New Zealand Government’s 2024 Budget investment to place 24/7 security staff in ‘high risk’ EDs, progress on boosting security staff has stalled and there has been no additional expansion of services or support. It is time to restart the national conversation about violence in EDs, with urgent and coordinated action needed to ensure the safety of staff, patients and whānau. ACEM’s ‘When Care Meets Conflict: Violence in Aotearoa New Zealand’s Emergency Departments’ report found: • More than one-third of respondents reported that physical violence occurred daily or frequently in their ED. • Less than half of respondents indicated that they ‘always’ report incidents of physical violence • Less than half of respondents reported having access to ED-based security officers. “Physical violence against ED staff is happening all over Aotearoa New Zealand, and it is happening every day,” ACEM New Zealand Faculty Chair Dr Kate Allan said. “Too often viewed as an inherent part of the job, violence in EDs takes a toll on staff morale, contributes to burnout, and is a significant factor in experienced healthcare professionals choosing to leave the workforce.
