Measuring Every Word

From Proverbs 16:22:  “Wisdom is a fountain of life to one who has it, but folly is the punishment of fools.”

Wisdom’s fountain of life

Vision of Christ unblurred

Blessing days without strife

Measuring every word

Wisdom’s voice fills each mind

Left hand joins truth of right

Maturing faith aligned

Cascading from Christ’s light

Wisdom’s appetite knows

Joy in Christ, never cease

Sowing hope’s seeds, trust flows

Reaping from fields of peace

Wisdom’s patience merging

Just as Father hath planned

Witnessing strength surging

Reaching out from Christ’s hand

Wisdom’s honest sweetness

Christ transforms man’s blindness

Filling life’s completeness

Building grace of kindness

From Proverbs 16:24:  “Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.”

Oswald Chambers Quote

If our common sense decisions are not God’s order, He will press them and check; then we must be quiet and wait for the direction of His presence.

From Isaiah 40:31:  “But those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

Oswald Chambers (1874-1917) was a Scottish evangelist and Christian teacher.  Following his death from an illness while in Egypt during World War I, his wife took on the task of transcribing the detailed notes she had written from his lectures and sermons.  Gertrude Hobbs Chambers’ efforts resulted in the publication in 1924 of MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST.  I frequently read from this devotional, and it has greatly deepened my faith and understanding of God’s Word.

Charles Stanley Quote

When you pray in Jesus’ name, God will transform your prayer life by turning uncertainty into confidence and confusion into the wisdom to know His will.

From Romans 8:26-27:  “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with groanings too deep for words.  And God, who searches hearts, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”

Charles Stanley (1932-2023) was an American pastor and Christian writer.  He was dedicated to leading a teaching ministry.

Unwavering Journey

From Psalm 3:3-4:  “But you, O Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, and the one who lifts up my head.  I cry aloud to the Lord, and He answers me from His holy hill.”

From Acts 13:23-25:  “Of this man’s posterity God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, as He promised; before His coming John had already proclaimed a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.  And as John was finishing his work, he said, ‘What do you suppose that I am?  I am not He.  No, but One is coming after me; I am not worthy to untie the strap of the sandals on His feet.’”

From John 5:20-21:  “The Father loves the Son and shows Him all that He Himself is doing, and He will show Him greater works than these, so that you will be astonished.  Indeed, just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whomever He wishes.”

Serenity Prayer (written by Reinhold Neibuhr)

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

From Philippians 4:6-7:  “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Reinhold Neibuhr (1892-1971) was an American theologian as well as a commentator on public affairs.  He was a professor at Union Theological Seminary for over 30 years.

William James Quotes

The greatest use of a life is to spend it for something that will outlast it.

The art of being wise is the art of knowing what to overlook.

Williams James (1842-1910) was an American psychologist and philosopher.  He has often been referred to as the “father of American psychology.”

John Locke Quote

The visible mark of extraordinary wisdom and power appear so plainly in all the works of creation.

From Psalm 19:1-2:  “The heavens are telling the glory of God, and the firmament proclaims His handiwork.  Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge.”

John Locke (1632-1704) was an English philosopher and writer.
