House Of Mirrors
HOUSE OF MIRRORS
What if “self”
And “other”
Are no more
Than preprogrammed
Constructs?
And where
Is this pasture
Within which
Less than contentedly
We graze?
And who believes
They conjure
These constructs?
And who
Did the programming?
Don’t recall
School
Or church
Ever covering
Such trivia.
Newborn
NEWBORN
She knows nothing
She doesn’t know that
She knows without knowing
Best not to tell her that though
It would take years and years
For her to recover her grace
Effortless effortlessness
No need for knowing
Unknown knowing
Hands Free And Spinning
HANDS FREE AND SPINNING
Once we recognise
That we have
No reliable knowledge
Of our future
Beyond conjecture
Nor any absolute control of it
We can only be left with uncertainty.
Of course it is more comfortable
Not to dwell on these truths too much though.
Limbo II
LIMBO II
Swing ‘twixt hope and fear
Unending uncertainty
Our sole companion
Sweating like limbo dancers
Watching the lowering pole
The Get-together
THE GET-TOGETHER
Meet your family.
Here is your brother Andyet;
Your sister Maybe.
Your cousin Alltheanswers’s
Not here yet. Her plane’s delayed.
Gambolling Gamblers
GAMBOLLING GAMBLERS
Life a deck of cards
Unsure no one marked the cards
We shuffle and deal
Shysters and diehards
Trampled, embittered and scarred
Still we share the meal
The Bird And The Wanderer (A Shadorma)
THE BIRD AND THE WANDERER (A Shadorma)
Hark that bird
Perched for a moment
Serenade
Could it be
Me he sweetly addresses?
Will he call once more?
Hold my breath
Release it again
Sigh, walk on
Down the path
Stride after stride unfolding
An unsure future
Overreaching Oneself
OVERREACHING ONESELF
“I” think “I” know, yet
It’s mostly conjecture and
Imagination
So I tried out “We” then “You”
But then “I” says much the same
Vincent’s Brother’s Brother
VINCENT’S BROTHER’S BROTHER
Are you also one
I wonder who are unknown
Until they are gone?
