Dear Santa

Dear Santa, have I got a story to tell you. And it is not my fault. The goldendoodle and I had a play date. It was a lovely snowy day. So we went outside to enjoy the day! And this is part of the story.

20131222-082242.jpg Just because I have better aim, Santa, there is no picture of me…and the darn doodle is crying foul! Well, here is how I feel about it!

20131222-082428.jpg
I bet Mrs. Claus is on my side. Just ask her. And, Santa, I really don’t want to stay on the naughty list all the way til Christmas!!! You know me better than that, Santa!

Christmas Cookies

Christmas is drawing near and time for baking is here! Oh, the good smells that will fill the house…and Mom drinks hot coco and we get treats! It is such a special time of the year. But… I must be very careful so that this does not happen.

20131221-042829.jpg
Oh, holy cannoli! I just can’t help myself! The dough – it’s so tempting. First, I restrain myself while Mom takes out the ingredients and mixes them.

20131221-043052.jpg
But the dough – it smells so good! And it is just the size of one of my balls. I cannot help myself. When Mom turns around, she finds this.

20131221-043243.jpg And a Newfie with a dough ball on the run! Oh, holy cannoli!! She always catches me!!!!

20131221-043409.jpg Mom put us in the bedroom to make the cookies this year. We could still smell them. And when they were done, we could see them but not taste them! Santa, I am still on your good list!! Here is a picture of our Christmas cannoli!

Oh Christmas Tree: The Dog’s Perspective

Mom and Dad are celebrating the season of Advent. The tree is up and their home is decorated. Dash, Jack, and I look at things just a bit differently. We have a dog’s perspective. Can you imagine how we feel about clove studded oranges on the tree? The smell is sooooo inviting and we want to investigate the properties and determine all about them. And what about those things called “ornaments”?

20131220-140354.jpg Do they taste as good as they look? They must because Mom keeps us as far from the tree as she does from our treats when we are not getting any!!
Here is what we think about the tree.

20131220-140553.jpg
Guess it is a good thing Mom is using a gate if she does not want us to taste the goodness of the oranges, ornaments, and the tree. After all, a hungry newfie girl just can’t resist the temptation sometimes, can she?

Santa’s Helper

We are still decorating our home and today we are doing the most important part! We are putting up our tree. This morning, Mom is getting out the pretty lights and ornaments and organizing them so that after dinner when
Dad is home we can have hot cocoa and decorate! And what does my brother the Labrador retriever do? He is so fascinated with the lights he must make a “fashion statement” with them.

20131216-090009.jpg That is not helpful, Dash! Keep it up and we will not get to wear our special outfits tonight when we decorate!!! And they are cute!!! Just have a peek.

20131216-090212.jpg So let’s be good and be Santa’s Helpers!

Naughty or Nice, Oh My!

The Naughty or Nice List is coming out soon! Oh, my! Santa is up to his ears collecting information and we are a little worried. Which list will we be on?

20131207-121300.jpg I have not tampered with the computer.

20131207-121420.jpg
Nor eaten large and expensive objects.

20131207-121529.jpg
I have not given children bad dreams by playing with their toys in my own way.

20131207-121647.jpgAnd I did not do this…

20131207-121732.jpg
I do not think I should be on the Naughty List!!
Dear Santa, please consider that I have worked over three hundred and fifty hours volunteering in the classroom with my kids this year as a therapy dog. And I still help Mom as a service dog. I even won an award for all my work this year. Santa, won’t you puhleeze put me on the Nice List? I have been a good girl this year!

Elf on the Shelf Life!

We know about our Elf on the Shelf. In fact, we have two that came to stay with us this year! Their names are Calvin and Capote. They move so quickly and hide in such unusual places with treats that we are always looking for them!
But we wonder what they do during they day. Do they talk? Do they run around? Do they play ball?
Mom caught a sneak peek and captured a photo of Calvin playing.

