Yesterday at domain Kattebroek in Dilbeek, the Cofinimmo and Aedifica NV/SA teams in Belgium proved that #StrongerTogether isn't just a slogan, it's already happening on the ground. In a relaxed (hot) summer atmosphere, colleagues from both companies came together to learn about each other, share experiences, and simply get to know the people they'll be working alongside. Team activities, friendly competition, and a well-earned barbecue despite the heat made for the perfect icebreaker just days before the merger officially kicks off. 🌱 Sustainability Academy: insights from timber construction expertise in Finland. Today, Cofinimmo hosted another edition of its Sustainability Academy in collaboration with Sustera Finland. Sustera has supported Cofinimmo on several projects in Finland and brings strong local expertise in the use of timber in modern construction. This session offered valuable insights into the specific characteristics of wood construction, covering both technical requirements and sustainability-driven design choices. Jack Barnard, a structural engineer from Nodetec, highlighted the shift from traditional materials like steel and concrete to engineered timber products, with examples all across Europe. Finland is recognised as a frontrunner in low-carbon timber construction ('Glulam' and 'CLT'). At Cofinimmo we applied the cross-laminated timber technique on our flagship office building Montoyer 10 in the heart of Brussels. 🏑 From the office to the pitch — team spirit at its finest! Last Thursday evening, ten motivated Cofinimmo colleagues pulled on their shin pads and took to the field for the Corporate Hockey Tournament — and what an evening it was! With summer-like temperatures setting the perfect backdrop, the energy on and off the pitch was simply electric. Whether playing hard on the turf or cheering loudly from the sidelines, the Cofinimmo team showed up in full force and won 3 out of 4 matches. This week, our Sustainability Academy welcomed Hervé Camerlynck from Febelcem at our headquarters for an inspiring session on the net zero roadmap of the cement industry. From decarbonisation levers to the pivotal role of cement and concrete in the transition towards net-zero buildings, the session shed light on how the Belgian cement sector is actively contributing to a climate-neutral and circular construction value chain — in line with the European Green Deal. Key insights explored: 🔹 The main decarbonisation levers identified in the Febelcem Roadmap 2050 🔹 The role of cement and concrete in the net-zero buildings transition 🔹 How this sectoral roadmap supports European climate and sustainability objectives At Cofinimmo sustainability is at the core of our DNA. A transformation that creates the foundation for what comes next. Over the past years, Cofinimmo has successfully transformed into a leading European healthcare real estate company: a portfolio of more than 6 billion euro, of which 77% of healthcare assets, strong total shareholder returns and a recognised sustainability leadership. This transformation now sets the stage for the next chapter together with Aedifica NV/SA, building an even stronger European healthcare real estate platform. Following the Annual General Meeting of 13 May, Jean-Pierre Hanin, Jean Kotarakos, Sébastien Berden and Sophie Grulois will leave Cofinimmo in June. Together with Yeliz Bicici and Roel Dumont, they have played an important role in shaping Cofinimmo’s transformation journey and preparing the combination with Aedifica. We want to sincerely thank them for their leadership and commitment. We are also pleased that Yeliz Bicici (COO) and Roel Dumont (CHRO) will continue within the Executive Committee of the combined group, helping build the future together.
