Ruff Morning!

This was a Ruff Morning. It followed a Ruff Night. Mom battled lows from hypoglycemia and both Dash and I kept alerting her. In the morning, Mom was still too low to drive to volunteer at her usual time so she used Facebook to contact her collaborating teacher to let her know she would be late. Finally, around 8 AM Mom was stable and Dash got a nap. I closed my eyes and waited while Mom got ready to leave. Then she got my bandana. My tail began to wag. I was going to see my kids! This morning was looking up!
We drove to school and went to class. It was wonderful to see the kids and Ms. Ames. We got there in time for advisory AKA Paws class. The kids are so sweet. They love on me and hug Mom. One even discovered my blog! That made me feel like this:

Mom was really happy, too, but she has no tail to wag to feel like a peacock LOL!
So a morning that started out Ruff turned out to be fantastic!

Bring It, My Brother!

My brother has an awesome nose! That is how he “knows” that Mom’s blood sugar is low and he lets her know. Yesterday Mom was not feeling great but she did not yet realize her sugar was dropping. Dash scented the issue. First, he gave her “the stare”.

Mom often does not pay attention to subtle cues so he went for the bringsel.

Mom looked at Dash and at me. Then she said, “oh, you are such smart dogs! Let’s test!”
We both jumped up and and followed Mom to get her meter. Guess what? Dash was right…Mom was low and needed to correct her blood sugar. So she had some juice and soon felt better. We are very grateful for my brother who always brings it!

Double Dog Alert

Yesterday was Valentine’s Day – typically a day of sugar and chocolate! It is also a special day for Mom and Dad because it is is the anniversary of their first date! Mom decided to help dad by doing all his chores while he was exercising at the gym, as well as her own to surprise him. She should have stuck to chocolates and flowers … IMHO!
Mom raced through those chores! Dash and I knew she should pace herself. She did not stop to eat lunch or have a snack. Then she walked all of us, a total of three miles, and did her chores. By then Mom was having trouble figuring out what to do next and was walking around the house. Those are typical signals for her. Dash grabbed a brenzel and waved it. Mom did not notice. I blocked her and pawed her leg. Still Mom paid no attention. Then we decided to double team her. I got her with paws on both shoulders and stared her in the eyes. Dash whacked her in the leg with the brenzel. Slowly, Mom said, “Good. Dogs.Let’s. Check “.
The meter showed a 67-low. Mom gave us treats and grabbed a juice. We were not done yet. We wanted her to
sit. Dash is an expert at herding Mom
and he sent her to bed! Then he cuddled her with his head on her tummy and I warmed her feet. Job complete! Double Dog Alert!

24 Hours of Harmony

On Saturday Harmony the horse arrived to join us. She belongs to our niece, Morgan. Harmony is going to live in our barn until Morgan goes to college. Mom and Dad are really excited because Morgan is a great kid and they like riding with her. Harmony is supposed to be a very nice horse but we only met her for five minutes when she arrived so we are a little wary.

That evening Mom and Dad went to clean stalls so they could bring the pony and Harmony in. Dash and I watched from the sunroom windows. Dad finished his work first and returned to the house. He went to wash up when suddenly he all through the house he heard such a clatter, he began to wonder just what what was the matter. In ran Dash, leash in his mouth quickly followed by me. Our message was clear, there was something to see. Tails a awaggin and heads a bobbin, it was clear that something was up! Dad hurried to the door just in time to see…Mom calmly leading Harmony across the pasture to the barn.

Dash and I were sure that Mom should not be out there alone with a stranger, even if it is a well behaved female horse! LOL! Dad calmed us down and we watched her bring the pony to the barn. But we had seen that before. We sure were happy to see her when she came in the back door. How she giggled when Dad told her the story! Then she said, “You do communicate as well as humans,” and patted our heads. We do live in “harmony”.
