Dog’s Help for New Year Resolutions

Mom and I were chatting about people and New Year’s Resolutions. Rather, she was chatting, and I was listening. I am a great listener since I do not speak the human language…I do understand many things though. Humans tend to start things and then find them hard to complete. Mom is still continuing her lifestyle change but has legitimately taken two days off since she cannot work on the Wii fit board without socks in these temperatures. She has done some extra stretching and a little exercising though to make up for it. But what about those folks who find it hard to keep their diet resolutions? I have a great invention or rather a creative recycling idea for them!

Correctly sized, I know it will work! So, here’s to keeping your New Year’s Resolutions, humans! Be creative. Be persistent! You can do it!

Winter Weather Blues!

No school again! It is unheard of for our district to call off school the night before!! But with temperatures below zero and wind chills at twenty and thirty below zero, the safety of the students is a big issue.

20140107-092334.jpg
We are so cold that we don’t want to take our regular walks and just tiptoe on the frozen grass to do our business when we go out. Did someone say that Hell froze over?

20140107-092705.jpg
Instead of curling of and hibernating, I know what I want Mom to do!

This, winter weather blues is disheartening! Baby, it is cold outside! Bring on the heat!!

Broken Resolutions!

How long are New Year’s Resolutions kept? So many people promise to head to the gym or to diet and within weeks give up….Mom is still going strong on using her Wii three days a week and adding more games as she reaches personal bests. She is also keeping her promise about three healthy meals a day. And that automatically changes her snacking pattern… LOL!!!
The one resolution I am so glad that Mom and Dad did not make was to kick us out of bed. Think of how sad we would be!!! Or…

Yep, that resolution would not have lasted one night!

Happy New Year: 2014

Happy New Year! Welcome

20140102-091218.jpg Our whole family is excited to see what the new year brings. Hopefully for us and for you and your families, it brings wonderful gifts to you and your families and your dreams come true!
Meanwhile, it is time to work to make those plans, dreams and wishes come true. Many humans start with resolutions. Did my mom? Not really. She had started her plan for a lifestyle change when Christmas break began. Mom wanted to eat healthier overall and to increase her exercising. I have to say, so far, she has been following through. We have been getting extra walks that are much longer and she has been doing funny things on a white board with a Wii. As for the food, the diet soda with the chemical sweetener is almost gone, the candy is greatly reduced, and the meals are protein and veggies with fruit. I noticed she has more energy and sleeps better.
My resolution? Hmmm, to be brushed and patted more! I think that works out well for everyone. It would reduce the flying fur in the house and I like it!!! As for the patting, I would be doing more therapy so I would help more people, right?
If you have resolutions, I would love to hear them! Happy 2014!

Making a Resolution

It has been an interesting year, well, eventful year! We are ready for 2014 to begin and are hopeful that it holds many blessings for all.

20131230-074500.jpg
Mom has already been working on her resolution – to improve her health. She is walking, using her Wii and making better food choices. To make sure she is successful, she is making small changes each week and telling her friends so that they can keep her honest. She also journals her progress. If she makes a mistake, it is a mistake and not permanent. Mom will just pick up the next day and keep going.
But what really happens to most people with New Year’s Resolutions? I asked a friend. And here is what he told me…

20131230-075227.jpgHumans are funny! They want to make changes, make resolutions and only keep them for a week. I will keep you posted on Mom’s progress on keeping her resolution this year! I am going to make a resolution not to make a resolution! I can keep that!!

I Had A Dream

Last night, I had a dream – the strangest dream ever! I dreamed that Dad took the Christmas tree down early and snuck it out of the house. Of course, he could not sneak it past us. And, in my dream, I believed that we actually peed on the tree and were upset that Dad was removing it! Can you imagine such nonsense? Well, it was a dream! And so, I decided to retaliate! Here is what I did…

My, what a dream!! Glad it was not real life! I ran to check and both the toilet and tree were still in our home! All is well!!!

Christmas at Our Home!

Mom and Dad celebrated on Christmas Eve with the kids and the First Grandchild. Everyone was very excited! Mom cooked the ham and dad finished the side dishes.

20131227-074954.jpg The First Grandchild arrived.

The Aunts were excited and held the baby!

20131227-075543.jpgDinner was served and only Dash was allowed under the table.

20131227-075837.jpg Evidently I was too “nosy”! I had to “go place” in the bedroom- how mean! Then the humans went to the sunroom for time by the tree.

20131227-080101.jpg
Adri and the First Grandchild had a big crinkly paper thing. I wonder what kind of treats it held.

20131227-080336.jpg And Stephen grinned about his Louisville shirt.

20131227-080451.jpg
Matt grinned all night long over food and his Mosaic football book!

20131227-080617.jpg Mom said Christmas made her feel like a kid again!

20131227-080733.jpg
Me, I just watched over everyone to make sure they were all happy. So Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

Dear Santa

Dear Santa, have I got a story to tell you. And it is not my fault. The goldendoodle and I had a play date. It was a lovely snowy day. So we went outside to enjoy the day! And this is part of the story.

20131222-082242.jpg Just because I have better aim, Santa, there is no picture of me…and the darn doodle is crying foul! Well, here is how I feel about it!

20131222-082428.jpg
I bet Mrs. Claus is on my side. Just ask her. And, Santa, I really don’t want to stay on the naughty list all the way til Christmas!!! You know me better than that, Santa!

Christmas Cookies

Christmas is drawing near and time for baking is here! Oh, the good smells that will fill the house…and Mom drinks hot coco and we get treats! It is such a special time of the year. But… I must be very careful so that this does not happen.

20131221-042829.jpg
Oh, holy cannoli! I just can’t help myself! The dough – it’s so tempting. First, I restrain myself while Mom takes out the ingredients and mixes them.

20131221-043052.jpg
But the dough – it smells so good! And it is just the size of one of my balls. I cannot help myself. When Mom turns around, she finds this.

20131221-043243.jpg And a Newfie with a dough ball on the run! Oh, holy cannoli!! She always catches me!!!!

20131221-043409.jpg Mom put us in the bedroom to make the cookies this year. We could still smell them. And when they were done, we could see them but not taste them! Santa, I am still on your good list!! Here is a picture of our Christmas cannoli!

Oh Christmas Tree: The Dog’s Perspective

Mom and Dad are celebrating the season of Advent. The tree is up and their home is decorated. Dash, Jack, and I look at things just a bit differently. We have a dog’s perspective. Can you imagine how we feel about clove studded oranges on the tree? The smell is sooooo inviting and we want to investigate the properties and determine all about them. And what about those things called “ornaments”?

20131220-140354.jpg Do they taste as good as they look? They must because Mom keeps us as far from the tree as she does from our treats when we are not getting any!!
Here is what we think about the tree.

20131220-140553.jpg
Guess it is a good thing Mom is using a gate if she does not want us to taste the goodness of the oranges, ornaments, and the tree. After all, a hungry newfie girl just can’t resist the temptation sometimes, can she?
