Wedding Details I Would Do Again

I spent a fair share of my time and bank account on the little details leading up to our wedding. And thanks to ETSY and Pinterest, most of my favorite finds were at the click of a button. Dan and I had one overarching shared goal leading up to our big day, for us and our guests to have as much fun and as little stress as possible. So, every plan we set and purchase we made centered around that idea. Some of my favorite wedding details included –

Koozies. Because when I think of koozies, I think of so many of the best things in life: tailgating, reunions, barbecuing, and boating. We loved the way they turned out and they were an easy take home favor for our guests.

Check-In Bags. We had family and friends from 14 states at our wedding which meant a lot of travel on their end. I loved putting together welcome bags as a small token of thanks for everything they did to make it to our wedding.

The S’mores Bar. This one pretty much explains itself.

Favor Cards. Because Dan and I fall into the ‘Crazy Dog People’ category, we decided to make a donation to the SPCA in honor of our guests. One of my bridesmaids made our favor cards and I couldn’t have been happier with the result. Not to mention, it felt like Nola was there partying with us.

Bridesmaids Gifts’. It was really important to me to give my bridesmaids practical gifts that they could use and wear again. I decided on monogrammed robes and necklaces and I loved the personalization. Not to mention, it made handing out the gifts so much easier 😉

Reader Question(s) – What’s the best thing you’ve ever had to eat at a wedding? Where was the best wedding you ever attended?

Wedding Do’s

I know there are approximately 2 million (give or take a couple million) ‘Wedding Musts’ lists in existence and each one offers it’s own unique twist and hidden gems on what to do to make your wedding day the best day ever. I loved reading these as Dan and I prepped for our wedding and I appreciated all the tips for hosting the party of all parties.

With that being said, after all our wedding festivities were complete, I had two main takeaways and advice to offer to couples making their way to the altar –

Own it. Your wedding is just that, yours. If you want to serve pizza and beer, do that. If a live band is on your wish list, hire one. Dan and I opted for Mexican Food and Margaritas, I changed into a short dress for dancing, we had a friend officiate, and we decided not to see each other before the ceremony. Our wedding was the perfect wedding for us, and isn’t that how it should be? The way I look at it, it’s the biggest party you’ll ever host so you might as well make it exactly what you want it to be.

Live it up. I honestly cannot emphasize the whole ‘enjoy the moment’ thing enough. Little things will inevitably go wrong. Our desserts were late to the reception, the wine cork name holders didn’t make it to the venue, and it didn’t matter. We were with our family and best friends celebrating the most exciting day of our lives.

And there you have it, a year of wedding planning and two main takeaways!
