Collaboration is key to unlocking the future of cross-border payments. At the Central Bank Payments Conference, held in Istanbul, financial institutions, policymakers and market infrastructures explored the opportunities and challenges of achieving the G20 goals for enhancing cross-border payments by 2027. Speaking at the event, Chief Business Officer Thierry Chilosi highlighted three industry priorities: strengthening security in response to emerging risks, making existing payment rails easier to use and exploring how digital assets and distributed ledger technologies can complement today’s global infrastructure. Discussions throughout the event reinforced that many cross-border payment challenges go beyond technology. Participants identified regulatory complexity, data quality and liquidity management as key sources of friction. Examples from different markets also showed how greater standardisation and interoperability can help drive progress. A consistent message emerged throughout the day: achieving faster, more transparent and accessible cross-border payments will require continued collaboration between the public and private sectors, supported by the consistent implementation of global standards. #CrossBorderPayments #G20

Industry collaboration continues to translate into live transactions. UOB and HSBC have completed live cross-border transactions in Hong Kong dollars on Swift's blockchain-based ledger, marking another milestone as the industry brings digital value into real-world use. #CrossBorderPayments #SwiftBlockchainLedger
We are advancing the next generation of payment infrastructure through shared-ledger solutions. UOB has completed live cross-border transactions in Hong Kong dollars on Swift’s blockchain-based ledger, making us the first Singapore-headquartered bank to execute live transactions on Swift Ledger. This marks an important step from industry collaboration to real-world execution. Building on this milestone, we are preparing to execute Singapore dollar and US dollar transactions with other partner banks in September 2026. #OneBankForASEAN #RightByYou

Friction in cross-border payments is a bit like an iceberg, explains Swift's Shriyanka Hore. The biggest sources of delay often sit beneath the surface. Many of the factors that have the greatest influence on payment outcomes are also the least visible, from regulation and data standards to liquidity and FX arrangements. Read why unlocking the next wave of payment optimisation may depend on understanding, and reducing, the hidden frictions that lie beneath the surface. https://lnkd.in/e6T6A5zp #CrossBorderPayments

Moving value is evolving. Is the infrastructure keeping pace? Congratulations to Standard Chartered and HSBC on successfully demonstrating how tokenised deposits can move securely across institutions using Swift’s blockchain-based digital ledger. #DigitalAssets #TokenisedDeposits #CrossBorderPayments
Digital assets need connected infrastructure to scale. Together with HSBC, we executed the first live cross-border tokenised deposit transaction on Swift’s blockchain-based ledger — demonstrating how regulated bank money can move across institutions through trusted, interoperable infrastructure. This milestone reflects Standard Chartered’s broader digital assets and payments ecosystem, spanning tokenised deposits, custody, tokenisation and stablecoin settlement, helping clients move liquidity and value across borders with greater speed, transparency and confidence.