20131207-090845.jpg
We know they keep up with the naughty or nice list because one day I found this lying on the table.

20131207-091033.jpg Dash and I are sure it is written by Calvin or Capote! They are busy little elves.
And last nite Mom caught this cute picture.

20131207-091231.jpg But we must be doing something right, because our Elves on the Shelf left us something special this morning:

20131207-091413.jpg
And that is what we know (so far) about Elf on the Shelf life!

Oh Christmas Tree!

Oh, Christmas Tree! It is time to decorate you!! But before we do that, Mom and Dad gather us pups and give the annual speech about Christmas tree etiquette. They want to make certain that we treat a Christmas tree differently than a regular tree. LOL
First, Mom reminds us about the story of Christmas and some of her special ornaments which have been handed down from family members. This angel was given to her by her great grandmother!

20131205-072536.jpg
We do not want to knock those off with our tails!
Then Mom reminds us that the cool blinking lights are not toys for dogs and that we are not to grab them like we do our laser lights.

20131205-072758.jpg
Additionally, Mom reminds us that this Christmas Tree is different than all other trees, no matter what thoughts may dance through our heads.

20131205-073011.jpg She told us she needs no help caring for the tree unlike the silly dogs in this cartoon.

20131205-073236.jpg
Finally, Mom told us that we are not to sniff, scratch, wiggle, or explore the wrapped boxes and bags placed under the tree. Is she trying to torture us!?!? And then she put up the gate to keep us out! Oh, Christmas Tree, you are so pretty and you have such good things underneath you! We just want to visit you! We cannot wait until Christmas!!!

Letter to Santa

Last night, Mom and Dad began their annual letters to Santa Claus. They write letters and mail them and always keep a copy to share and read to see how things have changed from year to year. It is one of their traditions. I thought I needed to write a Santa letter, too, and I am sharing it here.

Dear Santa,
I have been my usual goofie Newfie self this year. I have done lots of volunteering with my middle school kids and with wounded soldiers and it has gone very, very well. I am sorry about the ravioli incident and my begging for food- it just smells sooo good. Overall, Mom and Dad agree I am a very good girl.
I wanted to ask for a few things for Christmas. First, there are are lots of dogs still in rescue. Could you help some of them find good home by Christmas? This is how they feel!

20131202-065928.jpg I remember feeling like that one Christmas… And then Mom and Dad finally adopted me in March. Please Santa, this would be wonderful if you could help adopt some dogs for Christmas!
My brother, Matt, is playing football for WKU.

20131202-070320.jpg Our whole family is excited about the team playing in a bowl game. Do you keep players safe and help them win? If so, that is on my wish list Santa!
And last but not least, could you please, please, please bring treats? These are my favorites and Mom approves of them but I like any treats!

20131202-070712.jpg
And Santa, please don’t forget Dash and Jack ! They deserve Christmas treats, too. Thank you so much!
Love,
Bella

And that was my Santa letter. Are you and your humans writing one?

Happy Thanksgiving!

The holiday season is upon us. Mom has started her tradition of thirty days of “thankfulness” during which she posts a short note each day about something for which she is thankful. One day she mentioned Dash and me!! But today is the big day for Thankfulness in the human world: Thanksgiving! Families get together to spend time, eat, and remember their blessings! Did I mention eat? That is my favorite part, of course. The adults know not to feed me but there is a magical table with tiny people who throw food at me. It is like they read my mind. I try to spend as much time there as possible – without Mom catching me. It is like Disneyland for dogs!

20131128-112722.jpg
So as we start this holiday season, I am thankful that we begin with a kids table at Thanksgiving! And to all of you,

Morning Workout!

Our Morning Workout is very important! Mom has started doing yoga, walking, and jogging so that she can run a half marathon next year. That is a big goal. Dash joins her for some of her workouts. Me, I have my own routine. Here are some pictures:

20131124-082154.jpg
It is simple but effective for me. Do you like my routine? Let me know!!
