Pet Therapy at EKU

One of our favorite volunteering gigs is our college doggie de-stress day at EKU during dead week prior to exams! Teams from Pawsibilities Unleashed spend nine hours providing opportunities for students to pat, hang out and talk to “furry” therapists to release stress. Here are some pictures of our 2013 visit!

I am often surrounded by a crowd!

Some people just needed to lay on the floor with me.

This gentleman captured the historic moment he first touched a dog!

At the end of the day, I am very tired!

It was wonderful to visit with our friends at EKU!

Invasion of The Cable Guys!

This morning we expected our friends to return and help with flooring installation but they had a change in plans. Mom had already prepped the room by removing all the china and crystal and storing it the guest bedroom. After all that, we did regular things like eat and walks and playtime until — the Invasion of The Cable Guys!

Dash and I found it a wee bit stressful and Mom was totally overloaded.
There was only one thing to do after joyfully greeting the invaders (cable guys), we collapsed on Mom’s bed to let everyone know that it belonged to her and her alone. [just one problem with our little plan: it leaves no room for her on her bed]

The invasion was over quickly and then
we settled down to Animal Planet and our usual routine!

Panic Solution

Mom gets overwhelmed easily. In fact her stress level and anxiety can affect her overall health. You know, things like sleep, blood pressure and cortisol…
I think her reflection could look like this

Well, it might look like this if she were a puppy dog!
Mom does things to reduce her panic and anxiety. She knits. We are not much help with that. Dash chewed on a set her knitting needles about a month ago and unravelled her work. Now we are banished to our beds when she knits.

Mom does yoga. She thinks dogs should be mentally and physically healthy, too. I think dogs should have a space that is quite “zen”. Here is what I think should happen when Mom does yoga…

And, Mom reads to relax. Her latest book was written by Dutch Henry.

I prefer to read how to unleash my potential! LOL!

So, that’s how we solve panic around here… See ya after a good relaxing walk!

Anti- Stress Fairy

Auntie K is ill and Dad has a meeting today. What does that mean? The stress levels are running high around here! Mom and I want to be at school with the kids and we know they need stress relief. So do we- from Dad! LOL
We need a visit from the “Anti-stress fairy”!
What? You’ve never heard of her? She is cute as a button! We tried to find a picture and this was the one that captured her happy spirit!

20130115-071332.jpg When she visits, she leaves a little gift that is free for the taking. You just have to be open and receive it. If you don’t believe, it won’t come to you. ( Some people won’t see the following picture because they don’t have enough belief in fairies!).

Woofs and wags,

Bella

Newfie De-Stess

Many times a week, Mom is asked, “What does Bella do?”. She tells everyone what they want to hear: the part of my job that shows off my skills and helps directly with teaching. But if the person has time, she explains the important stuff!

The reason I can help with school work is because I am unconditionally loving and accepting. This type of relationship makes individuals feel safe, confident and willing to attempt tasks, try new things and ask questions. They will even ask for feedback and help. Students form relationships more quickly with adults who handle dogs because they trust the dogs. How important a role I play in education!
Just take a look at these pictures to see the love:

And here is another!

Even the staff want to steal a moment of time to get to know me, to pat my XFluffy fur, and to relax and de-stress with me for just five minutes!
