In Your Dreams

We were all snuggled on Mom’s bed and as usual she was a restless sleeper. I watched over her and Dash snored loudly. My mind wandered as the sun came up and I wondered what Mom was dreaming about. Was I in her dreams? Oh, of course I had to be! Then what was making her so restless this morning? Was she sharing “my” stairs dream?

Or perhaps she was experiencing life as me in another of my dreams when I am victimized by the roaring monster!

Well, I pawed her a couple of times and she acted like I would…

So we are back to sweet dreams again!

Social Media Etiquette: For Dogs!

When we are volunteering, we often talk with students about using (or not using) their cell phones and computers. We speak about being polite in real life and in virtual life. Humans have developed a code of interaction of social media termed “netiquette” when using electronic devices. We dogs have some basic rules too. And here is one of them…

Ice Cream Daze

Like all humans, Mom often wants treats that are not healthy for her. Today it was an “ice cream daze”! I claim that dogs are just as deserving of “ice cream daze”. We even have “special devices” made for ice cream- LOL. What do you think?

Legal Beagles

Monday a group of Pawsibilities Unleashed therapy dogs and handlers converged on the University of Louisville’s Brandeis Law school to provide some animal therapy for the law students.

Ciara and Phoenix made sure to read the sign on this gorgeous day!

Our job was to hang out in the lobby all day and help the law students de- stress by offering them opportunities to interact with us and pat us. This actually lowers stress levels and blood pressure as research shows! So here is how the day went!

I am waiting for my first person. And now I am getting the pats we both needed!

Grendel and Beowulf got lots of attention.

Max and Jenny teamed up to put this young lady at ease.

Even the staff find this week of finals stressful, and Ivan wiggled his way into a relaxing mode.

Ziggy was quite the cuddle bug and many loved to stroke his soft fur coat.

As you can see, I stayed busy most of the day.

And when we wrapped up, the Assistant to the Dean said our group did a very good job!

. It was a great day for animal therapy at UL but boy, were we tired at the end! Here is my dreamy, sleepy face.

And that was our Paws for Law visit.

Paws for Law

It’s Monday and most UL students are groaning. Exams are coming and they would prefer to celebrate Derby events! But the law students are getting a special treat this Monday. The first annual “Paws for Law” de-stress program at the University of Louisville is being initiated!
Twelve handlers and fourteen dogs certified and insured through Pawsibilities Unleashed including Mom and me, will provide animal therapy at the law school. We will be available for petting and snuggling sessions and some trick demonstrations all to help students relax and relieve stress. We are looking forward to a super day! Hopefully we will have some great pictures to share!

Always Hungry

Good Morning says my tummy! And then I tell Mom I am hungry. She feeds me a healthy meal. I tell her again several times a day. After all, a girl must eat well when she works, right? And, then there are the times when my nose tempts me…those delectable smells of crumbs and wrappers just waiting to be licked as they lay in wait in the trash can!

Mom or one of the kids always catches me and says, “Bella, that is not your food!”. Really? It certainly smells like food to me and I want to check it out. My tummy is ready for food again!

Yes, me, Bella-always hungry!

Stinkin Cheese!

Dad was in the kitchen and pans were rattling. Mom wandered in to chat and Dash and I had to follow her. Whatever he was making, we wanted!

Yes, we are in there noses up and tails wagging! Our hope is to catch anything that Dad might drop. Usually Dad runs Mom, Dash and me off. Today was different.
They had a plan. Mom got Dash’s “go place” mat and insisted he complete a down-stay on it. I was told to stay next to him. Mom returned to the kitchen to chat with Dad, while he created yummy omlettes. We were not allowed to break our position. Dad made two omlettes. I wondered when we were, if we were getting a treat! Finally Mom walked to the fridge and took out something and unwrapped it as she walked to us. “Release” Oh! How good that felt after 22 minutes. And then we were given a treat…of stinkin cheese! Really? I ate mine quickly and hoped for more! Who wouldn’t!!

“What I Want To Know Is, Are You Kind?”

The terrorist attack in Boston culminated a lockdown of the city and the capture of the one suspect and the death of the other. Mom’s BFF from college lives there and Mom spent her college years in Boston, even participating in Patriot’s Day events. What can we as a nation, or me as a dog, take away from this situation? I find it baffling that humans behave like this. Mom does, too. She has been singing a simple tune with a line that I really like, “Wo-ah, what I want to know, is are you kind?”. That is what I wonder these days. We need to Be Kind to each other. It is that simple.

Be kind to your family. ( Even in the close quarters of a car!)

Be kind to animals. They can be your best friends…like me!

Be kind to those who are different from you. Underneath we are all human!

Yep, I had a secret, subliminal message today!

“Talk Derby To Me”

It’s holiday time in Loo-a-vull, aka Louisville. It is Derby season so “talk Derby to me”. We luv, luv, luv the Derby! The festival is a huge holiday season filled with many events culminating with the greatest horse race in history-in our opinion!

I am such a lucky dog, pardon the pun, because I get to accompany Mom to many events! There is Thunder Over Louisville. What a crowd of people at the Waterfront watching the airshow and the fireworks which are some of the best in the world!

We cheer the Belle as she chugs up and down the river to win the coveted Golden Antlers in The Great Steamboat Race!

Along with tens of thousands of other people, we line Broadway for the Pegasus Parade.

I help Mom look for that perfect hat to wear to Derby parties.

And I attempt to be the official taste tester of Mint Juleps.

Once settled at a party with friends and family, we must check out the hats of those attending Derby from the strange

to the fashionable

Then watch until the magic race appears: The Derby. The jockeys are resplendent in colorful silks, the horses are brushed and gleaming and all is ready for a mere minute or two of the best sport in history! The bugle sounds and they’re off!

. Hoofs pound as loudly as our hearts. The scene is amazing.

It is such an incredible event! So “talk Derby to me” – I am already excited!

TGIF

It’s Friday and we are glad this week is over: TGIF!

What a hectic and historic week it has been…we are ready for the weekend. In Kentucky, and especially in Louisville, once March Madness ends, Derby celebrations begins. Naturally we girls want to look our best. I saw the groomer for a new ‘do. I am “on the fence about it” and Dash was literally thru the fence.

I wanted a retro ‘do but this…

This 80’s ‘do may be a bit much. I think my dancing shoes are just perfect though!

Thank Goodness It’s Friday and Bring on Derby!
