“No” Interpreted by a Dog

Sometimes communication with humans can be tricky! One of the words they use quite often with tiny humans (aka children) and us canines is “no”. But have they considered how we dogs interpret the word “no”? Consider this bit if evidence:

Clearly, it is a “wag your tail command”!
The confusing part comes when we do not get our treats!!!!
“No” is interpreted quite differently by humans and dogs! Just sayin’

A Good Walk Works Wonders!

You have heard it over and over- waking is good for your humans health. But did you realize it is also good for canine health? The same benefits – stress reduction, cardiovascular health, pulmonary health, reduction in issues related to obesity, cholesterol, lipids and diabetes- are true for dogs. Our power naps during the day may be nice but do not necessarily improve our health. Nor does licking or bone chewing.

So take your dogs for a daily walk and let it work wonders for you both.

The Inventors of Text Slang

Abbreviating messages has always been a priority with humans, especially teenagers. But who invented text message abbreviations and chat acronyms? Not a human- but man’s best friend, his BFF, the dog! When we attempted to type using the keypads, we were not blessed with thumbs and we chose to shorten messages as much as possible. In fact, it is documented in this historical “masterpiece”…

Choices and Changes

There comes a time for change in a person’s life. Mom has recognized that I do need some changes as I mature and reach my golden years! Mom knows that I can do both my jobs (service dog and therapy dog) for a number of years but she is preparing Dash to take over for me. It is hard for both of us when she and Dash do Public Access work for his Service Dog in Training hours. I have to stay home alone. Even though Dash is a huge comfort to Mom, (and I am not named Timmy), this cartoon really reminds me of how hard it is on Mom to leave me…

Did I mention I don’t make it easy on Mom? We really love each other! But is it a change that forces this choice.

To Be Alien, Or Not To Be…

To be or not to be…an angry alien nose -that is the question a dog’s nose asks! Some humans have suggested that dogs noses look like angry aliens. Of course, that is in the eye of the beholder…

20130626-040627.jpg
It is possible that they bear some small resemblence to alien noses.
But my petite delicate nose, even when viewed from the same angle is just a nose – albeit a pretty one.

20130626-041207.jpg Proof that the answer to the question is…alien nose NOT!

Love The One You’re With

Humans open the door and their hearts to a dog. But they do not expect their cute dog to come packaged like this.

20130625-094702.jpg Dogs will “love the one their with” by fulfilling this:

What Is Heaven?

Dad put on his suit again and he was going somewhere without us. He also wore his “sad dad” look. Mom hugged him. I could tell that he was very sad and he was not excited about what he was going to do.
After he left, Mom explained that a relative had passed away. Dad was attending the funeral but we were not. I wondered about this place where she said the person had gone: Heaven. Were dogs allowed there? Did they run free? Were they reunited with their owners? Mom said that she did not know exactly what Heaven was like only that it was very, very good. I decided that Heaven might just be like this:

“…Be Happy!”

Humans spend much time pondering over how to live their lives or they race around chasing silly little pieces of green paper that never seem to make them happy. Dogs have a simple philosophy that keeps them mentally and physically fit and trim, not to mention happy!

Maybe if humans spent more time chasing the ones they loved on green grass, they would be happier and healthier. What do you think?

Bring It, My Brother!

My brother has an awesome nose! That is how he “knows” that Mom’s blood sugar is low and he lets her know. Yesterday Mom was not feeling great but she did not yet realize her sugar was dropping. Dash scented the issue. First, he gave her “the stare”.

20130623-070659.jpg
Mom often does not pay attention to subtle cues so he went for the bringsel.

20130623-070819.jpg
Mom looked at Dash and at me. Then she said, “oh, you are such smart dogs! Let’s test!”
We both jumped up and and followed Mom to get her meter. Guess what? Dash was right…Mom was low and needed to correct her blood sugar. So she had some juice and soon felt better. We are very grateful for my brother who always brings it!
