Feeling Famous

The other day we were in DC and ran across this somewhat familiar looking car...

What car is that you ask? Well its Bumblebee of course! Yes sir, they were filming Transformers 3 right in front of the Capitol building and we got to see it all!I am not sure what Transformer this truck is, but you can see the Transformer's signal on the tail gate! It was a HUGE truck!

This is one of the action shots they were doing. The Capitol is right behind me and the cars would zoom around the corner. It was only about 10 secs but they did this 5 or 6 times. Morgan and I were being very sneaky and watching all of this behind a bush :)

Another shot of the Capitol with Optimus Prime and Bumblebee and another car...I am going to have to watch the movies again to remember the names.

So if any of you go to Transformers 3 coming to theaters later next year, be sure to watch for this scene and perhaps you will see Morgan's white legs sticking out from behind a bush :)

After this exciting event we went to the Library of Congress, another famous spot that has appeared in movies such as National Treasure 2 and books such as Dan Brown's "The Lost Symbol."

This is the main reading room and you have to have a library card to go in there. However, we went on a lucky day when it was open to all public. The architecture was amazing and the ceiling and marble pillars were just spectacular.

Halloween

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays! Before I got married Halloween was never one that I paid any attention to. Since being married it is MUCH more fun as you get to dress up together, decorate your apartment and have Halloween parties with friends.

Since I have recently been on a sewing kick I decided it would be fun to make our costumes this year. I decided that Mr & Mrs Potato head couldn't be too hard to make so that is what we were for Halloween this year. Towards the end I ran out of time so we had to stuff them the best we could using balloons- we were pretty lumpy :) In the back I made a little pouch and all the parts were stuck on by Velcro so you could take them off and put them in the pouch.

Ward trunk-or-treat party

Yesterday, we went with our friends the Jackson's to Cox's Farms. It's pretty much a big huge pumpkin carnival with animals, slides, corn mazes, hay rides, fresh apple cider, and lots of pumpkins. We had a really great time being away from the city and enjoying the autumn atmosphere.

Of course the fact that it was COX Farms made it even more special for us :)

That is a BIG pumpkin!

After the truck-or-treat, we went to the Jackson's house and carved pumpkins. Ours turned out pretty cool but the picture is pretty fuzzy.

We had a very fun Halloween filled day!

Fall is finally here!

Sometimes I am astonished at the pictures that turn out when I push that little button on top of the camera! I saw these red leaves with the Capitol building behind and couldn't pass up the moment to snap a picture. The leaves are slowly starting to change back here and I love it; Fall is one of my favorite times of the year!

A new found hobby

My wonderful friend Mandi Jackson is a fabulous sewer and has encouraged me to try my hand at sewing with her. So far I have only made baby quilts, but I have had lots of fun and learned lots of things about sewing.

Here is the first quilt I made; I am still working on getting the binding done but I thought it turned out really well and I LOVE the fabric- thanks Mandi

This next quilt was meant to be a gift for my cousin, it took me about 12 hours to do mostly because I am ditzy and kept sewing the squares the wrong way, etc... I finally finished it the weekend she was supposed to have the baby and it looked great! Then I decided that I would pre-wash and dry it for her. Well the fabric didn't do too well in the dryer and it came out looking absolutely awful. I might have cried a little bit at all my hard work being ruined and then Morgan suggested a fantastic idea....

1st quilt for my cousin

We went to the store and got new fabric and spent the rest of the night watching all three Lord of the Rings and making a new quilt. Morgan cut the fabric and pinned while I sewed everything together. We made one good quilting team! The quilt took us about 6 hours and now is really from both of us. We had a really good time making this quilt together; thanks Morg for staying up all night with me!

2nd quilt for my cousin- from MORGAN and I

I now know how to make baby quilts and I have everything I need except a sewing machine- hopefully Santa gets that for me this year :)

My next sewing project is in the works...our Halloween costume!! Stay tuned to see what we are going to be.

Something new, something blue

Morgan and I have been having car issues lately. We have had an Oldsmobile Aurora for the past few years and it was an awesome car until about six months ago. We could tell the car was developing a transmission issue so we took it in to have it checked and it was going to be $4,000 to get it fixed! When your car is only worth $1,000 it is hard to put another $4,000 into it. We decided we would just drive it until it died, hoping that time was still at least a year or two away. As the car progressively got worse we decided to start looking for something else just in case it died. One Saturday about three weeks ago we were driving between dealerships and were stopped by a red light -- when the light turned green, Morgan pressed on the gas and the car didn't go forward. He changed gears, tried again, no luck. He shut the car off, turned it back on, and it moved again! However, we only got to the next stop light and it did the same thing again. At that point we decided we had better move up our time line a little on changing cars! That same day we got a HONDA CIVIC!

It is not as fancy inside as our Oldsmobile, but I'm sure the engine is better. It been nice not having leather and having a smaller car. Much easier to park and drive and it's supposed to get up to 40mpg on the highway! Hopefully it will go forever.
