What we think of winter

We are going a little stir crazy at the Olson house. It is cold and yucky outside and has been this way forever. I can't wait for the months when the sun will be out and we can complain about how hot it is. This picture pretty much sums up what Beck thinks of being outside right now. This was an attempt to play in the snow. His face tells exactly what he thought of the whole experience.

End of Summer

It has been almost a month since I have last got on our blog. I think we have been sick most of the time.
About a month ago Beck and Cache both came down with hand, foot, mouth disease. Sounds pleasant doesn't it. Our case was fairly mild. Cache had some sores in his throat and Beck got some sores on his hands and feet. They both got over that just as Ben was going out of town. Ben went to his brother's wedding in Washington DC a few weeks ago. While he was gone my mom came down to help me out with the kids. She came down with a cold while she was here and then a few days later Beck and Cache got it. Cache, of course, got an ear infection (8th or 9th in 10 months). After a few days of having a cold, Beck started having a hard time breathing. We had two bad nights were he couldn't sleep very well because he was having trouble breathing. We took him to the doctor on Labor Day and they gave him a breathing treatment that helped right away. So now we have been giving him his breathing treatments at home and he is doing much better.
While Ben was gone my niece, Lexi, came down to stay with me and help me out for a few nights. She is such a good helper and is so good with both of the boys. They love her. It was fun to have her here. Our neighborhood boys also liked having her here. I think our neighbor Mackey has a little crush on her.
Cache has become a little person with his own little personality. He has a temper. He likes to take off his diaper and loves to feel anything that is soft. He has a teddy bear that he sleeps with at night and likes to give hugs. He also likes to lay his face on anything that is soft. He has also become a performing monkey. He will clap on cue when we say "Yeaaah Yeaaah" or if you say "no" he will shake his head. He is also saying more words/sounds. If I say "tickle, tickle, tickle, he makes a sound like "tkle, tkle, tkle". He will also make sounds like oooh, and awww when I am saying words like "wow" and "Oooooh"
We went to the zoo last Tuesday. Beck is in a phase where he is afraid of everything, or at least says he is. So he spent most of the time in the stroller saying he was scared of every animal we saw. He did like the carousel though, and we rode it three times. We had a fun day. We are trying to get in as much outside fun as we can before the dreaded cold weather comes. NOT looking forward to that.

Bear Lake

We got back from Bear Lake one week ago. We had such a fun, fun time. We went to Bear Lake with my mom's side of the family. We have gone up there every year since I've been born. I love it. This year was one of my favorites. It was exhausting having both boys up there, but it was also so enjoyable to watch them have such a good time. Ben was up there with us for three days and then had to go back to work. I definitely missed having him up there. He helps me a lot. I have some cousins that are pre-teen, teenage age and they were so nice to Beck and Cache. They played with Beck down at the beach and he loved having so many fun kids to play with. We were able to do a lot of fun things.

Mini-golfing Beck liked one hole that had a bridge and some rocks that he could jump off of and do "sweet moves". He did pretty good using the golf club, but found that it worked better and was more fun if he threw it in the holes.

Bear hunt - Down the beach from us was a marshy area with lots of big tall grasses. We went on a bear hunt

Jet-ski - Beck loved riding on the Jet-ski. I took him just past the buoy and we went back and forth along the beach at a speedy 13 mile an hour. He loved it. He was so cute, he sat up front with his hands on the handles and helped me push the gas. As we were riding along he was singing to himself. I couldn't tell what song it was, but it was cute.

Cache - He is a water baby. He loved being in the water. He would crawl through the water and not mind at all if he got wet or splashed in the face. I had to watch him close because he wasn't afraid to put his face in and liked to try to crawl out as far into the lake as I would let him. He and Beck are complete opposites in this area.

Fountains and a drumstick

We have had a fun week. On Tuesday we went down to Salt Lake to play in the fountains at the Gateway. Beck isn't much of a water lover, so I was interested to see how he would like it. We went there with my Mom. It was no surprise that Beck wasn't at all interested in getting wet. He just wanted to sit in the stroller and watch all that was going on. He watched with a strange look on his face. I'm sure he was wondering why all these kids were enjoying getting splashed in the face. We will have to see how he enjoys Bear Lake. Cache likes the water, but I think he was too hot to enjoy playing in it. We were able to see my dad and brother, and ran in to Brent and Hillary. Small world. We got lemonade and ice cream and then went to Nano's house. Beck found a knife sharpener at my mom's house and thought it was a cool sword. He played with that most of the rest of the night. He wasn't very happy to have to leave it behind.

On Saturday night we went to the park and had a picnic with some chicken. We gave Beck a drumstick to eat. He took the drumstick and then ran off to play. He went down the slides, up the stairs, across the bridge - all while munching on his drum stick. He quite enjoyed himself. When he came back to our blanket he had eaten the drumstick like a sucker. He had eaten everything off the top (cartilage and all) and left all the meat on the sides. I'd never seen a drumstick look like that before. He ate what was left on that one and then took the other one. He went back to the playground to happily eat his drumstick.

Beck is getting to have a big imagination. He came with me to the church the other day while I had to make copies. He brought a dinosaur and a hot dog riding a skateboard. He had the best time playing with them. They had lots of adventures while I was making my copies. I was having fun listening to his little mind and listening to the story that was going on in his head.
