UDRIVE is the first large-scale European Naturalistic Driving (meaning that the behaviour of road users is observed unobtrusively in a natural setting) Study on cars, trucks and powered-two wheelers. The acronym stands for “European naturalistic Driving and Riding for Infrastructure & Vehicle safety and Environment”.

FOT-Net Data is a 3-year support action project to support the efficient sharing and re-use of available FOT (Field Operational Tests) datasets, develop and promote a framework for data sharing, build a detailed catalogue of available data and tools and operate an international networking platform for FOT activities.

VRA – Vehicle and Road Automation is a support action funded by the European Union to create a collaboration network of experts and stakeholders working on deployment of automated vehicles and its related infrastructure. I am the coordinator of the project

CityMobil2 aims to address the main barriers that have been identified to the deployment of automated road vehicles: the implementation framework, the legal framework and the unknown wider economic effect.

HeERO addresses the pan-European in-vehicle emergency call service "eCall" based on 112, the common European Emergency number. HeERO addresses the pan-European in-vehicle emergency call service "eCall" based on 112, the common European Emergency number. During three years (January 2011 to December 2013), the nine European countries forming the HeERO consortium will carry out the start-up of an interoperable and harmonised 112 based in-vehicle emergency call system.

Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, The Netherlands, Romania and Sweden are all sharing the same high-level objective: prepare the local e112 eCall infrastructure necessary for the provision of a sustainable eCall service for the European citizens and share their experiences with the other EU Members and Associated States.

The eCall system will help achieving the EU's objective to decrease the number of severe road injuries and fatalities to 50%.

Funded with 12.4 million Euro by the European Commission, DRIVE C2X will carry out a comprehensive assessment of cooperative systems through Field Operational Tests. Building up on the results of the predecessor PRE-DRIVE C2X, the project will deploy cooperative technologies in several European test sites. Namely, the test deployment will include seven test sites in Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain and Sweden.

The FOT-Net project aims to gather European and international stakeholders in a strategic networking platform to present results of Field Operational Tests (FOTs), identify and discuss common working items and promote a common approach for FOTs- the FESTA methodology.
I was the initiator and coordinator of FOT-NET.

Maxime has been coordinating in the FeedMAP project co-funded by the European Commission DG information society and media. I led the development of the project together with the consortium in 2005.

The main objective of the FeedMAP project is to develop a map updating process by detecting map deviations in the vehicle using onboard sensors. The map deviations are sent in a FeedMAP service center which aggregates the map reports and creates new updates when a map deviation has reached a given statistical reliability. Show less

FESTA has established a European methodology for large scale Field Operational Trials for ICT-based automotive technologies and applications. This was a key achievement to support large scale intelligent vehicle trials in Europe. I was leader of the work package on the methodology for large scale field operational trials specific for nomadic devices.

PREVENT was the largest European Project ever funded on Intelligent Transport and Advanced Driving Assistant systems (ADAS). PREVENT was the largest European Project ever funded on Intelligent Transport and Advanced Driving Assistant systems (ADAS). It has developed a large amount of preventive safety (or active safety) applications which help drivers to avoid accidents by sensing the nature and significance of the imminent danger, while taking the driving state and driver status into account. Depending on the significance and timing of the danger, the systems will subsequently inform the driver as early as possible, provide warnings if there is no driver reaction, and actively assist or ultimately intervene in order to avoid the accident.
From February 2004 to March 2008, I the manager of the European Integrated Project PReVENT co-funded by the European Commision at DG Information Society and Media with more than 53 partners and a budget of 55 million €. RESPONSE 3 has elaborated a European Code of Practice (CoP) for an accelerated market introduction of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The CoP helps manufacturers to “safely” introduce new safety applications through an integrated perspective on human, system and legal aspects.

Digital maps have large potential for road safety to enhance or enable preventive and active safety applications by extending driver horizon. As a predictive sensor called ADAS horizon, digital maps are an additional source of information providing look-ahead capability for ADAS applications.

ActMAP project has developed standardised mechanisms to update existing map database content and enable dynamic attachment of information to the digital in-vehicle map. These mechanisms represent an important milestone for the ubiquitous availability of future location-based information and the quality of the map databases for future in-vehicle applications. ActMAP project has developed standardised mechanisms to update existing map database content and enable dynamic attachment of information to the digital in-vehicle map. These mechanisms represent an important milestone for the ubiquitous availability of future location-based information and the quality of the map databases for future in-vehicle applications. ActMAP has also used test-sites to validate the mechanism(s), including advanced navigation applications and ADAS applications (curve speed control and Predictive Cruise Control (PCC) with speed adaptation). After validation, the proposed mechanisms and exchange format were submitted to the ISO TC204/WG3 standardisation body. The ActMAP Forum, was also created to unite anyone willing to implement or use dynamic map actualisation in his applications/services.
I acted as coordinator of this FP5 EC-funded project from Jan 2004 until its end. Show less
