Former Impression: Wow. Knocks you over. 0-60 in 3 sips. The aroma fills the room with flowery hops. The malt is jumping. The bottle conditioning is a nice touch. I like a little haze in my 21% ABV ale (!). It’s syrupy with sweetness. It seems like a barleywine style, except for the IPA overtones. You are absolutely forced to sip and recover. The aftertaste is long, palate damaging, and delicious. I would find it hard to pair this with anything but the richest foods. This is the death by chocolate of hoppy beers. Thick yellowish head reduces to a wispy white foam with nice lacing. The reputation of this beer precedes it and it does not disappoint, though I thought I would enjoy it a bit more than I am, it simply whacks you over the head. It’s like trying to drink coke syrup. It’s exactly what I asked for, but as they say, be careful of what you ask for, they might serve it to you in a 12 oz bottle for 9 bucks.
Current Impression: It is the essential full bodied beer. There is no other like it, save for some Avery brews. It is overwhelming, delicious in very small quantities, and a force to be reckoned with. There is very little to compare to this collection of peach, cherry, chocolate syrup, hops bitterness, and mint leaves. Superb.

It’s a deep bitter style that eludes traditional style descriptions – not quite an IPA, not quite a Belgian, but delicious, dank, and a bit soapy. Recommended as a different direction for hop lovers and Belgian lovers.

Avery Fifteen is a golden bodied, white headed farmhouse style brewed with figs, hibiscus flowers, and white pepper. Funky, fruity, sour, and bitter, it is a surprising ale with a fantastic and generous dark finish.

Aroma: cloves, banana, peach, fruit. A wonderful version of the style, aroma fills the room.
Visuals: Meticulous packaging, beautiful and royal, thinner translucent head, hazy ruby body, gossamer lacing.
Taste: Begins bubbly, sweet, and washy, middles to a fruity candy, finishes dark with some bitterness. Delicious.
Palate: Heavily carbonated, very fresh, middle dulls and flavors emerge, finish is long lasting, sweetness, roastiness converging.
Overall: As most of my purchases from Garrett O., this is a quality brew, worth the price, with exquisite care, packaging, and attention to detail. Superb.

Aroma: fruity, musky, humid, wet. Nice mix. Faint aroma, but delicious.
Visuals: pale golden hazy, immense white long lasting head. Carbonation is a bit overactive, but calms down after some time.
Taste: delicious, rich, hoppy, layered, nicely balanced, slight burn of alcohol. Banana, cloves, pineapple, very hoppy.
Palate: back of tongue, top back, roof. finish is long, dark, deep, and fruity. This marriage of california style hops and Belgian style fruit is an instant classic for me.
Overall Impressions: Banana, cherry, lemon, orange, hops, bitterness. One of my all time favorites.

Lost Abbey Red Barn Ale

Aroma: peaches, fruit, hayfield, dirt, dust. Inviting, flowery aroma.
Visuals: Beautiful packaging, though I feel similarly about religious iconography on my beer as I do about fish. I’d rather not see it right there, in particular. Hazy golden sunset, with a bright white cloud of a head. Lace is intricate.
Taste: A very nicely done saison — tea, some spice, cloves, but what really sets this apart is the rather hoppy finish and depth. Some corn and wheat, but heavier than most of the saisons I’ve tried, which is a good thing as far as I’m concerned.
Palate: Beginning is sweet and malty, middle is darker, and dries quickly, with a slightly bitter finish that lasts for about half a minute. A very nice example.
Overall: This was my first ever Lost Abbey brew, but it certainly won’t be my last. If they can make a very enjoyable saison, I believe they can do just about anything.

Aroma: A pine forest with a grapefruit juice truck spill. Delicious.
Visuals: Very nice packaging, inviting, well designed. Hazy thick orange deep body with long lasting, thin white head and thin soapy lace.
Taste: Grapefruit, pine, resin, and hops.
Palate: Thick start with a bitter middle and finish. No crispness. Very much an IPA, and extremely so. Delicious.
Overall: A very good beer, a great example of an DIPA, and a delicious pairing compliment.

Aroma: mellow, sour, grassy. Hops come through nicely.
Visuals: The 5L can is impressive, unique, and a great way to draw beer. Fun, inventive packaging for craft brew. A bit hazy, golden to amber in color, with a long lasting white head that thins but does not disappear. Lace is phenomenal.
Taste: Very well balanced, with a malty, sweet start and a bitter hoppy finish. All the classic flavors you’d expect: pine, grapefruit, and resin. Dark malty finish is delicious. Flavor is deep, strong, and lasting.
Palate: Fresh, clean, and crisp, but lingers nicely on the front and back of the tongue. Tingles throughout the mouth.
Overall: A special treat from a great brewer. As close to the tap as I’ll have at home. I’d love to have it again, but I doubt I’ll ever see it again, after I slowly enjoy these 14 glasses. Delicious.

Aroma: A hop head’s delight. It’s deliriously, deliciously hoppy. A flowery, almost burning hop aroma. I love it.
Visuals: The packaging from Moylan’s is usually very advertising heavy, but well designed and attractive, if a little over the top. The orange pour leaves a hazy orange sunlight body, with an off-white creamy head with a lot of lace that’s sticky and fresh. This seems like the ultimate in DIPA beauty. Very well done visually.
Taste: Not very balanced. This is really all about hops, and while there is a slightly malty finish, it is very crisp, bitter, and ultra hoppy. I love it, but I imagine a differently organized palate might find it off-putting. Love hops? Find this brew!
Palate: The finish is long lasting, delicious, and dark. It’s creamy at the start, crisp in the middle, and sticky in the end. It’s a great tactile experience.
Overall: I absolutely love this brew. I’ll be looking for other Moylan’s brews, but this I’m specifically going to find this again. For hop heads, this seems like a destination beerage.
